This was my favorite store on block island. First, the staff were great. She was so nice. We had a…read moregreat conversation and she was willing to help find items or answer any questions I had. The pricing varies which was great for all shoppers. It wasn't all super expensive. The sold so many different items. Things from housewares, pillows, bags, jewelry, trinkets, frames and so much more. Their location is just off the Ferry. You see it when you are on the street. So it's a great location. Overall this is such a cute tiny store that packs a good about in it.

But that's all right, the wear just adds character to it. The first thing you notice is that it's small and very cramped. No AC in this place and on hot days it definitely gets stuffy. The inside has an old and exotic smell to it but combined with the salt air makes for a very pleasant experience. There isn't really enough room inside the small building so the stuff inside frequently overflows onto the street. The merchandise at The Glass Onion is eclectic to say the least. Different items and curiosities from around the world and from local Rhode Island artists and craft people. The inventory is always changing and every time you visit it is a new experience with cool clothes, shoes, jewelry, rugs, books, bags, soaps, baskets and strange and unique art all stuffed into the tiny edifice. The Glass Onion is definitely a store that marches to a different drummer. No attempt at luring people inside with pretty signs or slogans and just getting into the store can be a challenge at times. But once inside a unique adventure awaits. The Glass Onion is just a shack, but a very, very cool shack.

Hands down, they have the absolute rudest woman running that store. Perhaps she's the owner, I am…read morenot sure. One thing I am sure of is that she's needs an attitude adjustment. I was walking around town and popped into her shop. I had my dog with me. She is only 25lbs and extremely well-behaved. She is also a certified support animal and legally, is allowed to go anywhere with me. Block has always been an extremely dog-friendly place and I've been coming here every summer for over 20 years. Nowhere did I see a sign that says dogs aren't allowed in the shop. I usually ask first anyway but I couldn't differentiate between employees and customers when I entered. She came up to me and in a very rude tone, told me "no dogs allowed." I immediately apologized and went to leave like a respectful and polite person would. Then she made a snarky comment "you can't just bring dogs anywhere." First of all, I am aware of that, thanks. I could have mentioned that she's a support animal but I didn't even bother because of the obnoxious tone this woman used with me. There's no world where I would ever give her a penny of my hard-earned money at this point. You work in a customer service based industry - in a seasonal resort town no less. Here's a tip, BE KIND! Nobody needs your basic Joanna Gaines nautical decor that badly anyway.

Great shop, lots of colorful, beautiful items and beachy colored decor for the home (picture…read moreframes, pillows, spoon holders). Items that are just nice for the home and not just for block island. Jewelry looks really nice but didn't buy any. Friend got a great tablecloth that was flowery and beautiful. Clothes in the back too- all look feminine and very flowing.
