SEW IT ALL in groton is who you are probably looking for....Rear entrance of building, 89 Plaza Court, Groton, CT When I walked in, the owner/seamstress was on the phone with another customer, loudly telling them they should be ashamed for waiting so long to ask for help and that nobody would be able to help them. After hanging up, she greeted me with, "What do you want?" I explained that I needed a bridesmaid dress altered by mid-June. She told me to go put the dress on, then immediately criticized me for bringing it in a garment bag instead of on a hanger. She commented that I had probably ruined it and hoped it wasn't wrinkled. Once I tried the dress on, I explained that it needed to be let out slightly. Instead of discussing whether that was possible, she immediately began criticizing me for waiting too long and made comments that felt shaming and dismissive. The interaction became particularly upsetting when the discussion turned to my body and the fit of the dress. Rather than offering solutions or even a professional explanation of the limitations, I was essentially told she couldn't help me and was shown the door. I understand that not every alteration can be done, especially on a tight timeline. What I do not understand is treating customers with contempt for asking. People seeking alterations--especially for weddings and formal events--are often already feeling vulnerable about their appearance. A little professionalism and kindness would have gone a long way. I left feeling embarrassed, judged, and unwelcome.

She was really helpful in getting me to flesh out what I liked/ didn't like about certain dresses, and helping me trust my instincts. Eventually I found one that made me glow just from putting it on, and she helped me affirm that I had found the one! The staff at Melissa's is super friendly, helpful, organized and on-point. No misplaced orders and dresses always delivered in a timely fashion. They're all more than willing to help and offer suggestions with fittings, etc. They made me feel like a princess while trying on bridesmaids dresses, so I can only imagine how great they make the brides feel when they're trying on wedding gowns. At the same time, Melissa and her crew were very frank with me, and if something didn't look good, they told me so (nicely, of course). I had stopped by briefly a week earlier to check out the selection and let her know what kind of gown I need. When I came in to start my search, she had already put a few dresses aside for me that fit my needs. I really like that she let me look as much as I wanted without bothering me or looking over my shoulder, since I like to do my own thing when I'm shopping. While I tried on gowns, she gave me good honest opinions but was not pushy. Everything felt easy and fun, and Melissa was able to give me a good idea of how in-depth the alterations would be on a given gown. After trying on many gowns I settled on a gorgeous fitted number that is everything I wanted! Melissa could see my positve reaction, and she and her associate both agreed that it was the best one I'd tried. Although the dress is reasonably priced, she let me make payments on it, which works for me since I'm a girl on a budget. I would recommend Melissa's to anyone in need of a dress for any occasion (she carries everything from cute cocktail dresses to fabulous bridal fare). They also have a seamstress on-site to carry out all alterations and they take appointments. Based on my experience, I would say that Melissa's is an asset to the community.
