Turns out the nail was too short to puncture the tire and they said all was good asked them what was the charge and they said nothing you all good. My husband has used this shop for repairs on an older second car we recently bought. We normally do our own repairs however there are things that require equipment or space we don't have. They are located in industrial area of Kapolei. They always seem to be busy, yet they have got us in to look at our car to order parts in advance if needed. Once on calendar they have always finished in the time/day promised. They have always charged a reasonable price and not suggested work that was not needed. RAF and his team are the best in the business. I've taken at least 4 of my vehicles to RAFs over the past 5+ years and he's provided quality straight forward service each time. Before and during every service, him and/or his front end Manager always took the time to explain to me what they were going to do or were doing. Very straightforward while still friendly and detailed in their explanations. He's even given me accurate and straight forward advice when i had vehicle issues that were better served elsewhere. Going into each of those repairs i went in to the other specialized repair shops (BMW/MINI specialized repair needs, Transmission repair, etc.) with a lot more confidence and the details i needed to make informed and costly decisions that were needed. The peace of mind RAF provided each time was well worth the minimal inspection charge (less than half of other shops inspection fees btw). I've had multiple cars serviced at RAF's over the years and it's always fast, reasonably priced, and excellent customer service.

So I took a car my cousin gave to me to RAF's to check on some issues like the AC and some other issues I thought it had. What he did was gave it a complete check out and had a list of things that needed immediate attention and a list of other not so immediate things. He also gave me his opinion on what he thought based on what my plans were for the car. Well I didn't have any work done and ended up donating the car, but I really valued his clear unvarnished opinion. He didn't try to up sell me, he didn't even get close to trying to talk me into anything that would've made him money. Awesome! Even though I did pay for the evaluation it was the best money I spent because I got 2 things out of this. Another positive experience at RAF's. My 20 year old van with 200,090 miles on it was running rough. Got a computer scan which showed various issues including fuel injectors. Make a long story short I brought it to RAF's and was taken right in after discussing possible issues and which way to proceed. The problem was either a bad plug and/or coil. They did the work needed for a reasonable price especially taking me in immediately. It runs fine now. Brought it in about 9 am and was home by 10:30! We made the Move to Makakilo from Kalihi about 8 years ago, and believe it or not, We were still driving to town for our cars regular maintenance. After being ripped off in the past by other "mechanic shops" it's hard to trust any of them. I wish Yelp was around back then so I can leave a review or avoided them. Saw a lot of good reviews, and thought I'd give this place a try. I met the owner, Raf, who is a very nice gentleman. He was upfront about his prices and types of services he can offer. I didn't know much about my car, but he worked with whatever information I could provide to him. My AC was not working properly, and performed a diagnostic that revealed I had a coolant leak. He didn't charge more than what was quoted, and informed me no repairs would be done until he received consent from me. I felt very comfortable with our interactions. I did not feel like he was trying to pressure me with any unwanted/unneeded repairs. He seemed like a honest, genuine person who was looking out for my best interest. Rafs is tucked into the back of the smaller businesses behind the Kapolei Costco. It took a couple tries to get a hold of him but when I finally did he was very welcoming and flexible. I dropped off my car Monday morning assuming he would take a while (my own experience with lex brodies) but I got a call right when I had gotten home (less than an hour since I had dropped it off) and he told me there was nothing wrong with my car but the tire pressure was off. silly me read the symbol on my dash wrong. What was really nice was he double checked everything to make sure it was just the tire pressure and I was able to come pick it up whenever. Now I see why Raf's has 5!! I brought in my hubby's Mustang for the A/C not working properly. Raf was seated at the front desk and was very informative about what he was going to do to check the A/C issue. Will was the auto tech to check the vehicle and came in to ask a few questions in reference to the vehicle, he explained what the codes were and what he needed to do to fix the issue. Hands down, best automotive shop I have been to in the 4.5 years I have lived on Oahu. My Jeep had an oil leak in late December 18 and I took it to two seperate mechanics and both gave me an incorrect diagnoses. I took it to Raf, he fit me in to the schedule, didn't charge me to look at the car, found the problem, ordered the part and fixed it in a day! I called one of the Jeep dealerships on island and they told me they had no space on their schedule until 21 Jan 19! Raf is responsive, works hard, does great work, and charges a fair price. I was recommended the shop by someone who said that their dad knew the guy that worked there, David is his name, nice guy. I waited 2 weeks for my appointment. I already knew what was wrong with the car I just needed a confirmation that the resistor needed to be changed I didn't have the specific $40 tool to do it. Takes maybe 20 minutes to test it tops. Then he asked if there was anything else I wanted them to take a look at( ask as if it was just something to take a peek at nothing that he was going to charge me for) not once did he tell me what the charge for anything was going to be or if he was going to charge me anything at all. I get the car back after 10 hours. All incorrect diagnostics except the AC diagnostic that I already gave him( no proof he actually even tested it). The window he checked out he left the window pieces all over the backseat of my car didn't even put it back together. And the taillight diagnostic he gave me was completely wrong and still need to figure out what's wrong with it. Won't return my calls won't take any of my calls absolute worst experience at a mechanic I've had on island i've had more professional experiences from uncles on North Shore just trying to help out. read more

I thought Raf's Automotive was a credible place to go to for your car repairs and needs, but I was wrong. I heard good reviews about this place so I decided to go here to replace my pillow ball bearing. I paid a hefty price to replace something small for the problem to come back because they did a half ass the job. I called Raf's Automotive if there was some type of warranty because the problem came back within few months, but they could not accommodate it. The clunking got worst to the point where i went through a different shop to repair my pillow ball bearing, AGAIN. I went to a different shop & they were able to replace my pillow ball bearing CORRECTLY. They explained to me why the clunking came back. Showed me the work from the previous place that replaced my pillow ball bearing. The bolts was strip and was not tightened enough, and not lube correctly. This business price gouge you, when you can go somewhere else for a reasonable and fair price. I over payed, wasted my time and money. Would not trust this place. read more

I can't ever complain or say anything bad about this place. Brought my car here the first time for an oil change since my previous mechanic is way too far now. Their hours are awesome for me! I want to add right away that they are always friendly, fast, and efficient in their work. I brought my car in again for a routine oil change and my reservoir cap was broken! They drove to acura for the part on lunch and called me to come back so they could change it out. The part itself was $6, but the fact that they had no hesitation in getting the part and fixing the problem (instead of brushing it off and just doing the oil change) is the kind of service you do not see everywhere. Recently, for another oil change, a lady was in the office complaining about Raf's recommendation for the higher priced oil change. He refused to put the lower engine oil, with the intentions of the year/model of the car in mind. The customer was fine after the explanation, but this is another great example of the type of people running this business! He was very professional, and sincere. The reason I did not give 5 stars is the guy that usually works the front doesn't seem to ever answer the phone. His day off is Thursday, and I promise, dude will not pick up the phone if you call on Wednesday. The only time the phone has ever been answered for me is by Raf himself. Nice place, took my car in because my car was reviving high and my car rolls when I shift from park to drive etc ALSO Bc i just had a mobile mechanic guy named Ika install my brakes incorrectly to have them look at my brakes Bc a squeak. Told them exactly why it's squeaking, Bc some metal was leaning on the shim. Took my car in 8 am on the dot. Didn't receive one phone call the whole day as for an update on the car. It's around 2pm and I'm calling the shop multiple times with no answer. I get a call at 4 pm letting me know they had a transmission code come up and they can't fix that there n also they took off all the tires to look at my brakes n didn't see anything. Trying to give me some excuse that the squeaking was coming from anywhere blah blah, Bc they didn't hear it. I was upset at this point Bc you didn't tell me upfront that you can't do transmission work here KNOWING that my issues sounded like a transmission problem. I told the main guy I have a video of my tire squeaking and he said to bring it in. I come in the office, the front haole guy tells me the same thing the guy said over the phone. I let him know the main guy said to show the video, I did and he barely bothered to listen giving me the same excuse it could be coming from anywhere. I proceed to say well the last mechanic (Ika) adjusted one side and stated it was a metal leaning against a shim for the squeak on the right, now my left side is doing the same thing. He tries to sway me saying my transmission problem is the main issue (WHICH I ALREADY KNOW THAT) and he wouldn't worry about that. So i asked straight up, so your saying there was no metal leaning on my shim he says in a quick trying to gloss over way " yeah we could see a metal leaning against the shim but your main issue here is your transmission". So you folks lied and didn't address the simple fix it was. I TOLD THEM I WAS WILLING TO PAY BC THEY WERE BRAND NEW BRAKE PARTS BEFORE THEY TOOK MY CAR IN. I know a transmission problem is the worst and can cause 4K of work. I was already planning on getting that fixed ! Wasted my damn time coming here, and they think they way the situation was handled was okay Bc they didn't charge me. BRUH that wasn't the problem, I'm trying to fix my car not let issues sit there. Bah humbug. Would of have this place more stars they gave me a call earlier and frickn let me know they can't do trans work at the beginning ! read more
