I'm a little embarrassed to write this review, as Rafael did the work on my house in June of 2022 and I'm only writing this review now. BUT, alas, here I am. 5 stars, but you knew that already, given the non-stop 5 star reviews that he has. And let me tell you, he earns every single one of those 5 stars in every single 5 star review, including this 5 star review. Rafael is professional, meticulous, friendly, respectful, and really does go above and beyond. It's great when you find someone that is a masterclass of their craft. It's good when you find someone that is competitively priced. It's nice when you find someone that genuinely CARES about their clientele and want their clientele to be 110% satisfied. It's AMAZING when you find a combination of all three. Seriously, you need tile work? Please, don't look anymore. You won't get better than Rafael. Book him. Let me save you some time and give you the low down in my first paragraph of this review. If you are looking for a tile contractor that you can trust with your dream tile project, look no further, and contact Rafael! Looking for a highly skilled craftsman in the tile trade, someone that takes the time to listen to your thoughts on your dream tile project and then bring them to fruition? Believe me, you need to stop reading right now and call Rafael! Read further for a more detailed review, but be forewarned, it's a long one! Now that you have set up a meeting with Rafael to discuss your tile project, read further to see why I recommend him so highly! Believe it or not my initial meeting with Rafael left me somewhat disappointed. Not with Rafael himself, but with the realization that my project as I initially dreamed up, would not be able to be completed as easily and as timely as I had thought. Rafael spent a good amount of time on our first meeting. Listening to my ideas of what we wanted, which was a new tile entry and a feature tile wall. Due to some construction issues of my home's entryway, and the large 48"x48" large format tile that we wanted to have installed there, Rafael was very upfront with me and said that he would unfortunately have to pass on our project. Even though he felt that he could not complete my project as I had imagined, he continued to take measurements of the entryway and tile wall area so he could pass along the measurements to other possible contractors/contacts that he knew and possibly refer me to. I know what you are thinking....he did what? Yes, he did continue to ask about our project and continued with taking measurements! Who would do that once they determined that they were going to defer the project to possibly another contractor? That right there should give you a picture of what type of person Rafael is! I thanked Rafael for the time he took with me (he spent over an hour with me this day) listening to what I wanted and for being so upfront with me. He said he would email me with some possible contractors/contacts that could help me. I got an email a few days later with an explanation that he was unable to find any of his contacts that would be able to help with my project, but gave me a few recommendations where I might try looking to find a business who could help. Fast forward, days later, I asked Rafael to come back and discuss an alternative project vision. Rafael came and spent over an hour discussing a repair of the entryway tile area, a new fireplace surround and also the feature wall tile. Before he left that day, Rafael took off some floor tile so another contractor who was going to do our wood flooring project could start. He volunteered to do this without us contracting with him, we were just voicing our concerns, and he said that he could remove the tiles right then and there! Again, who does that? This guy Rafael is some kind of a special person! Let me tell you, it was then and there that we decided that we wanted Rafael to do our project, and we are so happy that he did! I will end my review now. Sorry it was so long, but I just wanted to convey just how awesome of a person Rafael truly is. Rafael is a true craftsman, striving for perfection and gives his all to create your vision. He will not stop until he is satisfied and you are satisfied with the outcome. He is a good communicator and really listens to you and is very up- front with details on what may or may not be possible. At the conclusion of our project, I felt that we had really bonded. Rafael is a genuinely nice person, hard working, very knowledgeable, detailed, and truly cares about his work and his clientele. He is one of a kind, an amazing person! My wife and I are giving our old Laundry room a face lift and had this beautiful hex-tile that we wanted installed on the floor. While we enjoy doing are share of DIY-work, we also know when it's time to call a pro... and with this hex-tile, it was time to call a pro. From start to finish, Rafael was a true professional. Rafael is everything you hope you can find in someone you're letting into your house. Especially when you want that someone to promptly tear your house apart right after . He came down first for a free and quick estimate. Friendly, knows his stuff and will try to ballpark an estimate same day, depending on the job I'm sure. In my case I had a block of 9+ kitchen tiles that had cracked grout, and general deformation/detachment. Probably on the easier end of this type of work. He explained an overview of the work itself, how he'll approach the problem and what the best and worst case scenario would cost me. With how bad my tiles were, it was a situation where you don't know until you start ripping them out. Here those numbers were $250 or $500 depending on how many tiles were needed to tear out and replace to resolve the issue, and of course the time involved in those scenarios. I was on board for that and we set a date about a week later. One aspect I greatly appreciated was Rafael searches out an appropriate matching tile and checked in with me before ordering them. Explaining any aspects of the tiles I may have questions of. Fast forward to the day of, and work was under way. Turns out the people who built the floor used bad materials. Anyway as you'll see in the photos he ripped up about 12 tiles ultimately, replaced all of them. Everything was laid down perfect this time. And he takes his time to make sure it's done right, and with as many passes over as is needed to do it right. All the while he'll explain the entire process to you if you'd like to know. But of course in my case, in a way I can actually understand. I always find it interesting to learn about a field you're unfamiliar with so it's appreciated. He finished up that same day and I can report my floor is looking great. In fact too great because it's so clean the rest of my floor shows how dirty it truly is now . But you can bet I'll be sure to fix that issue with the proper amount of neglect and dust shortly Total came out to $250 for labor and about $20 for the replacement tiles and materials. Rafael did a fantastic job on my kitchen backsplash tiles in our recent kitchen remodel. The tiles were large hexagonal shapes and the project was challenging but his experience really paid off. He made some impressive cuts in the tiles for the light switches. Rafael is super nice and very good communicator. He recently moved to Sacramento from LA. His father was a tile layer for 40 years in LA, then Rafael learned the trade from his father and took over his father's business and ran it for the past 14 years. He recently moved to Sacramento to get out of the traffic in LA. I think he made a good call and I know he will be very successful here. Rafeal is a a very helpful subject matter expert. I called him about a weird job, the holes in my porcelain sink needed to be enlarged to allow for installation of a faucet. I didn't really know who to ask fo this job. When I called, he took the time to instruct me on what to do and sent me a link for a drill bit I could purchase at Harbor Freight so I could do it myself. It saved me a lot of trouble and money! Rafael installed mosaic tile flooring in my bathroom and I couldn't be happier with the result. I had contacted a few different people but Rafael was the most responsive, professional, and informative person I had discussed my project with. He was able to come by for an estimate quickly and I could tell he was a perfectionist by the way he explained everything so greatly in detail. I had a couple options since he was working with an uneven concrete base, and I chose the cheaper option of installing over the curve of the floor instead of leveling it completely beforehand. I used small hexagon tiles so I was slightly worried it wouldn't be *perfect* (I'm super picky), but it came out better beyond my expectations. I am very impressed with how knowledgeable and meticulous Raphael is. We needed to repair a few tiles around a shower door. After a few unsuccessful attempts with other tile installers we where prepared to redo the entire area.
