The Radio City Tower is not for the faint hearted. As you go up in the lift, your ears may pop, and…read moredespite it being a solid structure it can occasionally feel like it's wobbling when it gets really windy. I was 'lucky' enough to do the traffic and travel on Radio City when I was about 16, and I use inverted commas because no teenage girl should be subjected to the male chauvinists who work there. This was back in the days of Kev Seed doing the morning radio followed by Irish Joe, and thankfully I was smart enough NOT to sit on his knee when he invited me to... Whilst working in the tower was a great experience (despite having to be there at something ridiculous like 5am) these sad old leches could have really ruined the experience for someone less wily than myself. I managed to unleash my sharp tongue and come up with nifty retorts to all their insinuations, which only served to endear me more to them, but hey, they extended my airtime! The tower also includes the Magic 1548 peeps and possibly Juice FM too, and I'd love another opportunity to go back up there and do radio again. The views from the tower are great and I think I'm right in saying it was used two years ago in some sort of fireman competition where they had to run up all the steps and back down again carrying all their gear. People have doubtlessly abseiled off it too, but for my part, I'd rather be on the radio or watching the firemen!! I guess some of Kev's perviness rubbed off on me after all...

I religiously listen to Radio City every morning on my way to work, I specifically tune in to…read morelisten to 'The Village Idiot' - the only show where the losers stays on. It's a brilliant idea, basically the DJ Rossie and his broadcast assistant take the pee out of people too thick to answer simple questions. If you win, you get a prize, if not, phone back the next morning to be ridiculed again. Genius. Anyway, to the music - slightly annoying sometimes as the same song list can be repeated a few times in the day but there is a variety of genres ranging from what is in the chart to the new up and coming bands in Liverpool. The actual building is a huge cylindrical tower, which used to have a revolving restaurant at the top - now utilised as the radio station. The tower is an iconic feature in Liverpool City Centre and can be seen for miles.

Key103 is a quality radio station. Cool is what its not, but damn fun is what it is. Located on…read moreCastle Quay between Deansgate and Castlefield, Key103 is linked to MagicFM, whose Manchester branch is right next door. As well as classic r'n'b tunes and all the latest chart hits, Key103 also specialize in football. As they pride themselves on being Manchester's real local radio station, they always air both the Manchester United and the Manchester City games. They do this through their link with Magic, by airing one game on each channel, if they're playing at the same time. Located in a picturesque setting on the canal just across a bridge from the famous Dukes92 and BarCa, Key103 base is also worth a visit. Its next to a nice bar, called Lava, which is lesser known but in my opinion better than Dukes on a rainy day.

Key 103 is almost exactly like Real Radio. It's poppy, it's loud, it's happy and it's Real's worst…read moreenemy in the competition stakes. Come on, GMG and Bauer hate each other, we media-savvy geeks all know this. It runs so deep that radio jobhunters even leave Bauer and GMG stations anonymous on their CVs. I know this. Talk about going over to the dark side... Formerly Piccadilly Radio, it was born in 1974 and became the Key we know in 1988. It broadcasts in Manchester but covers pretty much the entire North West, as I found out on my coach trip from Liverpool Airport to Manchester. You'll get what's in the charts, that's for sure, with the occasional tacky classic thrown in for good measure. Not what I'd personally choose to tune into, but hey, if everybody looked the same, we'd all get tired of looking at each other. Wait, that doesn't quite work...
