The Radio City Tower is not for the faint hearted. As you go up in the lift, your ears may pop, and…read moredespite it being a solid structure it can occasionally feel like it's wobbling when it gets really windy. I was 'lucky' enough to do the traffic and travel on Radio City when I was about 16, and I use inverted commas because no teenage girl should be subjected to the male chauvinists who work there. This was back in the days of Kev Seed doing the morning radio followed by Irish Joe, and thankfully I was smart enough NOT to sit on his knee when he invited me to... Whilst working in the tower was a great experience (despite having to be there at something ridiculous like 5am) these sad old leches could have really ruined the experience for someone less wily than myself. I managed to unleash my sharp tongue and come up with nifty retorts to all their insinuations, which only served to endear me more to them, but hey, they extended my airtime! The tower also includes the Magic 1548 peeps and possibly Juice FM too, and I'd love another opportunity to go back up there and do radio again. The views from the tower are great and I think I'm right in saying it was used two years ago in some sort of fireman competition where they had to run up all the steps and back down again carrying all their gear. People have doubtlessly abseiled off it too, but for my part, I'd rather be on the radio or watching the firemen!! I guess some of Kev's perviness rubbed off on me after all...

It's a brilliant idea, basically the DJ Rossie and his broadcast assistant take the pee out of people too thick to answer simple questions. If you win, you get a prize, if not, phone back the next morning to be ridiculed again. Genius. Anyway, to the music - slightly annoying sometimes as the same song list can be repeated a few times in the day but there is a variety of genres ranging from what is in the chart to the new up and coming bands in Liverpool. The actual building is a huge cylindrical tower, which used to have a revolving restaurant at the top - now utilised as the radio station. The tower is an iconic feature in Liverpool City Centre and can be seen for miles.

Radio Merseyside was first broadcast in November 1967, and has been serving the region for over 40 years as the one stop point for news and information across a variety of topics. The station can be found at 98.5MHz when visiting the city or 1458 kHz if you're using a DAB. The Radio Merseyside building is situated on the outskirts of Liverpool One, and contains a shop that sells Mersey related items of curios and memorabilia. Radio Merseyside moved to this building in 2006. On the first floor of the building is an open learning centre, with all the main offices situated on the second floor.

A work colleague's daughter works at the station so occasionally she insists on having it on, and I must admit it bores me to tears. There is a show that seems to be like a radio soap which really makes me concentrate on my work because otherwise I would actually fall asleep. However, my gran loves BBC Merseyside, she even bought a different radio because she struggles to get a decent signal in North Wales. All that said, she does listen to it at night while she falls asleep...
