I have worked with trainers at high-level tennis academies and in collegiate athletics, and I can say without hesitation that Luca is the best trainer I have ever worked with. What sets Luca apart is not simply technical knowledge, but an extraordinary ability to translate movement into feeling. Luca's explanations, demonstrations, and carefully chosen cues allow me to make meaningful connections in my own body. I have struggled for years with tight hips, limited mobility, and a fractured back that often made movement painful and uncertain. Luca recognized immediately that so much of that tension originated in my hips and lower body, and with remarkable patience we have devoted ourselves to strengthening those areas. The results have been nothing short of transformative. I am now squatting and deadlifting--movements I once associated only with pain and the fear of further injury. Even more importantly, I carry Luca's cues with me every time I train on my own. This experience has changed not just how I exercise, but how I inhabit my body. In a world that constantly alienates us from ourselves--through screens, endless sitting, work, comparison, and the pressure to look a certain way--Luca offers the opportunity to reconnect with your body from the inside out. There are no mirrors in the gym because the goal is not performance for an audience or chasing an image. The focus is on sensation, awareness, and discovering what your body is capable of feeling. Every session leaves me more alive, more grounded, and more grateful to be embodied. I never leave exhausted in the way I once thought a "good workout" required; I leave energized, confident, and deeply connected to myself. Luca approaches every client with exceptional care and attention, meeting each person where they are and helping them build strength not as an end in itself, but as a way of expanding freedom, resilience, and joy in everyday life. That is a remarkable gift, and I cannot recommend Luca highly enough. read more

My personal training sessions with Blare at Radically Fit have been soooooo effective. I came into personal training with her to rebalance my body, since one side of it is stronger than another due to my scoliosis. Blare took so much care in understanding my situation, asking plenty of questions and reflecting back what she heard from me. This made me feel that we were on the same page. In our actual training sessions, Blare walked me through each exercise, correcting and affirming me along the way. She helped me feel comfortable doing her workouts on my own, since part of my goals included having a workout routine I could do weekly. After a few months, it was very noticeable that my body'd 'evened out' in terms of strength! I no longer had a hip drift in my squat which was how I first noticed my body was unbalanced in terms of strength. Blare is truly an expert in her field which completely matches my experience with all other trainers and instructors at Radically Fit. There is so much wisdom had among the trainers here and I can't recommend this gym enough. read more

I've been training with Luca Yacón at Radically for the past three months. This was my first time working with a personal trainer and the first time I committed myself to "the gym." I had always had a very negative connotation around the gym and held a deep belief that it wasn't a space for my body to inhabit. From the initial Zoom call to our first session, Luca's attentiveness made me feel truly supported and understood, easing my anxieties. Luca's approach to mobility and strength training is grounded in listening to your body without limiting it. I felt incredibly encouraged by the pace, but also challenged to dig into the strength I already have. Luca pays amazing attention to form and breath, laying the foundations that accommodate a variety of body types. I always leave feeling grateful for the workout, the lessons learned, the conversations, and the confidence I've gained through this supportive community at Radically Fit! read more

Luca is extremely good at listening to what a person's needs and goals are for training. While also suggesting thoughtful alternatives and improvements with sensitivity. When I first came to Luca for personal training I was in the early stages of my medical transition and I was lost in my body. Luca helped me fundamentally refine, redevelop, and rebalance my muscles in a beautiful gender affirming way. I recommend Luca to all of my trans friends and I'm delighted to do so. read more

My quick review: I was one of those kids who hated PE and I LOVE this gym. They have great classes and an amazing community. I have spent months and sometimes years between going to the gym, but here I'm showing up twice a week. It's honestly something I never thought would happen. read more

As a transgender person who loves to workout, this is my home gym I go to feel safe and seen. I can always count on everyone knowing and using my pronouns and never misgendering me. Y'ALL, THAT IS A MIRACLE IN ITSELF. I CAN'T SAY THAT ABOUT ANY OTHER PLACE... LIKE EVER. In literally any other fitness space, I'm always bracing myself for some sort of gender dysphoria or body dysmorphia trigger. This is the place I go where I don't have to worry about negative self-talk, diet talk, or any body shaming. Have you ever said that about a gym??? Radically fit is super warm, friendly, and welcoming. The trainers and members equally make it a great time every time. Lately I've been attending Emmet's barbell class and their attention to detail and fine tuning technique keep me coming back for more. This gym truly lives up to its name, radically changing the fitness industry one barbell lift at a time! read more

I thank godx every day that this space exists. After too many concussions and broken bones took me out of contact sports, I thought I would never enjoy working out again - I didn't know how to exercise without a ball to chase. Running was boring, the gym was rife with toxic masculinity, the yoga studio was not exactly my scene, recreational sports leagues were overly competitive, and being the only GNC person in dance class felt just plain humiliating. As a visibly queer person, I couldn't find a space that felt safe and supportive. But then I found Radically Fit. I enrolled in the Trans*/GNC Mind Body Alignment class with Emmet. The safety of being surrounded by people who look like me and share my experience was a breath of fresh air. But I also hadn't exercised in years and was recovering from top surgery; I felt dysphoric and disconnected from my body and I really wasn't ready to come to terms with the fact that my body couldn't do what it used to. It was scary and painful but Emmet held me through the incredibly vulnerable process of becoming reacquainted with my own body. Radically Fit taught me that I can work to feel stronger, healthier and happier, but that no matter what, my body is perfect exactly as it is today. Radically Fit is a sanctuary for anyone who has ever been made to feel like their body was anything less than perfect - queer folx, trans/GNC folx, POC, big bodied/fat identified folx, and differently abled folx, welcome to your safe space. read more

I love Rad Fit! I live outside of The Bay Area but I've been able to access their trainings and education online during the pandemic and it has single handedly shifted the way I view fitness. I always thought dieting and working out to achieve a certain aesthetic was not only part of the point but the pinnacle of fitness. Turns out I was completely WRONG! Rad Fit is teaching me to love my body and to honor it with movement, divorced from toxic ideas about what my body should look like and how it ought to function. THANK YOU RAD FIT! I'm so grateful this space exists. read more

Ah, February.... that time of year when we start breaking all the ambitious New Year's resolutions we've made. (I mean, let's be honest, y'all. Most of us failed by January 8th.) So if one of your goals for this year is to exercise more often and improve your health, then stop what you're doing right now and book a session with Lindsey. I worked with Lindsey twice a week for three months, and I was extremely happy with the results. I got so much stronger. My muscles were more defined. My stamina went through the roof. (Before I started seeing Lindsey, I was able to do 20-minute runs. After only 1 month, I was able to run for 40 minutes without stopping. And I #@$% hate running, so as far as I'm concerned, that's a miracle.) Whatever your fitness goals are, Lindsey can help you achieve them. She's knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging. She will push you, but in a positive and empowering way. And I always enjoyed chatting with her during the workouts, she's just an all-around awesome person. Also, if you have any issues or injuries, she can make adjustments and modify exercises so that you can work out safely. My neck gets easily aggravated when I train, and Lindsey always listened to me and found alternative approaches if a certain exercise caused strain. (And the really amazing part is that by the end of the 3 months, I built so much strength that my neck didn't bother me at all anymore. Hey, this fitness stuff really works!) I know personal training can stretch the budget for most people, but it's so worth it. If you want to reach your fitness goals, then invest in yourself and work with Lindsey. It'll be the best decision you make all year! read more

I have never loved a gym this much! Lindsey (the owner) and all of the staff truly meet you where you're at and help you feel strong and healthy on your terms. I have so much fun at the gym and have made some of my closest friends here. It is truly a magical space for queer, trans/GNC, POC, fat bodied folx and allies. They offer sliding scale membership so anyone can join the community regardless of financial ability, and they offer many classes exclusively for trans/GNC folx, POC and fat bodied folx. I feel grateful every day that Radically Fit exists .and the first class is free! read more

About a year and a half ago, I was a semi-reformed couch potato who hiked regularly but still thought of exercise as a bit of a chore. I was sufficiently out of shape that group classes sounded intimidating, so I asked Lindsey for help with strength, fitness, and just plain balance and coordination. I'm now the fittest I've ever been! Better yet, working out has become something I look forward to. Lindsey mixes it up with HIIT, agility, and strength work, but there is nothing quite like heavy barbell lifts to make a girl feel mighty! Lindsey usually gets me to do more than I thought I could. She also reminds me that patience, good form, and recovery time are all part of making progress. Lindsey never lets me get away with "can't-do," but I appreciate that her style is more cheerleader than drill sergeant. If Lindsey is yelling, it's to celebrate a new milestone! I always leave our one-on-one sessions knowing I've worked hard, but feeling great. Lindsey will meet you where you are--whatever your identity, shape, or fitness level--and help you celebrate every step of getting where you want to be. read more

I've joined a lot of different gyms and taken a lot of different classes, and this is the only place where I've felt enthusiastic about showing up each week. I've always been an active person AND I've always been a fat person, so a lot of fitness people just don't know what to do with me - I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "Wow, you have excellent body awareness" from a surprised instructor. Barf. I signed up for personal training sessions with Lindsey, the owner, and for the first time got to talk about my fitness goals with no pressure or presumption around weight loss or body size. I told her I want to feel powerful in my body, and every week she put a workout together that helped me do just that. The space itself is lovely, parking is pretty easy to find, and the community being built at the gym is really something special. I'm currently taking some time off for financial reasons, but honestly can't wait to get back in there and start taking some of the classes. If you are fat/big bodied, and/or queer, and/or trans, you should check this place out! And if you are none of those things you should still come, enjoy the awesome community, and support this great business. read more

After 2 years of cancer treatment, I lost most of the muscle I had. I was pretty convinced the days of my enjoying exercise and building strength were behind me. Especially as a working class, Butch, woman of color who felt weak and disconnected from her new body. And then I stumbled across Lindsey and Radically Fit. I was accepted into a month long POC Personal Training program and the experience was better than I could have hoped for. The opportunity to work-out (and be trained by) folks who are primarily POC and queer has opened up my world and how I feel about my post-cancer body. My month of training is over, but I am continuing with Lindsey and have happily joined the Radically Fit community. This place is truly awesome. What these folks are doing for their community is inspiring. Walk in the door, nervous or not. You won't be sorry. read more

Radically Fit - Gyms Near Me - Oakland, California

I LOVE their free community workouts! The trainers are super helpful + knowledgable, but not overbearing. I also appreciate how willing they are to work with your particular needs. You'll never be shamed for not being able to do something. They have great tips and modifications for all strength and experience levels, too. read more

There are a lot of trainers available to us in the Bay Area, but I truly believe that there is no one quite like Lindsey. Her work outs are really challenging and you never do the same routine twice. She works closely with you to create personalized sessions based on your current level of fitness, interests and your goals. Lindsey is always genuinely excited for our work outs, and her enthusiasm is contagious; I have started looking forward to our time together and am eager to push myself a little bit harder than I had last time. Lindsey is super motivating and seems to know exactly when I can do one more rep and when I need a break. She never lets me slack off for a minute, and she is always motivating and encouraging me to give my all without ever raising her voice. What makes Lindsey unique is her desire to go beyond the work out. She wants to know the "why" behind my desire to work out, what my short- and long-term goals are, what has held me back, and then she helps move me past my own mental blocks and my own occasional feelings of doubt. Having made a full transformation herself, when I have my times of self doubt or I get down on myself, I always feel comfortable sharing that with Lindsey because she truly gets those feelings and she knows how to help get me past that and focus on the positives. She isn't just focused on your physical health, she is truly dedicated to helping the whole person. For Lindsey, her goal isn't just to make me fit, it's to help create a healthy and sustainable lifestyle where working out is an enjoyable aspect of it. I'm SO grateful to have her in my corner, cheering me on as I sweat through another set of goblet squats and star jumps. Don't ask her what those are, though, or she'll make you do them. :) read more

I've been going to Rad Fit for the past 3.5 years, and it's been a a amazing experience. When I hit 30, I was having body pains and feeling stiff, so I was gifted a membership. I was used to an open gym environment and felt unsure about classes, but I found it the best way to workout. It kept me motivated and I enjoyed the community feel. There's a wide range of classes and trainings at different times of day. All of the trainers I've had, have been amazing. The trainers are really cognizant of access needs and help to individual tailor workouts. I'm also super grateful that when I've been in financial flux, Luca has been able to work with my budget. Now that I'm into about 3.5 years of working out, I'm feeling a much better relationship with my body and so happy to be apart of this gym! read more

I LOVE THIS GYM! This is the first fitness environment I've felt welcomed, comfortable, and safe in, particularly as bigger bodied queer woman of color. Lindsey goes above and beyond to run a mission-driven gym, supports community, is explicit in centering Black and Brown trans and queer folks. Emmett is a wonderful trainer and makes weight lifting accessible and safe for newbies. read more

Lindsey is the real deal. She creates a welcoming, non-judgmental culture that defines her personal and group training. Lindsey encourages you to kick your own ass, but to also be gentle with yourself. Life's too short to hate yourself for eating a scoop of salty caramel at Ici, just so long as you love yourself enough to follow that up with some wall balls and planks :) She knows how to ask you to push yourself, and her workouts are designed to give you the freedom to hit your own goals (even in the group workouts). You'll sweat buckets, but Lindsey emphasizes proper stretching, warmup, and cool down to help make sure you avoid injury and keep hitting your personal goals. read more

Lindsey is AMAZING. Her outdoor, group workouts near Lake Merritt are my favorite! No matter what your fitness level she'll adapt the workout to make it challenging for you (I have bad knees and she's always quick to give me options for how I can modify). I thought I knew what I was doing in the gym before I trained with Lindsey, but boy was I wrong. She corrected my form on the things I was doing wrong and gave me great new ideas to try out on my own! Lindsey is extremely motivating and encouraging, but never gets in your face or loud about it. She's got a passion for teaching and truly wants you to succeed. Don't think about it, just sign up. you WON'T regret it* *you will, however, be incredibly sore. But in a good way ;-) read more

Lindsey is one of a kind. As a fitness instructor and fitness fanatic I take group fitness classes all the time- Lindsey's boot camp and personal training is my FAVORITE WORKOUT for all-around strength, toning, endurance and overall health/fitness. I love Lindsey's style, motivation, music and sequence of exercises. The week after a workout with Lindsey, you are guaranteed to feel your legs and whole body stronger and like you can take it to the next level. Lindsey has the best personality. She is the type of person you meet, and think, "I want to spend more time with her." Her leadership is encouraging, and she always keeps it real- no fakeness. She gives you the opportunity to really thrive without judgment or the need to be "perfect." I would highly recommend Lindsey to the individual new to working out, and the fitness pro alike! You won't regret it!!! read more

If you wanna booty...GO TO LINDSEY!!! I seriously hated working out until I started training with Lindsey. She understands where you are physically and works with you patiently but firmly to get you where you want to be. I could barely do a push up before I started working with her but now (barely 3 months later) I can dead lift 150lbs!!!! I had no idea I had that in me! Lindsey is seriously the best trainer in the bay. She makes it a great time and I find myself not only sweating but laughing. I never thought I would look forward to working out but now, on my days off, I miss it. read more

Radically Fit is awesome! Kind caring folks who always make me feel welcome and encourage me to work out at my own pace

tl;dr Goldilocks tries to workout, ends up actually enjoying it because Lindsey listens. I am quite fickle about working out, and not just because of all the usual reasons (it requires effort and facing personal limits and failures), but also about how I'm motivated: too much competition and I'd rather let someone else who cares more win; too little competition and I take it too easy. Too much aggressive encouragement and I resent you for not listening to my protests; too little encouragement and I think I'm doing everything wrong and don't push myself. I like running but not on treadmills or pavement and not on trails with too many rocks or that I've never been on. All this means I hate going to classes and, when I moved to Oakland, had no idea where to start working out again on my own. Luckily I found Lindsey. Lindsey, since Day 1, has been great at both pushing me to work harder and recognizing when I've reached my limits. Somehow she's been great at reading the difference between "I'm going to stop now because I will pass out" and "I'm trying to not work as hard because this is difficult for me." (Trust me, when I don't want to do things I can be a great actor). And even if it is the latter or you're just having an off-day (or you were sedentary for like the past year) she respects your limits and I trust her to never push me too far. Her personalized instruction is great for someone who wants to know that they're doing each exercise in the proper way. She never shames you for needing to go down in weights you're lifting or to switch to a modified movement to reach the goal of the exercise while respecting your body's needs. The big difference I find with Lindsey from other trainers is that I feel like she actually is listening to me and my needs and goals. Lindsey is certainly qualified and knowledgable--I don't think many others could have the flexibility and improvisation that meeting such differing needs takes. Lindsey also is great about celebrating the small achievements and marking your milestones--from congratulating you for trying something new to moving up in weights successfully. And she comes to all her trainings with a great energy, enthusiasm, and humor. Working out with her is a great start to the day. read more

I've tried so many gyms in Oakland. I ended up always leaving for the same reasons - harmful weight loss expectations, crowded classes, and creepy dudes. Even when a local gym offered an alternative "body positive" experience - I was disappointed to find out that this wasn't the case at all and I felt worse after than I did before. I'm a queer Latina who happens to love my body as it is, and I was looking for a place that would be able to welcome all those realities. ENTER RADICALLY FIT! I've known Lindsey for a couple years, and (as the other reviews have noted), she's AMAZING! All the trainers are, actually. From Emmett to Moriah, the trainers are incredibly kind and always ensure we know that it's perfectly fine to go at our own paces. I love working out with other queer people of color who are just trying to find the space in the week to move their bodies and feel good about themselves. This gym has become a VITAL part of my mental health (something I'd never thought happen!) and I'm so grateful for the space. You won't regret checking it out! read more

I've had the pleasure/honor of working with Lindsey at two different gym locations, both in group classes and personal training. I love her style, it's that tough love I need and appreciate. Her workouts are always challenging and can be scaled down/up in group classes, they are never boring, and she is super encouraging -- especially when you start to doubt yourself. From weight lifting, to core workouts, to boot camp, she always brings it! She is a great listener and pays attention to your needs and goals. You will not be disappointed! read more

I found the approach to fitness I was looking for at Radically Fit!!!! I have body pain and wanted a space where I could get stronger, feel less pain through building that strength and move my body in ways that make me feel good. And I want to see all bodies celebrated! Most mainstream "fitness" culture at gyms has messaging I loath, shaming I can't stand and basically everything about it I find offensive and alienating. Radically Fit is the only gym I've ever been involved with where I found a community supportive of folks marginalized by the mainstream fitness world. That commitment to its mission shows up in all aspects of the project: how the owner Lindsey approaches decision making, the board that advises her, how trainers are treated and how they train members, thoughtfulness in the messaging in the space, accessibility through cost, how the classes are run, everything!! Lindsey and everyone involved at RadFit are growing this amazing project with openness to learning together and building a truly supportive radical fitness space. I love the free community workouts, I've been to the boxing classes, yoga classes, warrior workouts, and special classes like when Fat Kid Dance Party was recently held there, and loved them all!! I'm nothing but excited to see RadFit grow and build an even bigger community of folks celebrating all our different bodies, strength, movement and needs! I'm so glad we have Radically Fit here in Oakland!! read more

I love Lindsey's workouts! I attend her Sunday strength and conditioning classes that she teaches as ProAction Athletics and am always happy I rolled out of bed. Her workouts are always challenging, fun, never boring and always a good ass kicking. She is awesome at making workouts well balanced, super challenging but attainable at the same time, which for me is the perfect combo. It's rare for me to get sore these days from my workouts but without fail I'm always feeling it the next couple days after working out with Lindsey. She knows how to push, encourage and motivate her clients, while paying attending to form and technique. If you are looking for a super rewarding hour, you should stop on by! read more

Lindsey is an fantastic trainer and motivator. She not only has the knowledge and enthusiasm of a great trainer, but she is invested in her clients and wants to better know you personally in order to help you achieve your goals. Lindsey is such a great trainer! Every time that I had a session I was challenged to do my best and I could definitely see improvements in my strength and vascular endurance after just a few sessions. She is super positive, funny, and can help you stay motivated through whatever you could be going through (like on bad workdays, woman problems, etc)! What I also loved about working out with Lindsey is that you're able to do so in small groups too. My sessions with her were some of the best workouts ever!!! read more

I love Radically Fit! Their focus on body positivity is a nice change to the standard business practices of other gyms. They're LGBTQ supportive which makes the environment feel very welcoming. I would recommend checking out the free community work out they host once a month. read more

My wife and I have been working out with Lindsey for about 4 months. We feel great! We had been working out with a trainer at a gym for over a year and were maintaining our level of fitness but in just four months with Lindsey we're noticing new muscles on ourselves, and our endurance has greatly improved. She pays such close attention to our individual needs and the workouts are fun, challenging and never get boring! read more

Lindsey is awesome! I take the Strength and Conditioning class she leads at ProAction Athletics. As others have noted, her classes are no joke: really tough, but doable and with a strong emphasis on proper form and safety. Exercises are designed and sequenced to build strength and endurance quickly. Lindsey has a great low-key teaching style, meets you where you are and challenges you to challenge yourself. She takes real pride in seeing you progress and her encouragement motivates you to go beyond what you think you're capable of (and helps you get up off the floor after a rough class). I always look forward to her Sunday workouts because they set me up for the week--taking her class just once a week has helped me build strength and muscle tone, sped up my metabolism and increased my cardio endurance. Yes, you will feel sore the next day but also stronger, more fit and fierce. Jump in! read more

I first met Lindsey when she was a badass trainer at the gym I was attending. I have since attended her classes at other locations and make it out to a few of her bootcamps. I love Lindsey's energy and her honesty. She "gets it" (for me that means she knows first hand what its like to struggle with weight and motivation) which is awesome as not all Personal trainers have been there. She also has a way of knowing what will motivate you and what your limits are, she watches your form like a hawk and will help you adjust yourself in a way that will help you get the best results. She's awesome!! read more

I've been an active or athletic type person for most of my life, but have often come up against the procrastinating nature of my lazy couch potato alter ego and fallen off the workout wagon. I started going to Lindsey's classes and realized that she was going to be the key to keeping that couch potato from taking over my life for too long. Something I really appreciate about Lindsey's training style is that she meets you where you are, and then pushes you from there. She is also willing to change things up to meet your needs. I came into a training session kind of angry from life situations and told Lindsey about it and she changed my workout from HIIT to a boxing session. I got all my aggression out on those pads and got super sweaty all at the same time. It made my day so much better. Lindsey also supports you through times when you feel like you could do better, and reminds you that you are going to have ups and downs in your workout routine, just like in other aspects of life. I'd recommend Lindsey to anyone looking to take their fitness up a notch or two. Plus it doesn't hurt that she super funny and easy to hang with, even when your sweating buckets off your face. read more

I've been working out with Lindsey, twice a week, for nearly a year now -- I've donned my exercise costume regularly for three years, moving from trainer to trainer, gym to gym searching for the right fit -- and the right fit is solely predicated on finding a person that is knowledgeable, encouraging without condescension and can apply an ample amount of motivation without turning into a complete turn off when placed up against my considerable anti-exercise leanings -- Lindsey has proved to be an excellent match for this rare skill set and a determined, but patient foil to my see exercise and avoid attitude. I've without a doubt progressed in my fitness level and undoubtedly in my health with Lindsey's steadfast support guiding me along the way -- I proclaim her awesome in all respects, by providing challenging fitness goals while indulging my gripes(my many many gripes) ..she has kept me engaged for nearly a year and that fact alone is saying something... -- highly recommend!! read more
