She'd never had any dance classes or anything else of the sort, but like many little girls she adores tutus so it was a perfect opportunity to try it out without a commitment. Yeah, we're signing her up for weekly classes there. The teachers were great with all the kids, it was well organized, no dress code (my DD wore a different tutu outfit every day of course, but there were kids in all kinds of outfits), and they have loaner shoes so you don't have to shell out $$$ on gear only to find out your kid hates dance. The director of the school was great with communication and wasn't bothered at all by me checking in- DD had never been to a drop off program other than her 2x/wk preschool where she already knew some kids and this was all new people so I was nervous. She was one of the youngest in the class so of course her dancing skills at the week end recital weren't as... "complete" as the others but you could tell she had been practicing movements and was doing her darndest to show them off when she wasn't saying things like "Hi, Mommy! There's Daddy!", "My gramma's here, too! My gramma!", and "Look Mommy, I'm doing my arabesque!". I highly recommend their camps, and after a few months of classes I'll update my review.

I can't believe I forgot to write a review of this guy's class. Guess I was trying to forget the…read moreawful treatment and lack of professionalism I received from the instructor. Tony was incredibly rude toward me when I attended my first dance session with him. The other students were more helpful and polite than the instructor himself. I'm not the most coordinated person. I'll admit that and appreciate any person's patience when teaching me a sport or activity that requires a decent amount of coordination. I believe I was learning Polka or foxtrot at his class, but I was struggling with getting the coordination down since I was a first-timer. Tony was going about making sure that the students were on the right track. He looked frustrated that I wasn't getting it, and finally started to berate me. He asked me: "Why don't you understand how to do it correctly? Can you not understand English?" I was stunned and furious to say the least. He wrote me off as a foreigner unable to understand English based on looks instead of being patient like a teacher should be. I'm a native English speaker and was born in the US, unlike him, but saying something hurtful so casually like that wouldn't be acceptable even if the person wasn't a native English speaker. I've heard that South America had horrendous racial tensions, so I could see that Tony brought its racism with him when he came to the United States. If you're not an Anglo or Hispanic person, and don't have any experience with dancing, then expect Tony to say something rude when you don't understand his dance lessons on your first try. I excused myself and went to cry in the bathroom for a few minutes for the poor treatment. Then discreetly left the building. Lo and behold, the man had the gall to follow me to my car! He even positioned himself so that I couldn't slam my door without hitting him. He started advertising his other classes, and gave half-hearted encouragement since I was a beginner. As far as I'm concerned, the "encouragement" was too little to late when he burned a bridge by criticizing my English listening skills. I won't try learning how to dance again thanks to this man even if it's for my own wedding.

But now that I've become a mom, and have a mom body, decided I'd try all the Pilates, core, barre you name it workouts in the vicinity of my bubble, and what better way than a quick walk from my office on the days I go into the office. I'm actually a lifetime member so I frequent my gym up north for the fantabulous child care, but pure barre was something I tried recently again with sweetgreens opening and sponsoring a workout class. I've found I absolutely love Pure Barre Define and Empower, these 2 have the core basis of the classic routine, but incorporate more weights and cardio than my prior core workouts of Classic. I am overdue for a classic trial, and taking classes with Rachel (owner) and Margaret have been absolutely lovely and fantastic, uplifting and such a highlight of my day, getting such a good workout in, and leaving just to do it all over again next week. I purchased a pack of credits and appreciate how I can get my classes, which this location can book up pretty quick if you don't book in advance, but the community is solid, and I love the classes are non judgemental, you go at your own pace, and the instructors have hands on adjustments to help you improve, and genuinely keep you here for yourself! I don't feel like I can go anywhere else and not leave high on endorphins and dying from a killer workout lol :) Finally - the fact that the music is everything I enjoy, well it 1000% makes my hour that much more enjoyable and fun. Heck go to 3 demo classes! (like we did before committing). Heartsong is kinda pricey and you want to make sure it is something you and your baby will enjoy! Even though that first class is 0+ months, I truly do not think babies get too much out of it when they are suuuper tiny. We went to our first demo class when our daughter was 2 months old. We were given a free cd and boy did we play that thing like crazy. We knew she was a bit too young, but we started playing the music for her. If you have Spotify, look up "Music Together" playlist. Play that for your kiddo! You will learn the songs quickly and start to sing them too. At 4 months, we took her to another demo class. At this point, our daughter had 2 months of Heartsong songs and dancing in the car and in the home. She LOVED this demo class and it made me happy to see her connection to me during it too. At 6 months, we did our 3rd demo class. Picture your favorite band where you know all of their songs. Then you end up front row at their concert. Picture that excitement. That was my daughter at this demo class. That is how I knew she was ready for a semester. We signed up that very day. We are halfway through their Fall semester and it is the highlight of our week. It is so special for us to see our daughter's connection to music at such a young age. We have only had a handful of classes and she has already been introduced to so many different types of instruments, music styles, dancing etc. We take what we learn in class and incorporate it at home too. Both my children went to this school for a year of preschool, even though the school considered…read morethem both to be neurotypical, after my older son got kicked out of his preschool for behavioral issues. I can't say enough good things about Williams. They have on-site behavioral therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Each classroom has a quiet sensory room attached for children who get over stimulated, and there's an indoor gross motor room that my son was able to able to utilize when he became too hyperactive. They have smaller class sizes, and were able to work with him one-on-one when he needed it. The teachers and other staff were all very competent and capable. We interviewed at several different schools, most of which had said that they would be willing to take him and might be able to meet his needs, but it gave me a great deal of Peace of mind KNOWING that this school would be able to with with him regardless of his behaviors. Both my children thrived at the school, where they were only surviving before. I also think it was a very valuable experience for both of them to be surrounded by this diverse population and the teacher was even able to challenge them both academically, even though they were only in preschool. They both loved going to school there, and they learned a lot! My older son was eventually diagnosed with ADHD, sensory integration disorder, and a tic disorder. He's now transitioned to public school. Well see how that goes. Williams set the bar really high.
