Hannah is a charming nail tech and very professional! She came to the waiting area to collect me,…read moreoffered me water, and made sure I was comfortable in my chair. We chatted easily and she was very sweet natured and pleasant. The pedicure was perfection. She took time to carefully trim and prep my toenails and applied gel with ease and accuracy. I was wholly relaxed and pampered. The whole shop seems very comfortable and client focused. Stylists were upbeat and chatty with customers and each other. Five Star!

Overall, I had a good experience with Hair Fusion in the sense that my hair did turn out beautiful…read morein the end, but I wanted to share some constructive feedback about the appointment and the process it took to get there. I booked an updo for a wedding and, when I called to schedule, I specifically asked to be paired with someone who was experienced and comfortable doing formal/wedding updos. For context, the style I requested was a very classic, straightforward low bridal bun--the kind of elegant updo you see frequently in wedding inspiration photos. I wanted soft face-framing pieces in the front, a few twisted sections in the back, and the hair twisted and pinned around mesh hair padding that would serve as the foundation for the low bun. I brought multiple inspiration photos with me so there was a very clear visual of what I was hoping for. The beginning of the appointment was honestly the most concerning part for me. The stylist seemed unsure of how to approach the style and spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to build what I considered to be a fairly standard formal updo. The first attempt did not resemble my inspiration photos and did not look good, so I ultimately had to ask for it to be undone and started over. After that, I felt like I needed to closely monitor the rest of the appointment and give direction throughout the process to make sure we stayed on track with the photos I had provided. Because of that, I wasn't really able to relax and enjoy having my hair done before the wedding. The final result ended up being very pretty, but it took a significant amount of trial and error to get there. That was especially surprising because, when I made the appointment, I specifically asked to be paired with someone who was experienced with updos. Based on how uncertain the process felt at the beginning and how much guidance was needed along the way, the experience did not match what I expected after making that specific request. Thankfully, I had also brought my own mesh hair padding with me for the appointment. At one point, the stylist called over to the receptionist to ask whether the salon had any available. Before the receptionist could answer, I pulled out the padding I had brought, so I honestly do not know whether the salon had any in stock or not. Still, because the padding was an essential part of creating the particular updo shown in my inspiration photos, it made me wonder what the plan would have been if I had not happened to bring my own. For formal services booked in advance, I think it would be helpful to make sure the necessary styling supplies are available or to let clients know beforehand if there is anything they need to provide themselves. I completely understand that every stylist has areas where they are still growing, and I think additional experience or continuing education with classic formal and bridal styles would be very beneficial. My concern is less about the fact that the appointment took a long time and more about how much uncertainty there seemed to be with a relatively traditional low bridal bun. I also noticed that the salon seemed very lightly staffed that Saturday morning. When we arrived, there was only one stylist working, and we waited an uncomfortable amount of time before being greeted. By the time we left, I believe there were only around three stylists working in total. While I was there, several walk-ins also came through, and it seemed like there simply were not enough stylists available to accommodate the amount of people coming in. For a busy Saturday in Durango, that was surprising. Again, I was happy with how my hair looked when everything was finished, and I appreciate the effort that ultimately went into getting it there. The finished updo photographed beautifully and worked well for the wedding. I just think that with more training and experience in formal styling, stronger preparation for booked services, and perhaps additional staffing during busy weekends, the overall experience could be much more polished, confident, and relaxing for future clients.

I have crazy curly hair, and Ellie is the first hairstylist that truly took the time to get to know…read moreall of it's quirks! First with a simple haircut, then a month later giving it a overhaul with an amazing cut and color. I have struggled my entire life to find someone that could cut my hair to look great curly, but also look fabulous if I straightened it!! In addition, her salon is a wonderful break from life, where you can step into a sweet and stylish atmosphere and just relax. All at an adorable price! Seriously, Ellie is the best hairstylist ever :)

She got it close, so very close. If I was to be in CO longer, or if I ever visit and need a haircut, I will definitely try to get an appt with Ellie's Place. It usually takes a few cuts to really get a feel for my type of hair (thick and coarse and bleached). Then, on a previous visit, she repaired a very bad cut from a different vendor there in town. I think I've decided that most women wear their hair long in Durango, so cute short cuts are not very common. Ellie did a wonderful job evening up the disaster I was left with, and I'm forever thankful for that! See you next time Ellie!

I first came into this barbershop roughly 8 months ago and have no affiliation with the shop,…read morebarber, owner, etc. I am just a customer who posted on a Facebook group looking for a barber and Steven and the Cortez Barber we're one of the recommendations. I have been driving to Durango to get a proper cut. I'm originally from Atlanta and am used to old classic barber shops who aren't afraid to use a straight razor and know how to do a proper fade and can properly take care of a beard and it's been hard to find that in Cortez. Steven knocks it out of the park though. To be honest, his prices are too cheap for the work that he does. Recently he told me he was thinking about bringing some changes to the shop, upgrading his services, sprucing up the place, etc. Well I got a taste of some of those possible changes today. I got a special beard treatment that was incredibly relaxing and good quality overall. Hot towel, straight razor, vibrating face massage, and a full shampoo wash. I'm telling you, it was the real deal. An easy 50-60 dollar service if that's what he wanted to charge. Obviously the works isn't for everyone but I'm just saying, if you are a fan of kicking back at a barbershop, relaxing and getting a nice treatment then go see what Steven can do for you. The only thing missing is a cold beer and a cigar at the end. I hope the community comes together and can make it where the services become a regular option and in doing so I would expect and hope the shop starts charging what they deserve. The minute anyone starts trimming a beard I can't help but think the services are much more then a normal 15-20 dollar haircut. They do mainly do appointments but take walk ins at certain times. Definitely call the shop or check their social media page for more info on that. I'm personally a fan of the appointments because I'm not looking to wait for my haircut or feel rushed while people wait. Don't forget, give credit when credit is due and don't forget to tip your barber!!

Told the barber I wanted an undercut fade. 1 to 3, 1/2" off…read morethe top. Simple. Slightly edgy?, but a super simple cut. He begins cutting, and after a while, says "I'm going to make a little bit of change for aesthetic, reasons." Uh oh. So he gives me this very competent, mild-mannered, bland-as-heck dad cut, that has nothing to do with undercut OR fade. Lost my trust. I had someone else fix it elsewhere. Bleh. 2 stars for decent skills in a cut that he decided I should have, instead of the one I wanted.
