Made an appointment and requested their service with a Protégé or Studio stylist listed on their website at $55 and $65. I came in today and wanted to confirm that was the level of service I was getting. The gal at the counter said, "no, there is only the one stylist-Alayna- the owner and that is $72. They questioned me about my call and making the appointment. I said, okay, I'll do the senior level today with Alayna. Rather than provide good customer service or apologize for their mistake, she came over and said, "You know what, I'm not cutting your hair. I'm not going to do it." Their website is advertising services they don't offer and whoever made my appointment mislead me. I'm glad I didn't get a hair cut as the lack of integrity shown by the owner is enough of a reason not to give them my business. I miss the old Lemon Head! read more

Hello all, My mother went to Lemonhead salon in Durango today for a simple layered haircut and one inch trim on her waist length hair before my wedding next week but instead was screamed at by the unhinged owner and was send out the door in tears with basically a bob. She isn't the type to complain about these things either and tends to just tell hairstylists she loves the cut even if she doesn't. She called me earlier crying so hard I thought she was going to tell me someone in our family had died and explained that all she had done was to inhale a bit in surprise when she was turned around and saw that the entire front of her hair was cut to her ears. She even gave the owner a reference picture and explained she only wanted an inch or so trimmed off to get rid of the dead ends on her healthy hair. The woman proceeded to scream in her face "are you going to be a pain in my a*s??" and when she just shut down and didn't say anything in response she screamed that "there are a million f*cking hair salons in this town" and for her to get out. My mother started sobbing and begged any of the other hair stylists to fix it or even to dry her sopping wet hair before she left and they all refused and even started laughed in her face like mean girls. She never said an angry or questioning word to this woman and had just been chatting with her about being excited for the wedding and the plans coming up. Whatever you do, don't get your hair cut at Lemonhead Salon. The owner enjoys taking her frustrations out on her customers and will mistreat you or your loved ones no matter how polite you are. read more

I had wanted 3 layers of blonde with no grey or red. The stylist was rude and told me to trust her. My tears brought the owner over, who basically said there was blonde in there, when all I see is red and grey. Unprofessional stylists cancel all the time. I'm very understanding and the first three times my appointment was cancelled I rescheduled. Well this is the fourth time and at this point I don't appreciate being lied to, obviously your stylists have something more important to do than honor scheduled weeks in advance appointments. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this salon and it's staff. It's clean, cute and everyone is so friendly. You can tell that they really value their clients and do everything in their power to keep people returning, which they do! Where to begin?! I came in to see Heather nervous and pedantic and not only did she calm my nerves, but she NAILED my cut, color and style. I brought her balayage extensions which she color matched PERFECTLY, then came back the following day to have them trimmed into my shoulder length hair. The effect was seamless! How often do you go into a salon, show them a photo of what you want, and come out with almost a perfect replication. New customer for life! Highly recommend Heather at Lemonhead. Alayna cut my hair a couple weeks ago and I loved it. When I told her about special hombre color I wanted, she said she could do it or Heather would be great, too. I went thru Lemon Head Hair Salon's instagram and according to the photos, I gave Heather a shot. Results: I love love LOVE my new color!!!!! I am posting this in hope that nobody else will have to go through this extremely stressful experience. I haven't gotten my hair professionally colored in 4 years; finding an adequate stylist in a new town is was daunting for me. After much research, I chose go with Heather at Lemon Head Hair Salon AVEDA. I was going from essentially a black (box color) to a blonde balayage. I understood this was going to take multiple sessions to achieve the light ashy blonde I wanted. So I went to Lemonhead and definitely felt like I was in good hands. Heather was really nice and explained that it would probably come out in warmer tones and I understood that. She foiled my entire head, I was surprised with how fast she did it. It processed for 40 minutes and she rinsed and applied a toner. When it was done I was happy with how it much the black color had lifted, but I was definitely bummed with the brassy, orange color. I tried to be positive about the final look and thanked her and went on my way. I had paid her $155 for service and tipped her $25. I have worked in the service industry and believe in tipping karma, I knew she tried her best. I was shocked when I woke up at how orange my hair looked. After further examination, I discovered how uneven the color placement was and that it had no dimension. It looked sloppy and very unprofessional. I talked with my good friend who is an amazing stylist and showed her a picture. She recommended another toning process. I contacted my stylist and told her my concern and she agreed to apply a toner that afternoon. When I returned to Lemonhead, she had another stylist come over to get a second opinion. They said that Heather had performed the service that she had promised and refused to apply another toner because they feared it would damage my hair. I could respect that they were uncomfortable with toning my hair but they did not offer any form of customer service to console me. They emphasized how dry my hair but did not offer a deep conditioner. They were extremely insensitive and expressed no empathy. They told me they would tone my hair only if I paid for it. They recommended I come back in a month and get a full highlight. I felt ganged up on and bullied. I experienced extremely unauthentic energy from these women. I was intensely frustrated but I did not lose my temper. I left Lemonhead I walked down to Shampoo which is another salon in downtown Durango. They were actually closed but I desperately knocked on the door and the ladies kindly let me in. I was in tears when I explained what happened and they were extremely empathetic and understanding. Despite being closed, they immediately offered me a toning treatment and were able to remove the orange tones from my hair. My hair felt soft and healthy and was much warmer and more blended. I was satisfied when I left because they were so knowledgeable and went the extra mile for me! I also called my credit card company and disputed the $180 charge to Lemonhead because it cost me $85 dollars to get it fixed and I feel that Lemonhead should cover that cost and discount or void the remaining service charge because the color placement was so sloppy. In my opinion, the stylists I dealt with at Lemonhead were cold, insensitive and stubborn. They did not provide satisfactory customer service. I think my stylist rushed through my treatment because of how blotchy and unblended my color was, it looked extremely amateur. I didn't understand because I saw her coloring work before I booked my appointment and it looked really beautiful. I was offended with their customer service and balayage work and will never work with them again. I recommend this stylist is more mindful or her work, receives training in her balayage technique and improves her skills in customer service. Photos are available. read more

They were all true. I got an appointment within a few days and Lindsey did a terrific job of making me look good again! Very good choice! read more

Finding a new hair stylist is like finding a new doctor-nerve wracking. I called Lemon Heads because they are an Aveda Salon which I feel is a good indication of great talent. My appointment was with some Lindsey at that point. Now she is Lindsey, the amazing stylist that listens to what you want and then over delivers. I went here about 5 months ago and let me tell you I have had some really bad experiences with people cutting my hair, so bad in fact that I just put dreads in and decided to stop dealing with salons all together. Anyways, when my husband and I moved to Colorado for a short amount of time I decided to comb my dreads out and my hair was a mess and just terrible all together. I was shedding more than 5 dogs do in a year within a few days. We drove to Durango to go grocery shopping and I decided you know what the heck ill try getting my hair cut because at this point I was pretty desperate because my hair looked so bad. The woman who cut my hair was so nice. It wasn't at all one of those awkward experiences I remember from hair salons. She knew exactly how to cut my hair (which most people don't because it is so curly.) My hair looked amazing!!! for the first time in my life. Since then I moved to Arizona and have been to 4 different salons and none of them are anywhere near as great as this place. read more

I received the worst haircut of my life via Lindsay. Afterwards I tried to call the owner to discuss what happened and how to deal with this limpy hair I was left with as I've always had thick, natural, wavy hair which was destroyed in 15 minutes. The owner took two weeks to call me back and then played phone tag never leaving a time for me to reach her. So here I am leaving a bad review since I couldn't discuss this with the owner and so that no one else goes through what I'm going through and will have to try to deal with for another year or so. :( 1. I asked Lindsay to make it so my hair doesn't lie flat on the top of my head. 2. I also asked her to redo the layers she had made during my first appointment with her two months earlier. 3. I asked her to leave the length and make sure she knows that I do nothing with my hair but shake it after showering and shampooing. Instead Lindsey thinned my entire head of hair so that now it is stuck to my head ... there is no fullness left! She thinned it so rigorously that I don't even recognize myself. I have (had) thick, natural wavy hair that takes care of itself, and now I'm left with thin scraggles I can see through. I paid $65 for this (plus $15 tip, as I had no idea what damage had been done); just a haircut no product, no blow dry, no shampoo. I specifically told her that I do nothing with my hair but shake it. I am left with limp hair for the first time in my life and I look like a homeless woman. It is so thin that if I walk into a dry room I get static cling for the first time in my life and I've had to cut off at least 3 inches off the length, just so I don't have to look at this limpy straggles flying around. I still have not been able to speak with the owner, 2 months later, even after leaving many messages and explaining what happened. read more

Having just moved to Durango earlier this year, I am so thankful for having found Lemon Head Salon! Meaning, I'm so thankful that I love the salon and don't have to shop and search around for somewhere else. I go to Heather for my haircut and style, and she is absolutely wonderful. The cut she gives me was literally a cut I'd asked a previous stylist for two years, and he never got it quite right. She nailed it on the first try. And, just in watching Heather helped me get more comfortable using a straight iron as a curling iron. They also use pretty exclusively Aveda products, and that's always a sign of a good salon in my book. Everyone at Lemon Head -- from the other stylists to the receptionist -- are super chill and low key. You even get a hand massage while you're hair is getting cut. All in all, a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. Oh, and did I mention, I think Heather is great! Unless she moves on to other endeavors, I won't go anywhere else! read more

I booked Lemonhead to do my makeup and hair for my wedding. They also did the hair for all of my bridesmaids and the makeup for two of them and my mom and mother in law. They came all the way to Telluride twice, once to do a hair trial (with Thera) and then on the day of the wedding. They were on time both times and very professional the whole time. Thera even trimmed my bangs before styling on the day of the wedding. Then Alayna did our make up. I insisted I wanted a natural look and for the make up to not be overdone. She checked with me the whole way while doing my makeup and I was so amazed by the results. Now that I've gotten some of our photos, I can tell how good our hair and makeup looked too! Everyone looked beautiful and we had fun with them during the prepping process. They were also helpful and responsive during the planning process. I am not from this area but go to a hair salon in rural Oklahoma once a week for shampoo/blow-dry and style for my barely shoulder length hair. We are traveling and it was time for my weekly hair salon trip so stopped by and made an appointment and was quoted $45 for what I always get in Oklahoma. I was kind of surprised at that price because it is $20 more than what I pay less my tip. The next day when I arrived, Nate met me and my appointment started right on time. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable and made my hair look the best it has ever looked! I was thoroughly pleased but was shocked when they told me it would be $55! Evidently the shampoo & blow-dry was $45 but if you wanted a curling iron style...that was $10 more. I would have given this salon a 5 star review if I would have been charged what was quoted. That being said, if you want your hair to look FABULOUS, ask for NATE! (I believe he only works during the summer in Durango and the rest of the months at an out of state salon.) read more
