Very odd ambience for a grocery store. All the shelves are packed with stuff but everything is…read moreclearly just thrown in there. There are random carts littered throughout with random items sold for shockingly low prices. As many other people have mentioned, there is a metric fuck ton of dried fish in the back. It doesn't smell as strongly as the rest of the comments say it does though haha The meat was pretty shit though and the avocados we bought sucked

What can I say about Segal's Market? Once upon a time when I was a poor and starving student…read moreliving in Montreal I shopped at Segal's every week. Yes, it's grungy in there, and smells weird, and is full of salty people, but I was able to get bags of groceries that fed me for an entire week for about $10. Admittedly that was a while ago, and I was a vegetarian back then, and I weighed less than 100 lbs, but hey I lived to tell this story. I was back at Segal's this past week, for a stroll down memory lane, and with the exception of some new security cameras and TV screens, it's exactly how I remembered it. It's still poorly lit. The refrigerated sections still have those yellowing plastic curtains. The floors are still dirty and it still smelled weird. Prices are a bit higher, but I would say keeping with inflation. They stock a few more organic items now. The bulk items used to just be in open tubs (like at Bulk Barn, minus the coverings), but are now in plastic garbage/recycling bins, with lids, lol. The "scoops" are plastic water jugs that are tied to the bins. Most are cracked or broken. I found this amusing. This place has apparently been around since 1927. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but I have a soft spot in my heart for its "this is who I am, warts and all, take it or leave it" attitude.

Thank you Hannah's hut for saving so many of my meals!! I came here on a friend's recommendation…read moreand I'm so glad I did! They have some of the freshest, best priced produce anywhere around. Some stuff that's hard to find at IGA and Metro? Bet you Hannah's hut's got it. For a place that looks so small, I've been amazed at how it feels like a Mary poppins bag. Twice now was looking for stuff I couldn't find (coconut shavings, and poppyseed), asked an employee, and a fast moving korean lady would come out the back and find exactly what it is and where in random spots. They pack a lot in those shelves! And stuff I thought I'd only find in Chinatown or Asian grocery stores, they have it pretty much all the major staples here!! Fruits and veggies are fresher here than anywhere else in my opinion. And fresh herbs! Thank God I don't need to learn how to urban plant stuff during lockdown because I suck at keeping succulents alive. They also have some fresh cold pressed juices, an impressive nut display, an entire wall of organic teas, and some korean/Asian prepared foods (kimbap, kimchi, bimbimbap, Vietnamese rolls). They even have some OG Chinese tiger balm and pei pa kao tucked near the bottom of the side of the cash register. They clearly have a more holistic and healthy eating approach with many many choices of gluten free flours and healthy alternatives to most products (like ice cream and frozen meals). Everyone is super nice and they take social distancing and safety seriously even asking some customers to wait when it's busy. A truly wonderful place to shop and get nearly everything you need. Please continue supporting them!

WARNING: COVID-19 Denial / Anti-Vaxx / Anti-Mask ALERT…read more I am the primary caregiver for my 95 year old grandmother so I am exercising a high degree of caution and I am strictly adhering to the recommended public health measures and safety protocols that are in place. I am also friends with a few frontline healthcare workers so I know how extremely difficult the last 21 months have been for my doctor and nurse friends. Okay, so today is Thursday 30th December 2021, and we are at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic ... like it's never been worse than it is now. We've got almost 14,000 official new cases in Quebec today alone and the positivity rate is hovering above 30% ... the Island of Montreal is pretty much one entire hot zone. À Votre Santé is usually a great shop. I am usually a big fan because they have all the health food store stuff I know and love, but today on the front door I notice some Anti-vaxx propaganda. I call and ask what that's all about. I speak to a person named Veronica who goes on to tell me that a lot of unvaccinated people are treated poorly at other businesses and that they are welcome with open arms here. And she brushes off my concerns and invites me to shop at another store. The healthcare system is crumbling and rates of infections are skyrocketing and these folks cannot think beyond the tip of their noses. This is a paramount example of the selfish, deluded and idiotic behaviour and notions that have crippled our society. This is why the end of this pandemic has eluded us. We are all in this together -- Ça va bien aller Get vaccinated, get your booster shot, wear your N95 mask, maintain a physical distance of 2 metres, reduce your contacts to one household bubble and hopefully this will all be over sooner than later.
