I have been patiently waiting for Avril supermarket to open. The last couple of year I have tried to eat more healthy and consciously choose to but organic products as much as I can and as much as my wallet allows me too. The only place close to me was TAU. But now we finally have Avril heathy mostly organic grocery store. First of all they have an amazing variety food of products from fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, they even have fresh organic fish, meat, a huge variety of cheese. They have all sort of foods for vegan and vegetarian people. A variety of gluten free, dairy free products. What really strikes me the most was how many different varieties of the same product they had Olive olive Vinegar Environmental friendly products such as detergent, paper towel Wine & beer Cereal Microwave ready food Frozen meat Fresh meat Canned foods Dairy and non dairy products All sort of international food selection I was really impressed, they also have a nice bistro where you can either order a healthy lunch or a little coffee shop where you can have organic coffee and some very delicious deserts, try they caramel brownie. It was out of this world and you can't even tell what it was actually made of. They also offer you a free membership card, which basically you accumulate 1% of everything you buy there. Last but not least, the prices were very reasonable for the type of store it is, actually some products were even cheaper that your next door grocery's store. Staff was very friendly. Their flyers is once a month. And for the month of June you can order online and get free delivery.

First of all I found the prices to be a little higher than other health food stores I've visited…read more The store is big, but the shelves are empty . Every time I've gone the fruits & vegetables section was almost questionable . They didn't look fresh, the tempatture in the store is to high for these produce I find which makes them all "mooshie" . They don't last very long if you do buy them , maybe a day or 2 before starting to rot . Most sale items are either expired or expiring within a day. I went because it's quiet and they had a specific item that other health stores don't carry. Second of all what started with a good experience ended up in a very bad one. I noticed after my last visit that they had charged extra item on my bill. A 20$ item to be exact!!! ! I didn't notice on the moment since I had bought other things from the "pharmacy" section and didn't "click" why my bill was higher than expected. My mistake was to not check my bill on site, i felt bad for holding up the line . The cashier was alone and she had about 6 other customers behind me. So I rushed ou When I noticed , I went back to advise them of their error and the cashier told me it was highly impossible that she had made a mistake because the item was in the middle of my bill. I tried to explain to her that the lady behind me had the item that was scanned on my bill. She had left it on the counter while she went to get something else in the store and when the cashier put her scanner down it probably scanned the item by accident ( cause store scanners do that if you leave the barcode in front of the red light it scans by itself ( I've worked in many store and this has happened to me by mistake)) . She refused to believe me, told me the manager would check the cameras and call me within a day or two. Never received a call back from the manager . I had to call back numerous times, they never answer the phone . Only once did I get to speak to the same cashier and she said I'll remind the manager and I'll call you back. It's going on two weeks of me calling and never getting an answer . I don't live next door so it's hard for me to go all the way to the stores, cause trust me I would be there everyday until they admit their error. Even if they don't admit it , atleast CALL YOUR CUSTOMER BACK ! It's the least they could of done. Because now it ends with me having a really bad experience with this store because they don't care about their customers. CHECK YOUR BILLS ON SITE , don't care about keeping up the line if it's going to save you your well earned money ! Now the store has charged 2 customers for 1 item and I find that very unfair ! They should be able to see in the inventory that they sold one more than what they actually were holding in store.

On the plus side, there is a very good selection of organic products and healthy oriented food. I…read morewould be careful about the pricing. Several items i had found considerably less expensive in other stores, in particular now that the larger chains are getting into this market. I dropped my rating by a star (from my original 3) due to the fact that there may be a lot of people who have been overcharged for their purchases. The cashier we had charged us tax on some food items. When approached by this oversight , the cashier blamed the cash register. I dont know whose fault it was , but please check your bills before leaving.

There are random carts littered throughout with random items sold for shockingly low prices. As many other people have mentioned, there is a metric fuck ton of dried fish in the back. It doesn't smell as strongly as the rest of the comments say it does though haha The meat was pretty shit though and the avocados we bought sucked

What can I say about Segal's Market? Once upon a time when I was a poor and starving student…read moreliving in Montreal I shopped at Segal's every week. Yes, it's grungy in there, and smells weird, and is full of salty people, but I was able to get bags of groceries that fed me for an entire week for about $10. Admittedly that was a while ago, and I was a vegetarian back then, and I weighed less than 100 lbs, but hey I lived to tell this story. I was back at Segal's this past week, for a stroll down memory lane, and with the exception of some new security cameras and TV screens, it's exactly how I remembered it. It's still poorly lit. The refrigerated sections still have those yellowing plastic curtains. The floors are still dirty and it still smelled weird. Prices are a bit higher, but I would say keeping with inflation. They stock a few more organic items now. The bulk items used to just be in open tubs (like at Bulk Barn, minus the coverings), but are now in plastic garbage/recycling bins, with lids, lol. The "scoops" are plastic water jugs that are tied to the bins. Most are cracked or broken. I found this amusing. This place has apparently been around since 1927. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but I have a soft spot in my heart for its "this is who I am, warts and all, take it or leave it" attitude.
