I'm sad to say that I was appalled at the dreadful service and utter lack of helpfulness or even interest I received from Rachel Scott. I had originally ordered and paid for my wedding dress from Alma Ogilvie. Alma could not have been more interested, patient, or helpful. Unfortunately, however, she retired suddenly (due, I understand, to unforseen circumstances), and passed on her clients to Rachel Scott. Alma had told me that my dress was being made to my size, but when it arrived at Rachel's shop the size was completely wrong. My dress was very expensive, and any alterations were to be included in the price I had paid Alma but the seamstress that Rachel used kept getting it wrong every time, and the quality of her work was very poor.
In the end, in desperation, I had to take my dress to Pan Pan on Buccleuch Street just a few days before my wedding to have it entirely re-altered - and of course pay all over again for this to be done. So much for all my alterations being included in the price I had already paid! I would have been ashamed to be seen in the dress the way Rachel Scott and her seamstress left it! But the proprietor at Pan Pan was wonderful, and rescued a very shoddy piece of work so willingly and cheerfully despite the very short notice, and restored it to the beautiful dress I had originally dreamed of back at Alma Ogilvie's.
While at Alma's we had discussed, but not decided on, what length of veil I was going to have - she had assured me that I could choose long or medium length nearer the time. But when I became Rachel's customer that had completely changed, and Rachel gave me no choice but to take the full-length veil. As it happened I ended up very happy with this length bit did not appreciate having the choice taken from me despite being told when I paid that I could have either.
Before I realised just how sub-standard my experience with Rachel was going to be I had tried a decorative headpiece in her shop to go with my veil, with a comb attachment. Rachel did let me take it home to try it on with my dress there as the couple of times I tried on my dress in her shop she just seemed in a hurry to get me out of there and I felt very uncomfortable taking up her time. But when I decided that this was the headpiece I wanted she said that she would not be able to order a new one in time, but that if I wanted this one I would still have to pay the full price even though it was a demonstration headpiece tried on over and over again in her shop and very shop-soiled (i.e. the comb from being stuck into countless people's hair!). I loved the design and was running out of time so felt I had no choice but to agree. This certainly provided my something old for my wedding but I certainly didn't appreciate having to pay full-price on what was a used and worn item. Very unprofessional.
It's three years ago now since I got married yet the horror of my experience with Rachel Scott is still with me every time I think of my wedding dress. I still actually feel sick at the memory, and it has taken me this long to steel myself to go through it again in my mind and write this review. Thanks to Pan Pan my dress did end up beautiful and the right fit and correct length but this was no thanks to Rachel or her seamstress. I would not recommend Rachel Scott to anyone perhaps she gives professional and quality service if you are her customer right from the start, but for someone in my situation who had been passed on to her from Alma Ogilvie, all I can say is that she almost ruined my wedding. read more
