I actually bought my wedding dress here, but am still giving it one star as I kick myself to spending money here. I came here because they were having a sample sale. Weddings are expensive, wedding dresses are exorbitant, so any money off is a good thing. I also wanted to come here because there were gorgeous dresses displayed in the window. Gorgeous dresses + sale seemed like a good plan. First of all, I filled out an online form via their website to make an appointment. I received no response, so emailed directly. I got a response asking what time of day I would like my appointment, but then never got a response to my reply email. I was going to write Kavelle off once and for all when my bridesmaid phoned and was able to confirm my appointment. The day of, I arrived on time and rang the bell for entry, and waited. And waited. And waited. I rang a few times and spent quite a bit of time waiting before I was let in. I was allocated Kavelle's mother as my dressing attendant and this is where things started going seriously downhill. She was uninterested, sullen and gruff, and so careless that she stepped on the train of several dresses I tried on. The dressing rooms were dark and dingy and they mixed up my dress choices with a girl in another room. As I was trying on dresses, she was snapping at one of the emplpyees, and was generally the exact kind of person who should NOT work in a bridal store. In other stores, I'd had to wear white gloves before touching the dresses but here they didn't care how dirty your hands were or how much fake tan someone might be wearing (as evidenced by just how filthy my dress was when I got it). Additional carelessness was shown by the rip in the back of the dress which the drycleaner suggested was a result of someone stepping on the train. Surprise surprise. I found a dress that I loved but to that point had had such a horrific experience that I didn't want to spend my money there. I tried to consult with my friend but Kavelle's mother hovered around us as though she expected I'd bolt with the dress. I finally decided to take a leap of faith and buy the dress. When I went to pay, I was shocked to discover that they don't take credit or debit cards. This is a bridal store where most of the dresses are close to if not more than £1,000. Who has that kind of money just laying around? You've got to pay a 50% deposit in order to secure the dress and can pay the rest later but still I ask, who has the kind of money?? And surely they should tell people that before they get customers deciding that they have found THE wedding dress?? Unable to take out enough money to pay for the dress all at once, I had to leave it at the store and return at a later date to pay the difference. About a week later, The Man was in the neighborhood and I asked if he could pay the difference and pick it up for me. I called Kavelle to say he was on his way and could she please put the dress in a box so he wouldn't see it. When he arrived, he actually had to phone the store as, despite the fact they were expecting him, they weren't answering the door. He informed me of all of this when he got home, and said that when he arrived, Kavelle pulled the dress off the rack and informed him that she would be putting it in a box so he couldn't see. She pulled it off the rack IN FRONT OF HIM. She effectively presented it to him as she told him he wasn't allowed to see it. I was flabbergasted. I remember leaving the store after just purchasing my wedding dress, almost in tears. It was such a negative experience, I hated the fact that I ultimately bought my dress there. I absolutely wouldn't recommend Kavelle to anyone. Buying your wedding dress should be a fun and exciting experience, you shouldn't be close to tears as you leave the store. read more

The minute I entered Kavelle I was greeted by the owner also called Kavelle in such a friendly helpful manner. I told her straight away what I was looking for and the price range I didn't want to exceed and she selected a few dresses she thought would be suitable along with some I liked. Other dress shops I had been to previous to this had not seemed to listen so intently to my specifications and I found Kavelles approach refreshing. The dress I selected was beautiful, ready to try on before the allotted 6 weeks and any final alterations were prompt. Kavelles mother also made me a bolero in record time and it was the perfect addition to my look. In reading the previous review which was negative I am confused to why, if you had such a bad experience, you would go ahead and buy a dress? The place was certainly not dingy, the reason you ring the bell and wait to get in is because it is appointment only, which adds to the personal touch, and in none of the dress shops I went into (which were many, varying from less expensive to very expensive) did I have to wear white gloves? The dresses in Kavelle were certainly not grubby! I don't think anyone would buy a wedding dress somewhere, and pay that money if they were not happy with the dress and service? Both Kavelle and her mum remained friendly and helpful throughout my experience and I would recommend future brides check out her beautiful shop and dresses. I looked amazing on my big day and recieved so many compliments for my dress and bolero, it really was a great experience. read more

I couldn't recommend Kavelle highly enough. I agree with the last review that this is a place where you are made to feel like you matter. Kavelle is a fantastic bridal shop with an excellent selection of dresses and a personal and friendly atmosphere. When I first started looking for wedding dresses I didn't know what to expect and was slightly taken aback by the approach in a lot of the shops, as it was often the case that I felt that I was just a price tag or was one in many standing in line waiting to try on the same dress and fight for mirror space. Therefore, it was a breath of fresh air when I turned up for my appointment at Kavelle and I was the only one there. I was able to take my time to look around the shop and try on as many dresses as I liked. While I already had an idea of what I was looking for, Kavelle and her mother offered great advice and helped pull together all the various pieces to create the perfect wedding outfit. It was also extremely reassuring to know that both Kavelle and her mother design and make dresses. I had heard stories about shop assistants promising dresses could be altered in certain ways, but when it came to the dress fittings what the sales assistants had advised wasn't correct. Knowing that both Kavelle and her mother have so much experience in making and designing wedding dresses was a huge relief and I knew I was is safe hands. Kavelle has updated me throughout the whole process and made the experience of buying and altering my wedding dress a stress-free and friendly experience. I couldn't be happier with my wedding dress and I couldn't recommend Kavelle highly enough for their excellent, friendly and extremely thoughtful service. read more

TREATED LIKE A PRINCESS AT KAVELLE The shop is large. Very spacious on the main floor with lots of mirrors, a massive selection of dresses and most importantly Kavelle and the team who are professional and seemed to know exactly what would look good on me even though the dresses they suggested were my main choices! Before going to the shop I had many emails back and forth about dress designs, stockist and as a busy shop I didn't expect a answer right away, I did get replies within 24 hours though. We went in on Saturday and we were greeted by a lovely sales assistant who sat us down, asked us a few questions about the styles and designers that we had discussed over the emails. We then got a chance to go through the dresses and pick a few more to try on. After 40 minutes we narrowed the dresses down to two, my sister started to speak with Kavelle and she offered some great ideas, with style changing, altering as they design and make there own dresses too. Out of the two dresses there was a beautiful lace fishtail dress in which we all knew when I had it on the 1st time, that it was the one!! My family were all so happy as we have been to a lot of shops looking for "the dress". After choosing the dress I did make a few changes from the original style and I cannot be more delighted! My Best friend, Sister and Mum all had a relaxed time and did not feel pushed or rushed. There was another two groups in the shop at the same time and all seemed to be having a good time. You will not be disappointed! read more

I only tried one other dress shop in Edinburgh and was not impressed with them. A few weeks later I got a recommendation to go here and I'm so happy I did. Unlike my first experience I wasn't told that I could only choose a certain number of dresses to try on. I was also the only person in the shop for the entire hour (or 90 min?) of my appointment. Also unlike some of the other reviews on here, I got to look through all of samples and choose whatever I wanted to try on and didn't feel pressured to buy anything. I ended up with the dress I saw on the manikin when I first walked in because I loved it. It also happened to be a lot cheaper and much nicer than my favourite from the first shop! Wedding dresses aren't the cheapest and you definitely get what you pay for in quality. Both Kavelle and her mom were really nice and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

I am no expert on Wedding dress shops, although I have been to almost every single on in Edinburgh by now, but my experience at Kavelle was definitely the low point of finding a wedding dress. The service was terrible. I was made to feel unwanted, unimportant and like I wasn't worth their time. In fact, when we came in for our appointment they didn't even bother to ascertain which one of me or my two bridesmaids was actually the bride. I wasn't helped when trying on the dresses, they simply zipped me up when I got out of the, tiny, dressing room. No-one chatted kindly about my "big day" in fact no-one chatted to me at all whilst I was trying on the dresses, even after my cheerful attempts at small talk. I'm ashamed to say that when I left the shop I was almost in tears. I would recommend that all brides avoid this shop, its not even as though the dresses are cheap so they have a small excuse for appalling service. Also, and I can only speak for the lace dresses, the quality is not as good as in other shops. There are plenty of wedding dress shops in Edinburgh who will treat you kindly and even be excited with you! Finding your wedding dress should be a fun if not special experience. You will not get that here. I felt the need to share this with people as I would never want anyone to feel the same way I did that day. If I could give it 0 stars I would. read more

I am getting married in March 2012 and I have visited all the Bridal shops in Edinburgh. My experience at Kavelle wasn't very pleasant. I was given dresses to try which weren't what I had in mind and I felt pressured to buy the dress they recommended. read more

I am delighted with how easy it was to find my wedding dress with the help of Kavelle. I only went wedding dress shopping for the first time last Saturday and already I have my dress. This is not the speed at which I usually make decisions and I was nervous the whole process would be much harder than the fun and easy process it has been. Kavelle was the first shop I called of 3 to make an appointment for that day- exactly 52 weeks to the day of the wedding. Kavelle was on my list of 3 shops I wanted to go to due to my sister in law having purchased her dress here last year and telling me what a great service she had received. A quick call and my appointment was made. So the day of shopping arrived. Kavelle was the first appointment of the day. I arrived with my mum and all 4 bridesmaids. I was unsure as to whether it would be frowned upon to take so many people with me to the appointments but none of the 3 shops we visited seemed to mind at all. I rang the bell and was quickly let into the shop and given a friendly welcome. It was so exciting to be in my first wedding dress shop and see all the amazing dresses. I had come with a very open mind and had no idea of what I was looking for- hence why I think this might be a long process. The assistant that greeted me, I didn't catch her name, told me to have a good look through the dresses, pick a few I would like to try on and we would take it from there. Straight away my eyes were drawn to a gorgeous "princess" dress. Not at all what I thought I would suit but decided that I had to try it on. My bridesmaids helped me pick another 3 dresses and then I was directed to a large changing room to begin trying them on. I tried the princess dress on first and wow!!! I LOVED it! I felt like a bride instantly and straight away could picture the big day a lot clearer. I couldn't take the smile off my face. My mum and bridesmaids agreed that it was an amazing dress but eventually persuaded me to take it off as obviously this was the first of many I would be trying on today haha. I tried on the other 3 but no matter how pretty they were they didn't compare. I met Kavelle for the first time at this point and she told me that the dress was in fact on sale and there was a fantastic reduction on it. I left the shop excited that I had already found a fab dress but careful not to close my mind off at the other two appointments. Not once the rest of the day did any other dress I tried on compare. We all had a lovely day at the other appointments and a fun lunch but I was so keen to go back to Kavelle and try on the dress again. The shop is only 10 minuted from my work so I called the shop on Monday morning and was delighted when Kavelle said it would be no problem to come in at lunch and try on the dress again. My mum was luckily free to pop from work also so along we went at lunch time. Kavelle herself greeted us this time helped me get the dress on and instantly I decided that this was my dress!!! I kept the dress on for a while whilst Kavelle let me try a variety of gorgeous veils and boleros and adjusted the dress to give me a better idea what it will look like after the fittings. I paid a deposit there and then for my dress. I now can't wait to go back in December for my 1st fitting and feel very calm knowing that Kavelle and her mum have a great deal of experience and know exactly what they are talking about when it comes to making the dress perfect. Every Edinburgh bride should visit Kavelle when they begin their search. read more

In a nutshell: Great customer service and lovely dresses. I have driven past this shop for years and always admired the dresses in the window. So I had to make an appointment here when I was shopping for my wedding dress. What I can say about the shop is that the dresses are beautiful and they have a good selection of different styles - Kavelle also make and design their own dresses if that is what you are looking for. I didn't go for this option and so can only comment on the quality of the alterations - which were excellent. But for me the best thing was the customer service. I am not a great shopper and was glad to have my sister with me - but Kavelle was brilliant, I tried on a few different dresses and she really had an eye for what suited me - in the end I went for a dress that she recommended (that I may not have picked myself) and I love it!! Kavelle was not the fanciest shop I went in when shopping for dresses, however, for me that is not the most important thing about shopping! I went in other shops where the decor was more modern and they offered tea etc, but the service was no where near as good and they didn't have so many dresses. So, I would recommend Kavelle to anyone. read more

Kavelle was the fourth wedding dress shop that I went into and was the last one that I was intending to visit in my search for a wedding dress. I had a feeling as soon as I entered the shop that I would be buying my wedding dress here. The staff were very welcoming when I entered the shop and the number of dresses to choose from was just right. One of the wedding dress shops that I visited had too few dresses and another had too many dresses tightly squeezed together which was not only overwhelming but frustrating as I it was not easy to see the dresses on the rail. Not only was the number of dresses right but the dresses to choose from were beautiful. Elegant and classy is how I would sum up the dresses that I saw in the shop. I had no pre conceived idea of what my wedding dress should look like but I did know what styles I suited best from having tried dresses on in three other wedding dress shops. I selected a few dresses to try on and Kavelle took what I had said in terms of style to pull out another wedding dress for me to try, which is the one I went for in the end. On my first visit, I had run out of time (as I had another appointment I had to get to) and I was undecided between two beautiful dresses that I had narrowed my choice down to. Instead of making me feel pressured to make a choice, Kavelle suggested that I return for another appointment when I had more time. She was also very honest in terms of stating that her dress prices would be somewhere in between two of the shops that I had visited which meant that my expectations were managed well. Kavelle's mother was also really nice and the consummate professional when it came to my dress fittings. She made me feel at ease and adjusted the dress to my requirements. I have recommended others to go to Kavelle for their wedding dresses and will continue to do so. My experience of buying a dress here was simply first class. RB read more

There's a reason why this store has been in business so long. They are just amazing! I have been in a few times, and finally ordered my dress. I'm so excited and cannot wait until my dress is in. The service here is excellent. The ladies are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. It is daunting, ordering a dress as I've heard horror stories from other friends and stores about pushy saleswomen. Not here! They were happy to let me try on a selection of dresses of my choice and they selected a few themselves and even afterwards I still picked out a few more. Even when I returned to see "the one" I still tried on another 2 that were in my top 5. It was nice that they wanted me to be 100% sure. Again, you girls are amazing and I will recommend to all my family and friends xx read more

I purchased my dress in Kavelle in November and I couldn't have had a better experience. My sister phoned the store to make the appointment and easily arranged one. I was reassured from the start as my sister said the lady she spoke to on the phone was really lovely. This made me feel much more confident as I had been nervous about trying on dresses. The shop is really beautiful and there is a wide range of dresses to choose from. I showed the girl who was helping us (it wasn't Kavelle at this point, I can't remember the name of who it was) some pictures of styles I liked and she pulled some that were similar from the rails. My family and I also had a look and chose some. The girl helping me into the dresses was so friendly and supportive. I found a dress that I really loved. At that point I didn't feel ready to make a decision as it was only the first shop (and third dress) I had tried. The girl explained that there was a discount for buying on the day, but we didn't feel at all pressured to make a quick decision. I made another appointment for 2 weeks later and they were absolutely fine about me trying on the dress again. When we returned it was Kavelle herself helping us. As soon as I put the dress on the second time I was convinced it was my dress. Kavelle could not have been nicer or more helpful. She talked me through alterations she could make to the straps and neckline of the dress so it was exactly what I had imagined, and she gave me lots of great advice about accessories etc. She really made me feel confident and at home, chatting about my wedding and showing us pictures of her children's birthday party etc. The shop had such a lovely calm, happy environment. I was also totally struck by how professional and efficient it was. I will be able to see my dress in May (or thereabouts) and I am confident I will have more positive feedback then. Between myself and my sister I have been in five bridal shops in Edinburgh, and Kavelle really stood out for me. I feel for the ladies below who seem not to have had good experiences for whatever reason, but as a recent customer I can say with total confidence that I completely recommend Kavelle. read more

I had a terrible experience at Kavelle last Saturday. I'm a mature bride and went along feeling self concious as it was. I had a miserable experience with an assistant (not sure if it was Kavelle's mother) who was totally disinterested in me. She almost threw the wedding dresses into the changing cubicle and didn't have any pins ready although the dresses were to big for me, particularly on the bust. The assistants seemed more interested in the two other young brides who were there and I felt like a second class citizen. While I was changing the sales assistants were discussing the other brides saying that one of them was "probably going to walk". The only time the assistant smiled was when I left the shop with my bridesmaids. I felt like I was on a conveyor belt. Other bridal shops have been extremely helpful and cheerful and more than willing to help dress me, allowing 2 hours or all the time I needed. this appointment was rushed with brides arriving every hour. Every other bridal shop has had pleasant and helpful staff and I would recommend the all the other shops I have tried. I asked about a dress which was on a mannequin and was told that i had already tried a dress like that. The assistant was really unwilling to look for dresses which would suit me. I found a dress which was not perfect but I liked better than the others and was told that this was "a cheaper dress" although it was almost £1,300. In the end I adore the beautiful dress I have bought elsewhere at almost half the price. I cannot emphasise enough what a terrible experience I had at Kavelle. I did email Kavelle herself about this and she was extremely apologetic. I do think that she needs to ensure that her service improves as I would recommend other brides to avoid this shop and feel very strongly about this. I would not recommend this experience to anyone. read more

sorry but I have to agree with Emily, I felt I was ripped off with pricing and not told the correct amount until I had already paid half my balance! then told I was an extra 50 on each of my bridesmaid dresses for kavelles mum to alter them! this was not said at the purchase of the dresses! I left in tears as I was purchasing 4 dresses for bridesmaids! I called my mum crying saying I can't believe this there saying I'm still due 200 on top of my bill as they forgot to tell me! very convenient to put some1 in a catch where they have already paid half there balance, if I really thought about my wedding long enough and hadn't let excitement take over me! then no id have never purchased from kavelles, misunderstanding, over priced! read more

My daughter, her sister and myself visited the Brandon Terrace shop on Saturday and were very unhappy with the whole experience. We had been to another bridal shop that morning where we were made to feel very welcome and the whole experience was magical which is what it should be when you are buying a wedding dress. However, this was not the case at Kavelle. On entering the shop we were told to find 5 dresses that she would like to try on. My daughter had to get into the dresses herself and as there was no mirror in the changing room she only saw the dress when she came out to show her sister and I. The lady made no effort to speak to my daughter and she felt vey uncomfortable the whole time. My daughter tried on the 5 dresses and there was one she liked but we would certainly not be buying anything from a shop where the service was extremely poor. She was not asked if she would like to try on anything else and the assistant did not bring her anything else either unlike the other shop. We were in the shop for no more than 30 minutes and other bridal shops have been 1 hour appointments and we are usually over that. We would certainly not recommend Kavelle to anyone. read more

Just a little update, the dress has been picked up!! I collected my dress and veil, felt like a princess :) the dress fit perfectly, I can't compliment the alterations enough. I just can't wait for the big day in a month to show it off! Please don't think twice about going to see Kavelle, the selection, fitting and service is all top class. read more

As the five star rating would indicate, this was as good as it gets ! My daughter and I arrived half an hour late for our appointment and were really impressed by the manner in which we were greeted when we did arrive. My daughter had called to advise she was running late and was told it 'was not a problem'. Arriving at the shop at 4.30p.m. on Saturday did not seem to give us much time , however the relaxed, friendly and professional service we got put us completely at ease. Firstly the overall atmosphere was great, beautiful surroundings and well laid out rails of dresses. Easy to have a look through as not all jammed in. Kavelle was my daughters dress advisor and was brilliant, taking plenty time over each dress that she had selected to try on. Compared to other shops we had visited the standard of dresses was first class, all beautiful and in pristine condition. As soon as my daughter tried on the very last dress she knew immediately that this was at last 'The One' !! after two months of looking in many shops in Glasgow, Edinburgh and a few others in surrounding areas she had finally found exactly what she was looking for. Our whole experience was everything we had hoped and imagined it should be and a bit more ! mainly down to Kavelle. We left the shop at 5.45 ( not hurried at all in any way) and my daughter was just over the moon and so excited that she had found 'The Dress '!. Many thanks to all for such a memorable , enjoyable and exciting experience. Angela & Kylie Hendrie 22nd February 2014 read more

I recently bought my wedding dress from Kavelle and was really impressed with the service and welcome attitude from both Kavelle and her mum. the fact you ring a bell for entry is a bonus making the service more personal once you are in there. at times you may have to wait a minute but this means they haven't totally abandoned a bride to be just to rush to the door. One of the first dresses I tried on was strapless, beautiful but I did not want strapless. without any trouble, Kavelles mum has 'run up' straps on the machine that were pinned on to give me an idea how the dress could be adjusted. Not the dress I eventually bought but what a fantastic service. the only downside i could see was that it was difficult to see the back of the dress. maybe their new premise will have room to position mirros in such a way you can see the front and back at the same time. read more

Noticed this review and thought Id share my experience as I also bought a dress from Kavelle as an ex-sample. Ive known Kavelle for over a year now as I bought my dress in January 2011 and got married in April 2012. Like Emily H (above) I was keen to go for a dress in the sale as we had a budget and I had always admired the dresses in the window. My best friend got married 6 months earlier and wed been to several dress stores then and I remember being put off by the sheer amount of big dresses there were and the lack of dresses shaped to fit smaller busted women like me. Kavelle was a revelation. The store inside is so much bigger than youd think and there was a huge range of non-meringue dresses. My two friends helped me select about 6 dresses to try and then with the help of Kavelles mother I tried them all on. The dresses were stunning and I found that Kavelle and her mum (who were also dealing with a second client at the time) were very helpful and attentive. They also gave me and my friends space to appreciate the dresses and chat about our thoughts. They offered me a variety of accessories to try with the dressed and discussed options of amending things if need be. I felt they were very honest with their feedback and were not pushy at all. The dress I bought was the second dress I tried on and it literally took my friends breaths away. It was a lace Manuel Mota Pronovias dress and it was gorgeous. The quality of the lace was fantastic and I was very impressed when Kavelles mum talked about the alterations I would need (which involved hand cutting the lace to reduce the length and then re-sewing it by hand). She certainly knew her stuff and I felt comfortable buying a dress from them. Before we bought the dress Kavelle went over the dress very closely and pointed out a couple of marks on the dress as it was ex-display. She offered suggestions about how we could clean them up by hand if we wanted but to be honest they were so small and barely noticeable I decided to leave them. Over the year I saw Kavelle at a couple of Wedding Shows and she was always warm and friendly and took time to find out how my wedding plans were going. When it came to getting my dress altered Kavelles mum did a fantastic job. She got it exactly right first time and it fitted like a glove. On my wedding day I got so many compliments about my dress, it was fantastic to wear and actually very comfortable (at a family wedding last year my sister in law to be had her dress far too tight and struggled to eat when sitting down so I was a bit worried about that). I was able to enjoy my day to the full and dance into the early hours. While at my wedding my friend accidentally stood on the back of my dress and pulled the lace layer away when the dress was in its tied up form. I took the dress back to Kavelle yesterday and asked them to look at it and see if they could fix it. Kavelles mum spotted the problem right away and sorted it out as we waited. She spotted the lace was slightly torn in one place (which I hadnt spotted myself before) and got that sorted too. She clearly knew my dress and the material very well. I would recommend Kavelle to anyone as I had a great experience. Never had a problem calling them and never got left on the doorstep either. If you like the look of the dresses I urge you to book an appointment and visit, I doubt you will be disappointed! read more

I was struggling to find a wedding dress suited to my tastes and kept trying dresses on that were just "ok" parts I like and parts I didnt...so when I came across Kavelles on the internet and noticed they do bespoke dresses to suit I thought excellent, just what I need!! Booked an appointment using their online application form which I got a response from the very next day, few emails back and forth from Kavelle and the appointment was made, no problems whatsoever! Went along for my first fitting and honestly youd have thought Kavelle had known me and was my friend for many years, such a personal welcome you get from her, you get her the same way everytime too, she is such a lovely person. After having a look at some of her dresses on the rack which again where lovely but parts i liked parts I didnt I showed her my ideas of what I liked...and within literally 5 mins Kavelle had designed "MY" dress...I instantly fell in love with the design. Real talent and really understands what your looking for and listens to your ideas. The first time I went back for my first proper dress fitting and to see the dress, to my surprise I found out that Jaspel (Kavelles Mum) was the one to actually make the dress - which can I just say is absolutely stunning and made with such great attention to detail, she is a fantastic dressmaker and I would not have the perfect and beautiful dress if it wasn't for her and i can honestly say I wouldnt want to work with anyone else. If your wanting the kind of service where its so posh your asked to put gloves on before you even touch a gown then Kavelle is not the place for you, and ive been in some really nice bridal stores and not once have I been asked to wear gloves, however if you want a true personal service with people who genuinly care about making you feel happy, comfortable and giving you the best possible dress for you then I would suggest you take a trip along and make your own judgements, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I have been so lucky planning my wedding and have came across so many amazing suppliers that im am really struggling to decide which are my top three for the vow awards, Kavelle is most definately in my top 3. From a very happy and excited bride, cannot wait to see the end result...:) xxxx read more

Wow. What an amazing experience from start to... Oh wait, not finish yet because I'VE ORDERED MY DRESS! I emailed Kavelle to make an appointment, and she tried on a couple of occasions to phone me but I was at work, so I got an email reply offering a couple of dates. I phoned Kavelle back and in no time I had confirmed my appointment. Kavelle's mother let us into the shop for my appointment, which I showed up over an hour early for! But that was no problem :-). I rang the doorbell once and it was answered promptly. We were all introduced, and I was told to have a look and pick out 6 or so dresses to try on. Kavelle came out and looked after me personally for the whole appointment, with mum popping in and out with heartfelt compliments. Kavelle is a beautiful person, very warm and friendly. I felt right at ease and she indulged my bridal wants before showing me how amazing my dress could look with the right veil and accessories. There are loads of dresses to choose from, and a lovely big area to waltz around it them in front of big mirrors. Kavelle and her mum do all of the alterations in house and they even said they could get me fabric for making my own BM dresses. I tried "my" dress on first but I knew with every other one I tried on that hey were no match. I'm over the moon and I can't wait to go back! Kavelle don't take any payment cards, so I had to pay for my deposit in cash but that was fine. I felt that the gowns probably fell into mid to high end price bracket, but my veil, dress and alterations will still be within my budget all in. It just depends what you're willing to spend. I felt that the level of service and Kavelle's genuine interest in me and my wedding was so good that I wouldn't look any further for my dress or veil, that's what make good business. A personal service and a beautiful shop. I can't recommend this bridal shop highly enough, and I'm soooo looking forward to visiting Kavelle in her new premises for my fittings when they come around! read more

Kavelle Bridal is one of those rare places where you are treated as if you actually matter. Having had some difficult and awkward experiences with other shops in and around Edinburgh when trying to arrange things for my upcoming wedding, I was delighted to find Kavelle's approach down-to-earth, personal, kind and friendly. After some experiences in places where the product or the budget seemed to be more important than the person, Kavelle put my mind at rest and took all the worry out of a huge part of the wedding plans. I went to Kavelle as I know from friends and family that she and her mother design and make unusual wedding dresses and I had something specific and different in mind. I wasn't sure if it would even be possible, but on my first trip to the shop, Kavelle immediately reassured me that what I wanted was not only possible, but did not need to break the bank as I had feared it might. She and her mother were polite and helpful at all times when making arrangements and suggestions and never stopped complimenting me on how I looked in the dress. They have fantastic visualisation and immediately came up with a wonderful way to make my idea better than I could have imagined. The result is stunning and totally unique. Kavelle kept me updated throughout the process and went out of her way to make sure that everything was as convenient and easy as possible for me. This was a big help because, as many people will no doubt also have found, wedding planning can be a stressful and busy time. My dress is even better than I had hoped and I couldn't be more thrilled. I'm so glad I went to Kavelle Bridal as I know that she understood my vision from the very beginning and she made the dream come true. I would recommend the store to all brides and, whether you are after something traditional or unusual, you are guaranteed personal, attentive and helpful service that will only add to the pleasure of your wedding planning. read more

Wow. What an amazing experience from start to Oh wait, not finish yet because I'VE ORDERED MY DRESS! Jaspal, Kavelle's mother let us into the shop for my appointment, which I showed up over an hour early for! But that was no problem :-). I rang the doorbell once and it was answered promptly. We were all introduced, and I was told to have a look and pick out 6 or so dresses to try on. Kavelle came out and looked after me personally for the whole appointment, with Jaspal popping in and out with heartfelt compliments. Kavelle is a beautiful person, very warm and friendly. I felt right at ease and she indulged my bridal wants before showing me how amazing my dress could look with the right veil and accessories. I cannot recommend kavelle enough!! After searching for weeks for a dress in Glasgow, Hamilton, Inverness & finally Edinburgh I'm so glad that Emma Roy were so disappointing and couldn't find the detachable train for the dress I was buying. I left Emma Roy that day feeling pretty gutted and happened to pass by kavelle, the window looked so nice and classy, I decided just to nip in for a look. I pressed the bell and was greeted by kavelle herself who politely said she had an appointment in but I could have a look round....so that's what I did and I spotted "the" dress within minutes! Kavelle could see how much I liked it and said I could try it on as the lady she had in didn't mind, I decided there and then that it was " the one" ,kavelle helped me out a little with the price to bring it within my budget, I could not believe what a fantastic personal service I received, and to top it off as I did not have the 50 % deposit that day kavelle accepted a deposit of 20 % and I paid the rest up!! I now have my dress which I had taken in for alterations when I was expecting to leave my dress and have to go back for it at a later date, however kavelle knew I wasn't local so brought me a coffee and altered it while I waited! Now if that's not good service I don't know what is! You can see by the start of my review I have been to a lot of bridal shops from Inverness to Edinburgh and none of them matched up to the service of kavelle ! A beautiful family and great team! I felt so comfortable throughout the whole experience and it was a very relaxed and fun experience and always greeted with a lovely smile! Thank you do much I can't wait for my big day! After reading some of the reviews on here I just really wanted to highlight the wonderful treatment I received at Kavelle (Brandon Terrace store)! The staff were always accommodating, often fitting me in at the last minute and never once making me feel like a nuisance for it. Their advice was not only helpful and sound, but extensive, often considering aspects of the dress I may not have thought of. They had endless patience and were never pushy. Their collection was sublime - their shop is filled with beautifully made dresses that shout elegance and sophistication. Not only do they do all their own alterations but they also make beautiful garments from scratch, meaning that of all the shops in Edinburgh, I had never felt in safer hands! These ladies really know what they are talking about. Unfortunately, in the end my dream dress was not among their collection, but this did not result in any coldness from Kavelle. They were happy for me to double check the dresses I had liked from their store and displayed no hard feelings when I chose a dress from elsewhere. I would absolutely recommend them, and will certainly be considering them to make my bridesmaids dresses! After reading some of the reviews on here, I very almost didn't visit Kavelle - what a massive mistake that would have been! In my search for a dress I visited over 15 stores in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, so I feel informed enough to say that Kavelle is by far one of the best Bridal stores in Edinburgh with some of the most competent and pleasant staff around. Don't miss it! read more

What a great experience and I cannot belive that I did not try Kavelle earlier! I am not into the whole review thing but I thought I would share the great experience I got from the minute I walked into the boutique. I have been looking for a dress for over two months now and have had my heart set on looking for a lace dress with crystal. I have been in many shops and just cannot seem to find one that suits my figure. Firstly I was wowed when I walked into Kavelle, their boutique has so much space and a great selection. As I experienced in other shops, the lace dresses that I liked just did not look that great on me. I was advised by Kavelle herself to try on a few dresses of her choice as she said that there were some that would really compliment my figure. I was given a satin/silk dress with a lot of ruching, looked lovley but I didnt think I would like it. I nearly burst into tears when I tried it on as I could not belive how good the dress looked like on me. As lace was my preference Kavelle suggested I could have lace and crystals along the top of the bodice and sketched a drawing of the dress with the extras. This is a additional service but it looked just perfect, I was also shown swatches of lace. I have arranged to go back with my mother and bridesmaids. Cant wait! Overall the experience I have had from Kavelle Bridal has been 10/10 with there expert advise and knowlege. I would recommend to anyone.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. read more

I got married last month and just wanted to say what a fantastic experience I had buying my dress from Kavelle. I was quite nervous before going dress shopping but Kavelle was amazing and put me at ease straight away. I knew that I wanted a dress that was simple, elegant and timeless and the selection of dresses that Kavelle had did not disappoint. Kavelle really knows what will suit your figure and encouraged me to try on lots of different dresses but my mum, Kavelle and I all knew when I tried on 'the one'. We had a highland wedding in the North of Scotland with lots of ceilidh dancing so I knew that I wanted a dress with straps and Kavelle was great at showing me where the most flattering strap sits on your shoulder and demonstrating how various different dresses that I tried on could have straps added to them if I wished. I am so glad that I got my wedding dress from Kavelle as not only did I get the perfect dress but I also made a friend in Kavelle. I live in Glasgow and Kavelle went out of her way to help me with appointments that worked in with me travelling across to Edinburgh. I would not hesitate to recommend Kavelle to any bride who is looking for the perfect dress. I felt amazing on my wedding day and my dress fitted perfectly. No bride should miss going to Kavelle I give Kavelle the full 5 stars! read more

Myself and one of my bridesmaids visited Kavelle for their sale a couple of weeks ago and we had such a memorable and enjoyable time that I had to write a glowing review. I was excited but apprehensive about my very first experience of trying on wedding dresses but from the moment I stepped inside, the lovely shop assistant put me at ease. Kavelle herself came over, introduced herself and showed us around. Within minutes myself and my bridesmaid had found 6 dresses we liked and I went to the changing room. Kavelle helped me into the first dress and brought shoes and a stool for me to stand on. The dress was an absolutely gorgeous La Sposa gown and she pinned it to show me how it could be altered to fit me better. I couldn't believe it was half price and in excellent condition. Throughout our appointment Kavelle was attentive, genuinely interested and pleasantly charming and made the whole experience relaxing and fun. I think I've found the dress of my dreams - the first one I tried on - and will return at the beginning of next month to show my Mom and sister-in-law.... Cannot wait! Really looking forward to going back - Thanks Kavelle! I'd thoroughly recommend you! read more

I found my shopping experience at Kavelle wonderful. The shop was quiet and intimate and you were made to feel so special. My mum, bridesmaid and myself arrived at the shop hoping to find THE dress. And I did. Kavelle and her mother left us to peruse the rails but then asked if she too could choose something to suit my size and shape. Needless to say, the dress she picked for me was the first I tried on and WOW. It was amazing. Kavelle was attentive and helped me into the dress and made sure I was pinned in and comfortable; she gave me shoes too wear so that I could get a feel for the dress and look. My mum and bridesmaid were in tears (of joy) when I came from the dressing room and when I caught sight of myself in the mirror I knew this was the dress for me. Since I purchased the dress, I have been back for fitting and bought the accessories to go with the dress. Kavelle has kept me up to date (via email and calls) on progress and was helpful when it came to me moving dates. Everytime Mum and I have been back to the shop, Kavelle has been warm and inviting. I highly recommend that brides visit Kavelle as the service is second to none. read more

After hunting for my perfect wedding dress in every shop in Glasgow, I decided to take a final shopping trip to Edinburgh before making my mind up. I'm so glad I took the time to visit Kavelle. Not only is the shop spacious and calm, but every single dress I tried on (at least 5 or 6!) was spectacular and would hands-down beat any dress I had tried previously. Kavelle was amazing not pushy in the slightest and even saved the best dress until last as she knew exactly what I was looking for. There was no hard sales push as there is in so many other shops. Kavelle even suggested I ordered a slightly smaller size so that there were minimal alterations something that many other shops cash in on and suggest ordering a bigger size! After ordering, my dress arrived exactly as advised by Kavelle and there was no problem for her holding onto it for a few weeks until I could schedule a trip to Edinburgh for my first fitting. Exactly as suggested by Kavelle, there were no alterations needed at all! A very pleasant service for quite a stressful task and I would highly recommend Kavelle to everyone! After ordering read more

My daughter and I had watched all the wedding tv shows and were all set for the Kleinfelds New York experience. We visited several shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow only to be disappointed either by lack of choice, crushed, uncomfortable surroundings or poor service and in some cases by all of the above! Well Kavelle saved the day. Right from the first email we felt that this bridal shopping experience may be what we were looking for. How right we were. Everything was absolutely perfect! The gorgeous shop and luxurious surroundings, the fabulous dresses well displayed and easy to see, the excellent service from Kavelle herself. The whole group of bride, mother of the bride and 4 bridesmaids were delighted with the appointment and most importantly we found the gown! Kavelle has moved to Brandon Terrace now. There was no problem with paying the deposit with a credit card. There was not a single problem at all. I cannot recommend this shop and the staff highly enough. We can't wait to return for the fittings. :) read more

If you're getting married and are looking for "the" dress, then this is a shop you do not want to miss. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel like the most important bride in the world! You cannot help but be impressed by the selection of dresses and designers available at your fingertips, not to mention a wide selection of accessories and shoes! Nothing is too much trouble and if your dress isn't there, don't worry they have a made to measure service and you can design the dress of your dreams! As for cost, well, it's not going to be the cheapest bridal shop you visit that's for sure, especially if you are using their made to measure service! However as far as I'm concerned the service you receive and the look on your husband to be face is priceless and makes it worth every penny! Quite simply, Kavelle's is a must go to for all bride's to be! read more

I couldn't recommend Kavelle highly enough. When I got engaged the shop was highly recommended to me by a friend. I looked in 4 shops for my wedding dress 2 of which were not great experiences and 2 of which were fabulous experiences including my time at Kavelle. Kavelle is a lovely person with a lovely calm manner. When I arrived at the store she had a chat with me about what I was looking for and really listened which I appreciated. She let me have a wander around in which time she'd picked out 2 gorgeous dresses which when I tried them on I found "the one". She works really cleverly with accessories so you get an idea of the whole image. She's been really flexible with appointments allowing me to come by at quite short notice. I definatetly think that you can't go past a reccommendation and I would definately recommend Kavelle. read more

I'm surprised to hear about this other bride's bad experience. I bought my dress from Kavelle and found her and her mother just fabulous and I had a great experience. I would highly recommend Kavelle's bridal wear to any bride to be. The dresses were just great and the service was excellent. Every bride should go there to find her dress cause they have a great selection. They also have some outfits for bridesmaids and mother of the bride outfits that my Mum really liked. I had a great experience and hope others aren't put off by the bad review. Check it out ladies - I think you'll like it! read more

Had a brilliant wedding dress shopping experience in Kavelle. A beautiful selection of dresses but most importantly warm and genuine service. The assistant had a really impressive knowledge and it was amazing how the little tweaks she made could change the look a true professional. She made myself, my mum and my bridesmaids feel so welcome. Totally different to a horrible experience I had at another shop in Edinburgh and the dresses are much better quality for the price. Will definitely be getting my dress from Kavelle as I have full confidence that the service will be professional. read more

Kavelle is a fantastic shop and Kavelle and her mum are absolutely lovely. There is a good range of different types of dresses to chose from and the shop is appointments only so you can choose in a really relaxed atmosphere. I am hopeless at making up my mind but Kavelle was really patient and suggested different dresses for me to try on so that I could see what suited me. I have been in other wedding dress shops and this one was definitely the best. read more

When I collected it (post-payment), I discovered that my dress was not only much filthier than I'd expected of a sample gown, there was a rip just under the zipper. I had to pay £120 to get it cleaned and repaired before the wedding. £500 for a dirty, ripped dress was far from ideal. read more
