Any tailoring pretty much!! I came in here in a mad panic one afternoon after realising I had split a seam in my mums Karen Millen dress........sh*t. They could see I was in distress and were so lovely and comforting, and had the dress fixed within the day! I couldn't ask for any better. They also custom make curtains too, which is really useful for Edinburgh. The windows in some of Edinburgh's Newtown are ridiculously big, so they make all the curtains there for you! They have a really good dry cleaning service too. They are Master Tailors!

Was very bizarre and despite being told on the phone it was ready and making a 200 mile trip to collect it, only to discover it was sitting untouched for months. People responsible didn't even take responsibility for their actions. The in house tailor Terry was fantastic though and gave an excellent service to try and alleviate the problem! This store stocks a huge amount of suits in every colour imaginable. As well as some other smart clothes, like your tweed coat yah. The service was fantastic, there are few shops which offer such a high standard of service. The shop assistant was very polite and listened to what my dad was looking for and came up with a tonne of options. He gave advice and was really helpful. We settled on the second suit my Dad tried, and the best thing is they alter for free! This was the Monday and the guy said we could pick up the altered suit on Saturday. As my Dad doesn't live in Edinburgh I said I would pick it up but it would be two weeks later as I was going on holiday on Saturday. Not a problem, he organised the suit to be ready for the Wednesday. My brothers picked up their suits from another branch of Slaters and they were just as good.

My brother got his suit for his school leavers dance from Slaters and many of my friends have recently had to invest in a suit for Grad Balls and Slaters seems to be the most popular option. It also seems like the most wallet friendly option as a friend of mine got his suit for £80, I didn't realise you could get suits at such a bargain price! Prices range from under £100 to £200+ so it depends how flush you're feeling I guess. You don't have to go all out and buy a suit or kilt you can also hire them if you don't really need them all that much, just don't get carried away with the red wine.

There were a lot of confused people standing outside and we realized it was because it was past opening time and the doors were locked. I read a small piece of paper in the window and it said ring the doorbell if you want someone to open the door and the shopkeeper came. Shop is small but pretty packed along the walls with Freemason related goods. I was trying to find some kind of cool branded compass and ruler but they didn't have any full size ones. They have 3 to 4 different style white Freemason gloves, I bought a pair and not sure when I would ever wear them. They also have gavels, aprons, etc .... Some things used in actual Freemason ceremonies. They also have a ton of rings and pins to choose from, these are the more souvenir items and there is something branded that you can find as a gift if you are looking for something really unique.

OMGOODNESS I have just been verbally abused, screamed at with finger in my face and ejected from…read morethe shop. I took in a silk jacket I had just purchased to have sleeves shortened. The old lady also said a button needed moving and shoulders adjusted. When I picked jacket up I was horrified to see a mark on front, one sleeve lying at an angle, puckering and large stitching. When I pointed all of this out she was pulling at sleeve denying there was a fault and accused me of: changing my mind about jacket and just wanted money, said I was unhappy with myself and wanted money, body shamed me (size 12/14), picking on an old lady. I pointed out she was the one screaming, not me and suggested she review her cctv to examine her behaviour. There were more insults and terrible behaviour from her but not enough space to list. I am taking her to Small Claims Court for the £595 jacket she has ruined.

Situated on Hanover Street, City Alterations is right in the heart of the New Town area of Edinburgh, and it is just around the corner from the main shopping street, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach. City Alterations perform a whole host of clothes altering including tailoring services, repairs, dry cleaning and fabric cleaning such as fur and silk - so handy! I came into store with a friend several months ago as she was wanting to repair a leather jacket and she was concerned that no where would be able to do it, but City Alterations was recommended as so she came here. The staff in this store were incredibly friendly and helpful and were able to repair the jacket and looked as good as new. The service was incredibly efficient and took hardly any time for it to be fixed. City Alterations also do shirt, trouser, jacket and skirt lengthening or shortening which costs about £12 - very reasonable. City Alterations have great opening hours as they are open until 7.30 on week nights which makes it incredibly convenient for those working 9-5 who want their clothes tailored or altered.

Lu's Tailor is a great little place in Newington. It appears to be a one-man operation with a very…read morekind Chinese man who shortens pants for only £6 and makes them slimmer for £13. After I bought some really nice pants that were a wee bit too long, I popped in here to inquire about the prices. I thought the place looked good with lots of clothes on the left-hand wall and Lu sitting right by the door at his sewing machine, traditionally wearing a tape measure around his neck. I came back again with my pants and changed into them in his changing room. He pinned them up nicely and I left them with him. Just a few days later I came to pick them up, and he had done a really nice job. Although he doesn't appear to speak a great deal of Englihs, Lu is a friendly and extremely capable man who has great prices on the tailoring work he does. I'll be back again when I need other clothes altered.
