Any tailoring pretty much!! I came in here in a mad panic one afternoon after realising I had split a seam in my mums Karen Millen dress........sh*t. They could see I was in distress and were so lovely and comforting, and had the dress fixed within the day! I couldn't ask for any better. They also custom make curtains too, which is really useful for Edinburgh. The windows in some of Edinburgh's Newtown are ridiculously big, so they make all the curtains there for you! They have a really good dry cleaning service too. They are Master Tailors!

So, as far as show repair is concerned, I would most definitely head to this shop, the guy is friendly and chatty and my shoe is still intact.

It's also really cheap; when I managed to overfill a sports holdall so much that the strap ripped off at both ends, these guys sewed them both back on for less than £5, and it was ready to pick up the same afternoon.

Although Stitch Master just along the street is much cheaper, Tailor Stop is specifically a clothing alterations place rather than a generic 'anything that's sewable' place. My stuff was ready the next day, so I can't fault the efficiency of it, but I only gave it 4 stars as there's no getting around the fact that it's a bit pricey. Paying almost £10 just to get the straps on a dress shortened was a bit annoying. If only I'd paid attention when they were teaching us how to sew at school. I'd be loaded by now.

My husband put in an expensive velvet dress to the Straiton Edinburgh branch. On checking the dress…read morethe woman pointed out some stains and that the hem was down. My husband agreed these and paid for a dry clean and for the hem to be put up. On getting the dress back there was a clear iron mark on the back of it. On returning it was denied that an iron had been anywhere near the dress. Latterly one of the ladies in the shop admitted that a trainee had worked on the dress but had been closely supervised. The impression my husband got was that they couldn't do anything to help and frankly they couldn't have cared less. Asked that we wait for the woman who took the dress in to be back at work. Given the intransigence experienced, there was no point to that. People in these jobs should care about people having a great service, they don't. Avoid this firm if you can. We certainly won't be back. Disgraceful service.

I recall coming in here in a massive fluster, wanting a dress altered for a big formal event that I had coming up. In my usual disorganised fashion, I'd left it completely to the last minute, but rather than eyeing me with a look of hostile, we've not got time for this qualities, one of the experienced members of the stitching empire whisked me through to the back to pin my dress in the right places, and in reassuring tones, told me not to worry. I should still be more organised though. Anyway, Stitches has never let me down in the alteration department, and I'm always confident they'll come up with the goods. Aside from alterations, they also do tailoring, dressmaking and drycleaning.
