Growing up, I spent 20 years playing the violin and had teachers of all levels. Matthew is hands-down the most effective music teacher I've ever had. He tailors his approach to each student's musical journey and can diagnose very quickly (and very accurately) exactly what each student needs. Though Alison is a performer and a teacher, I chose Alison Rizzuto because of her voice therapy background. I figured that her knowledge of vocal physiology would be an excellent resource to help me understand what was happening inside my body as I sang. And I was right, she knows a lot! Alison's background in classical, musical theater and operatic singing was starkly in contrast to my folky "conversational" style as she called it. But it was a benefit for me. I enjoyed the challenge of singing with proper technique that also helped me expand my range, control my breathing, project and build confidence that I was on the right track. Since singing requires no physical instrument (like a guitar) to buy and learn, we sometimes feel it's easy. And to a certain degree it is.
