I was surprised to see them working on half the pumps yesterday~ this gas station seems to new to need that much work, but they are up to something! Because of the pumps being out- it makes it a little more interesting to get gas here- for the time being. I was able to pull right into a pump, but others were waiting for spots to free up to pull in. Prices here are a little higher than other stations around Jax- but I swear where, if it's near the interstate- it's hiked a few pennies! And this location is off 295. As far as grabbing gas- pumps are fast, it's painless to pump here! When they wrap up the construction it will be back to 4 star gas!!!

They also have a counter along one of the windows with stools so you can sit to eat. I see a lot of construction workers in here eating on their lunch break. Gas is about the cheapest you'll find in the area, so it's a good place to fill up. There are plenty of pumps, so there usually isn't a wait to get to one. They also have free air here for your tires. Then, of course, they have the usual like any convenience store like cigs, soda, beer, and snacks.

Also they have a collection of interesting junk food like Conchas, Mexican sweet bread. With the high foot traffic their coffee is bound to be fresh. If you're into sodas you can buy their refillable cup & your next refill is only 90 cents. I've on a few occasions tried their Tamale. It's not doughy but actually has decent filling. If you're into frozen yogurt they have Yobe. But lookout as a cupful with topping can get quite pricey. I think the reason why their food is decent is they let their employees test their food at their kitchen at the headquarters. My friend who works for Gate shared this with me. It's like their internal focus group. Maybe that's how they keep their food offerings appealing to all. There's so much more to Gate than just gas. Aside from food they also sell lottery & even have blood pressure machine similar to a Higi station at Publix. Lucky me I don't have to go far to take advantage of this convenience store.

The diesel islands are pretty disgusting and neglected and the lack of preventive maintenance required to ensure all the equipment is maintained and operational but at the very least clean is irresponsible. I understand the clientele here is more concerned about the prices than they are about avoiding making a mess after all this is a truck stop and most probably will never return here again. For those that frequently visit this Travel Center its got to be a little frustrating. The spilled diesel fuel is not only a mess for those that have to try to avoid it so it's not tracked everywhere including inside the store and your personal vehicle it's also an environmental problem since the rain washes it into the storm water system. This is definitely a result of people (customers) not caring and lack any sense of responsibility but also a store management problem. Although this place is super busy there are some opportunities to pick up the trash and power wash the areas around the fuel islands This is a systemic problem across the industry, the differences between the conditions here and a truck that does it right falls directly on the shoulders of the management team. When fueling instructions for a diesel rig includes the need to wear gloves and having a spare pair of old shoes, wet wipes and plastic bags to storage those fueling shoes in to keep the mess and strong odors out of your vehicle it shows the industry recognizes the conditions of these diesel fuel stops across the country and this has become a generally accepted practice. It's not all bad here the staff was friendly and the prices are competitive, but there are plenty of opportunity for improvements.

The store had over 40 people in it and only a few with masks. The employees should speak up. Whoever the cashier was wasn't friendly nor helpful with ny ex asked about one of their griller items.
