Call me weird....I'd rather you say "eclectic," but whatevs, it's all good. To me, I've always rated the quality of a gas station by the freshness of it's donuts. Don't ask me why, but whenever I stop to get gas, as I walk through the doors to pay, the first thing I look for is the donut case, usually located near the coffee station. Gate and Daily's generally serve Krispy Kremes, which are...you know....not my #1, but will do in a pinch if they haven't been there all day. 7-11 and Wawa are my least favorites. No matter what time of day I go in or which flavors I've tried, I've found them to be stale, waxy in texture, and downright horrible. If I have to throw a donut into a microwave in order to make it somewhat edible after I just purchased it, there's a problem. Enter Racetrac on 103rd. It's a newer, vibrant location with tons of space to shop around, complete with a frozen yogurt station and heavily stacked toppings bar. The hot dogs on the grill are always fresh and are complemented by a vast assortment of condiments and soft, steamed buns. There are tables for sitting and also chairs lined along the front window. This location is always impeccably clean, and the associates are never without friendly dispositions. The Nitty Gritty: The donuts at Racetrac, as I understand, come from a vendor called the "Donut Peddler." I don't know the origins or how far they're peddling from, but you would think they're being delivered from a local shop, they're so good. The case is chocked full of different varieties to tempt your tastebuds, but my addiction is the glazed twist donut. Everytime I come here, whether I'm hungry or not, it's a MUST that I buy this donut, it's that delicious. The glazed cinnamon roll is also heavenly and highly recommended. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood and check it out. I've been here countless times and have yet to have a less than stellar experience overall. While you're there try a donut or 5 and let me know what you think. Till next time, my fellow Yeeps, SYOY!

Great sparkly, new gas station/convenience store on 103rd Street. Very convenient since it is right off of 295. Gas prices are really good here. Definitely competitive for the other gas stations in the area. A lot of pumps with wide space so you have plenty of room and aren't close to other cars. Inside, there's everything you could want from a convenience store and then some. They even have a froyo place inside with all the toppings. Employees are super helpful and friendly. Always smiling. This new RaceTrac is definitely going to be giving the Gate station down the street a run for their money. I honestly can't say I'll be stopping at the Gate much anymore now that the RaceTrac is here.

Lowest gas prices on the west side. Always clean with courteous service, and the built in ice cream parlor was an unexpected treat.

They also have a counter along one of the windows with stools so you can sit to eat. I see a lot of construction workers in here eating on their lunch break. Gas is about the cheapest you'll find in the area, so it's a good place to fill up. There are plenty of pumps, so there usually isn't a wait to get to one. They also have free air here for your tires. Then, of course, they have the usual like any convenience store like cigs, soda, beer, and snacks.

Also they have a collection of interesting junk food like Conchas, Mexican sweet bread. With the high foot traffic their coffee is bound to be fresh. If you're into sodas you can buy their refillable cup & your next refill is only 90 cents. I've on a few occasions tried their Tamale. It's not doughy but actually has decent filling. If you're into frozen yogurt they have Yobe. But lookout as a cupful with topping can get quite pricey. I think the reason why their food is decent is they let their employees test their food at their kitchen at the headquarters. My friend who works for Gate shared this with me. It's like their internal focus group. Maybe that's how they keep their food offerings appealing to all. There's so much more to Gate than just gas. Aside from food they also sell lottery & even have blood pressure machine similar to a Higi station at Publix. Lucky me I don't have to go far to take advantage of this convenience store.

In the past two weeks that I've been here one lady was straight up eating a sandwich while cashing out guests, and another time a different female was eating a bag of Doritos and licking her fingers in between customer cash outs and wiping her hands on her pants. Not only is that disgusting and unsanitary, but your customers don't want their items to be touched by the hands of someone that's been eating at the cashier station and also don't want to be rude and do what should be the manager's job to begin with.

PROS - It is usually fairly clean, has an area to check the air in your vehicle's tires, an area to vacuum and freshen up the interior, a good car wash and a number of parking spaces. If all you need to do is get gas and clean your car, you likely won't even need to go inside the store, especially if you bring cash for the vacuum and put your car wash on your card. Makes things much faster, and is especially helpful when you are in a hurry. CONS - You can get much better coffee and tea at the nearby Starbucks, and it would be worth the extra cost. Much better sandwiches and salads are available at Jersey Mike's next door, Panera, or even Wendy's and it would be well worth the trip. Most of the employees late at night are too busy chatting with others to be helpful, and it is so busy during the day that getting in and out is a real pain. A couple of the employees in particular are surly no matter what shift they are working, which is a real problem that needs to be addressed. Overall - Good for gas, cleaning up your vehicle and grabbing a quick snack or a soda, but not for lunch or coffee, because several other better options are available nearby.
