Took my truck to Raben in Marion for new tires and brakes. After that my brakes squealed and produced a ton of brake dust. They also talked me into letting them replace some front end suspension parts. Big mistake! My truck now squeaks and squawks every time I hit a bump or turn. I called them on it and they claim new suspension parts do that. Wrong! I had my regular mechanic look at it and he said Raben used junk brake pads and front suspension parts. I had him fix the brakes but not spending the money on another new front end suspension. Save yourself the headache and pass on Raben. They used to have a great reputation. Not sure if there's new owners or exactly what has changed. read more

I bought 4 new tires from Raben about a year ago. Recently, I took my car to the Raben to get the tires rotated before making business trips to Louisville and St. Louis. They rotated the tires, and on my trip to Louisville, I noticed new vibrations at highway speed. But, being on business, I didn't have time to do anything about it. When I was returning from the St. Louis business trip, one of my tires went flat. Since my tires were so new, I assumed it was a puncture and paid someone to see if it could be repaired. But it was a hole in the side wall caused from mis-alignment. I took the car back to Raben in Marion, and learned that the tires were very out of alignment. Obviously that had been the cause of the vibration I'd been feeling. I asked why they hadn't checked the alignment after the rotation, since that's when it all started. They said that's a different service. I know aligning tires is a different service, but surely checking alignment after rotation is necessary? On Raben's website, it says, "Lifetime Tire Rotations and a Complimentary Alignment Check ($34.95 value) are included with every new tire purchase." I understood this to mean that every time the tires were rotated, there would be an alignment check. But that didn't happen for me, and it meant buying a new tire and spending considerable time dealing with a flat. To add insult to injury, Raben in Marion did not have time to do an alignment. I took the car to Plaza Tires in Carbondale who made time to see me the same day, and who said the tires were so out of alignment, they had to rotate them again. read more

I had been going to Raben for 17 years until I had gone to get my oil changed and the technician that worked on my car put the wrong screw into the car. So when I got home and parked the car in my garage by the next morning before work oil had flooded out of my car all over the floor. I had just than called Raben and explained to them what had happened and they refused to fix their mistake and now six months later when I get my oil changed it leaks all over. Thanks! I was traveling from near Chicago down to Carbondale to pick up my son from college and had a flat near Effingham. Apparently my two year old RAV4 has standard tires which almost no one carries - I called about 10 places in the Mt. Vernon and Marion areas. Even two Toyota dealerships didn't have the tires in stock. These guys did and got my tire replaced in no time at all. Great, courteous service, a pleasant, clean waiting area. They got me to my son in time as he needed to get out of his dorm. They really saved me that day! read more

Raben tire is definitely a car repair shop to avoid if you need any repair beyond having a tire patched. Took my car in and asked for a full service oil change, check all the fluids, belts, hoses and check the breaks. I had been hearing a scraping noise from the breaks and the front vibrated. When they told me my car was done, they said the mechanic heard and felt what I talked about, but there was nothing wrong with the breaks, I might need an alignment. As I drove off, I couldn't help but think, there is no way this is being caused by an alignment. I took my car to another shop, they said I needed new front and back rotors, rear break lines, calipers and pads. What? I had never used this place before, so I took it another place I had used. They said, I need new front and back rotors, new front and back pads, new back calipers and lines.They showed me my back break was seized. Amazed, I explained to them I paid around $800 to Raben about 2.5 years ago for new back rotors, back break lines, back calipers and back pads and new front pads. Now, this is my 2nd car, and I only really drive it to town every now and then. It had been less than 19,000 miles since they were supposed to have done all this work, how could I need all this again in under 19,000 miles? They really couldn't respond, except to say the calipers looked newer, but they really doubted the rotors were new, but could not say for sure. Took the car back to Raben, explained what the other shops said and asked how they could say there was nothing wrong with the breaks. One guy asked if it was one of the guys who do oil changes that looked at the breaks? How should I know!!! Well, he explained, the guys who do oil changes don't really know that much about mechanical stuff and if the mechanic was busy, they probably didn't look at it and the other guy just basically made his best guess. Oh, great! Breaks aren't really essential to driving I guess. The mechanic did FINALLY take a look at it. He was cocky and arrogant. Said it looked like I really just needed a new break line. Confused, I asked about the rotors, etc. He seemed put out and said it would fix it and it would take more time to check the rotors, stating they were "junk" rotors anyway. Oh! Great! Those are the rotors you guys were supposed to of put on, nice to know they are junk! Just fix the break line already. Of course, when I come to pick it up, as I back out and down the road, I hear the same old scraping and feel the vibration. Well, it's obvious he did not even test it after to see if it was the problem. No reason to take it back or try again, I'm just done with them. The problem for them is, most members of my family used them too. They will no longer use them either. I have told as many people as I can about my issues. They will not use them either. So instead of actually checking my car and making sure it was fixed correctly, they chose not to. It will cost them a lot more in the long run. read more

I purchased a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 116S P275/65R12 on 11/26/2014 after reading numerous positive tire user reviews from several sites. I made the purchase from Raben Tires in Marion, Illinois, which is 30 miles from my home. On the way home I found the tires out of balance and immediately called the store and spoke with Jared. I was told to bring the truck back and they would fix the problem. I returned on 11/28/2014 to have them re-balanced and was told by Jared that this type of tire will not balance 100% of the time. After driving back home I found them still out of balance and I sent an e-mail to Goodyear customer support. I received an e-mail back letting me know that the tires I purchased from Raben should be able to be balanced 100% , and to please have Raben call in to Goodyear with my case number to get the issue resolved. At that point I called back to Raben and spoke with Jared, and was told they would road force balance the tires and get this fixed. My wife had to take my truck back to Raben, making this the third trip back with the same balancing issue.. After looking over my 2010 Ford F-150 4x4 super crew, Jared called me and I was told he decided to have the front end checked out and found a bad ball joint. He stated that this was the reason I had a balancing problem. He also, did not road force balance the tires, as promised. Bad ball joints do not cause the same symptom as out of balance tires. The next day I took my truck to a local shop, where I know the owner, and had the tires road force balanced on a newer Hunter balancer. I watched, as all four tires were tested and found after road force balancing I had the following tires that were off by 44 lb, 27 lb, 26 lb, 11 lb, respectively.. I called Raben back again, and this time spoke with Lee, the manager, who acknowledged I had my truck in several times with a balancing problem, and did not show any concern prior to this call to him, although he was aware of the issue. I went over the results of the road force balancing and was told he would replace all four tires and would road force balance them this time. On 12/16/2014 Raben received the replacement tires and installed them. After all of this aggravation with this tire purchase, I have been out several trips, and $40.00 to get a set of tires that should have been road force balanced by Raben Tire on the second trip, This is a set of $1200 tires that should be able to be 100% balanced. I also told Jared, and Lee I could have gone to Sam's Club and saved $25.00 per tire, although I came to Raben because thought I would receive better service, as I have purchased two sets of tires there previously. At no point did they offer to match the price or offer any compensation for my having to pay another tire shop to road force balance the tires. After receiving the new tires, I now have a faulty tire sensor, assuming that they damaged it during the second tire installation, as there were no issues with the sensor prior to this installation. I would NOT recommend Raben tires for any vehicle work! Their lack of helpful customer service is non-existent! read more
