The oly reason I am giving a one is because the removed the bumper that was under the engine because a deer hit it. They did tell my child the cost of tow and tow yard fees and didn't give an option to tow else where. They put in tow yard last night after was hit by a deer. We called at 8 am to try and get car. They told us there is addition fee of $75 to remove on weekend. Also if car is there more than 24 hours a $40 fee. Total for car was close to $500. They won't do veterans discounts, or any AAA. Keep in mind car was drivable once bumper was removed and would have cost nothing. They took advantage of two young ladies when folks are hours away. The girls told them that if bumper was removed they could drive it back to campus. They wouldnt allow it. I feel that they rape you in price. As for the tow guy he did remove bumper and did take photos but that's all I can say is good. Save your money and call your own tow. Which I would have done if I knew what they where going to charge us. read more

Well, well, well... What to do on a Friday night? Yesss! Go to the 24/7 tire shop to replace tires!! (And flirt and laugh with the mechanic guys) Having fun and being safe is the most important things to me when I'm driving a semi, but staying safe is not really the back burner thing. It's the #1 thing and very important to maintain my semi truck and trailer everyday. Every single day before I even start my truck up I walk around it to check the tires, for leaks, my brake air hoses connections, and a few other things but these are the main things. Today I noticed my tires are used up from the winter snow and ice and it's getting really hot, in some places it's over 100° in some states on the interstate. So anyways, I pull into this shop, about 9pm last night. I cake on my lip gloss and put my pocket knife on my pocket and got the Big Boss Hogg down out of the truck because I really never know if these guys are going to be jerky creeps or what. We walk into the shop and right away a young guy named Lex happily greet us and offered a beverage. He's a dog lover so he brought Bossy a cold water. He told me they were going to to finish up the truck in front of me and get me in next. I needed to replace 4 tires today and had an idea it might be at least 1 1/2 hours of labor, 2 hours max which he confirmed. So normally it would an all night headache dealing with Loves or Pilot being unprofessional and listening to 3 to 6 hours waiting just to get in, so I knew this was going to be excellent. Sure enough Lex gave the guy his receipt and I pulled my truck in and 2 other mechanics started working on it right away. So me and Bossy sat and was talking and laughing with him and the shop owner on the bench watching the mechanics and as other truckers come to line their trucks up for service. The atmosphere of the shop was decent, I couldn't complain. Badda Boom, Badda Bing! It was done within an hour. He gave me my receipt for $2478.00 so that's about $500 a tire, plus labor and taxes. So, 2 new front steer tires and 2 matching Bridgestone drive tires after normal business hours. I was ecstatic they did not over charge me and were very nice. I loaded up the dog and off we went to call it a night in the reserved customer parking place. So all in all the lip gloss worked and thank god I didn't have to use my knife. I highly recommend this commercial truck shop for any trucker that needs to have any kind if maintenance done. read more

I have a motor home that needed a front end alignment. I took to a Ford Truck Dealer who said it needed a lot. I checked around and found their recommendations were very rare. They also said it would take 4 weeks. I then called Vernells who got it in in 2 days and found some items needed tighten but was in great shape. They aligned and was all done in 1 day. Called and spoke with Phil and advised I had a semi broke down and needed towed. While speaking I asked for the price to tow he puts me on hold and called driver comes back on the line and says it would be $400 to tow no problem please go do it. Well, once gets back and he calls for payment he tells me it's $800 and I couldn't believe it double and he says "There is a tow hook fee and fuel surcharge and something else". I said well that should have been told at the start when I asked the price for the tow not once you tow it and its time to pay. I understadn that there could be other things that come up but not double the price. So moral of the story don't trust them because they will tell you one thing and charge something different. read more

My vehicle was towed, was ignored for 30 minutes and totally disrespected. Have never been treated so badly in my life.

We travel all over the US., we deal with tire issues often. I always call ahead to verify tire availability, size, ply and price. Called Vernell's and was quoted $140ish for a 235/85/16 14 ply. My driver was a hour away, had him change his route and get a tire replaced. Upon showing arriving we were told the tire would be $190. Of course I'm confused and was simply told "someone must of read the wrong tire"... I called and verified the price, size and ply and was insured they had it in stock. Even if the tire was read wrong that should be on them. I was told a price for the exact tire I got. Feels like just another bait and switch. If we are ever in the area again I'll make sure to take my cash elsewhere. read more

A Saturday evening and we not only had a flat tire but dented the rim and no spare. We were sure we were going to be stranded. These guys were AWESOME! On the drive to Chicago, had the alternator on my F-250 Diesel die on my about 25 miles south of Marion near the I-57 Anna Rest Stop just before midnight on a Tuesday night. This is a 24 hour service location and the dispatcher had somebody to me within an hour. The driver WAS an off-hours tow guy, so I can't complain too much about his smoking and views on race relations while we were in his cab. It was $75 an hour portal to portal towing. The overnight mechanic didn't have the alternator in stock so I had to wait until the next morning so they could order it. They have a deal with the Quality Inn next door, so we received a pretty good discount for the night. The total bill was a little high -- $925 for alternator, pulley, belt, and tow - but they told me they'd have me on the road by noon and they did. It's definately an old-school service center - guys smoking at desks, swearing, etc. so it's not for the faint hearted. It's a good place to keep in mind if you have an off-hours problem. I'm keeping them in my phonebook -- hopefully won't have to use them again :-) read more

We were so grateful to find this gem open after needing a leaking tire to be fixed. We were told to go to Walmart but their auto center was closed due to Covid, which we do not understand what Covid has to do with getting a car fixed. The gentleman mechanic fixed our car quickly and then wouldn't even except payment. They were an answer to prayer. read more

Zero stars Don't give this company your business. Owner is extremely rude and hostile. Waited 3 1/2 hours to get a spare that was on a rim mounted. Told them, they were killing my 14hr clock. He was argumentative and threatening if i don't comply to take my business elsewhere. He will never see me or anyone from my company use this service. Price is high. After an unfortunate break-down at the start of a 10 day vacation, we turned to Vernell's for help. We learned that there are 2 divisions: the towing side (aka the good guys) and the service shop (the bad guys). The towing guy was friendly, polite and drove a (relatively) clean tow truck. They helped us find a hotel room at a discount pre-arranged by them. Price for the tow was $120. And then there were the bad guys...or more specifically, The Bad Guy, Don Branson. After having our car TEN days, he did not even get around to taking a look at it! And the whole time, he acted like WHEN he eventually got around to it, he would be doing us a favor. We eventually sold it to a dealer "as-is", not really knowing what was wrong but not having the time to put into fixing it as we were out-of-towners. Bottom line: if you can use their tow service to take your car somewhere else, I would advise it. read more

In town on business from 430 miles away and caught a screw in my tire. I called them and asked if they can fix it as I left my hotel to go buy a patch kit and they told be to bring it right in. They patched my tire and I was on my way within 20 minutes. read more

I guess they make it policy to swipe anything worth value that they can get away with. Like they hadn't raped me on the storage and tow anyway now I'm out another 100$ worth of items. Blew a tire on the rear passenger side of my class A motor home. I called Vernell's. After waiting over an hour for the service tech to arrive he came and replaced the blown tire with my spare. I was back on my way but after traveling about 150 miles to my next KOA stop I discovered that I had lost my hub cap, had to broken studs and the remaining 6 lugs were all finger lose. When Vernell's service tech put on my spare he had not adequately torqued the lugs. He used a battery operated drill. I assumed he knew what he was doing. Obviously not I .am extremely fortunate that the wheel had not come off because if it had I am sure my motor home would have been totaled and I may not even be here. Total cost to replace hub cap, 8 studs and wheel (holes had become elongated) was over $750. Vernell's refused to take responsibility for the damage. Never ever use this despicable service again. read more

I live in nearby Carbondale, Illinois. I asked around for a good diesel mechanic since I was concerned about the reports of engine failure on the 6.0 F350. My truck was a used 2003 that I got in 2009. The best recommendations, from people that I respected, was Vernell's in Marion. Sure enough, I spoke to "John", one of the employees and he was extremely informative about the problems that had plagued that model truck. Vernell's had worked on many of the EMT vehicles and ambulances with that engine. I have taken my truck in for repairs, tune ups and service for the past few years, and have been more than satisfied with their service and their prices. Their advice has been invaluable. In reading the other reviews, I sure have sympathy with folks who break down on the freeway during vacations or far from home. That sort of thing has happened to me as well. But their stories don't jibe with my experience - not that I doubt them - but its hard to imagine after my years of dealing with this company. While traveling from Springfield IL to Murfreesboro TN on the Friday before Christmas, we experienced a very dangerous blowout on I57 Southbound approximately 15 miles north of Marion. Myself, my husband, our 6-year old twins, and our black lab were in the van. I was very lucky to have been able to get us to the side of the interstate unharmed. I was very shaken up and scared as it was cold and dark (approximately 8:30pm). I called someone in Benton Illinois as this appeared to be the closest location to us based on the GPS. The man in Benton referred me to Vernell's in Marion and I am so glad that he did. Larry answered the phone right away and advised that he would get his guy out to us as soon as possible. Eddy, Larry's guy, arrived with a tire that he put on our van in order to get us to Larry's shop in Marion. We went to Walmart and purchased the tire size that we needed as Larry did not have one available. Larry put the tire on and got us back on the road safely. He even let us bring our dog into the shop where we got him a drink of water and some exercise. If you are anywhere near Marion and have trouble, Vernell's is the place to call. Don Branson, the service DIRECTOR, he got angry when we asked if he was the manager. He is an egotistical man. The workers are polite. I asked if my parts were in after a two day wait. They are due in today i,was told, around 10a.m. Took my dog on a mile walk, came back and asked if parts came while i was walking. Don Branson went off verbally attacking me, calling me names, making jusgments about me, then threatened me saying...YOU WANT YOUR TRUCK WORKED ON DONT YOU! Well you have to go through me, blowing cigarette smoke in my facr. I called my company to put Vernells on a NEVER USE list. Paul the parts guy is really professionsl and the mechanics we talked with when we came in couple days ago. But this jusgmental, inapprpriate, threatening angry man is no bueno! We will never use him again. Too pricey as well. TA or Petro would be less expensive. Old school place where director smokes inside and cusses. Not for professionsl people to use.
