The ABSOLUTE BEST place to kick back, chill and enjoy the weather and the vibe. This general store located in the hills (20 min past Burlington, KY) has a most unique vibe with what life was like back in the days. All sorts of antique items and items to buy. I could go on and on but you just HAVE to go to get the feeling. Then, outside is a nice vibe as well. Kick back with a beer/old fashioned soft drink a snack and look out on the Ohio River. Go during the week and a lot less crowded. A lot of bikers like the winding hill roads to the place so it's a gathering place for them. But that shouldn't stop you. The mayor is likely to greet you so remember your dog treats! The General store is a treasure chest of items including some from local artists. We always grab a six pack of our favorite bottled drinks, candy and Rabbit Hash swag. The staff welcomes you like a family friend. Be sure to snap some photos and check out the other shops too. Rabbit hash general store is a all in one general store in ten cool little historic town of rabbit hash Kentucky right in there " main town" portion. My family and some family friends stopped in the small town or rabbit hash while coming back to Lousiville from the Newport aquarium and discovered this cool little town. This general store has a small bit of fame so when we realized it wasn't far off our route we made the quick trip over. This general store is the definition of small country living. The city of rabbit hash as of the last census I've read has a population of 300 people and a string of canine mayors. The canines in This town absolutely rule to roost here as they walked in and out of the general store at will and everyone of the locals knew them. My 2 year old who is puppy crazy loved it and spent her entire trip here petting the puppies. The store itself is a mixture of general store with clothing, snacks, drinks, homemade products and merch for the town of rabbit hash. Evidently there is a air bnb called the old hacienda that you check in and out of at This general store. So the general store is very much the Mecca of rabbit hash. The old exterior rustic design and setup is fun and very inviting. I was unable to tell who was an actual worker or a local but everyone was very helpful and personable. We actually arrived on a Friday evening about 5 minutes before they were suppose to close. However o think the general store must be the local hang out as people were cracking beers and starting to play music. Nobody rushed us out or anything and instead chatted us up like we was one of the locals. Overall it was a great visit to a cool little town. We didn't figure in to spend much time here but we all enjoyed it and would like to revisit this quaint little town. At the end of the day we got some snacks and drinks. I personally got a Sarsaparilla that was really good. Our friends bought some rabbit hash that included a hand warmer mug and a rabbit hash onesie for their upcoming baby. read more

This is definitely something to see. I grew up in Northern Kentucky but somehow managed to miss this. My parents and I went for a Sunday afternoon visit and I'm glad we did. It's 100% unique and I'm not likely to ever see anything like it again - certainly not in LA! I don't know if it's true or not that the Mayor of Rabbit Hash is a dog, but there are definitely a lot of friendly lazy dogs resting on the porch of the General Store. I couldn't tell which one might be the Mayor - I wanted to slip her/him my business card in case s/he wants to run for a higher office. The store itself is really interesting. There are a lot of regional products like Grippo potato chips, Bun candy bars, Ale-8 soda and others. There are also some cool gift items and don't miss the two back rooms with very unique displays and collectibles. We sat on the porch of the store for a while and watched the motorcycle action (so many motorcycles on Sunday... It's a veritable biker parade) and I tried to get the dogs to play. There is also a view of the Ohio River. Getting here was a winding, twisty road that scared this city slicker to death, but it's a nice wide place in the road to visit, pet some politically active dogs and people watch. read more

The General Store at Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, has survived floods. It has survived fires. It endures. It is the very heart of this little rural community Southwest of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. We took a mini road trip to Rabbit Hash one beautiful weekend this summer just to explore a little bit. We absolutely adored this little town! The store was OK. It has a lot of random items, including incense, t-shirts, soda, old-fashioned candies, novelties, etc. There's even a little room in the back that looks like some awesome gathering room for sitting around to play games, listen to guitar, and burn some incense. Tons of incense! Definitely a very hippie vibe to the place. Very cute and quaint place! I don't know if I would consider this a "general store" as a place to get snacks and toiletries, but the kind of "general store" for random trinkets and souvenirs. Either way, it's fun to come out here, look around, take some photos, and sit at a picnic table in the grassy area next to the store on the riverbank. Seems to be popular with bikers. Just an FYI -- they were very strict on wearing a mask to enter. This was the first place I had been this year (back in the summer) to that enforced masks and did not honor exemptions. I struggled a bit with this (I am exempt). read more

While in the area for another event, I stopped by Rabbit Hash, KY to see what all of the fuss is about. You enjoy a scenic drive along the river, note in areas is only a one lane road, you turn the corner and you're smack dab in Rabbit Hash. As others have stated in reviews, there's not much parking, you turn the corner & park anywhere you can find a spot by the General Store. Then you walk up the few steps right into the General Store, a step back in time and the community came together to help rebuild the store after a fire a few years ago. The store is filled with snacks, soda and beer - they even had Christian Moerlein on tap, plus some small hand crafted soaps, lotions, crafts. Nice little winery across the street, a BBQ stand and sitting area where you will see lots of bikers taking a break. And don't forget the little historical community has a dog for a mayor I missed meeting the mayor during my visit Brynneth Pawltrow aka Brynn a white pit bull is the current mayor. read more

This is such a great find! I stumbled upon Rabbit Hash and the General Store one day when I went for a drive through Northern Kentucky. Any town that is governed by a dog, or any animal, is alright by me. I was lucky enough to visit the original General Store, and was so sad to see the the footage on the news of the fire. As soon as the new store opened, I made a visit back to Rabbit Hash. What a resilient place! The new store looks amazing and has the same small-town feel. Absolutely obsessed with this sweet little piece of living history. Everyone is so friendly, they have the best ice cold sodas and sweet natural products. The winery across the road is also DELISH and the mayor is a dog for crying out loud. We've come here for years and are so obsessed that we even took our engagement photos here. They've made an amazing recovery after the fire and are thriving and awesome as always. Will be back again very soon! read more

The Rabbit Hash General Store (and Rabbit Hash in general) are like stepping back in time. This little river town plays hosts to festivals, the barn has live music, and there is a brand new bandstand for warmer months. This shop is an interesting bit of history. The general store has been in continuous operation since 1831...185 years! The only hiccup in its operation was a fire late last year, but the community pulled together and donated wood from surrounding 100+year old barns to rebuild. It is worth the trip? Depends. The general store is a hangout for bikers (I was the only person I saw in a car). And there isn't much for sale besides snacks, soda and beer. If you're a biker, you'll love it. The General Store was an eclectic mix of stuff, the little BBQ stand fired up around 2 pm, and the large covered sitting area provided a nice backdrop for lunch. Will never return. After a long, scenic drive through the rural area (beautiful)... Nothing special to do or see. No antiques, contrary to expectations. The general store was posted "masks mandatory, no exceptions " -- but we were welcome to stand on the porch breathing cigarette smoke, which is legally supposed to be X feet from entrance/exit. Garbage dumped on the shore. This is basically a nearly inaccessible, cute spot for the wealthy people across the water in Rising Sun to dock & eat a sandwich. Lots of bikers n & out. read more

Quaint little place along the Ohio River. Ever since the fire, I have been wanting to come out there to see what the hype is all about. Well, this little part of the River in this little town is VERY small. Don't expect a lot out of this this town. There is a general store, antique store, wine tasting for Verona Winery (MUST DO!) and maybe another shop or 2. Very quaint and small ha ha. The general store did have some cute, homemade items that I did purchase like their lotions and some little souvenirs and trinkets new and old. Very original which is nice since the Christmas season is going on right now. There are a lot of motorcycles around the town so be mindful on your parking and driving. Speaking of parking, there isn't much space to park. The go to place to park is right when you pull in on the street of the general store and parallel park. Don't block the bridge! This place is definitely some place to visit, just don't expect a huge touristy town. :-) Side note: If I didn't get the true experience of this cute place, please leave a comment! Rabbit Hash General Store is a proper general store. This store has nothing in common with current convenience stations and that is a wonderful thing. This is a store as I remember as a kid. This general store has a bit of everything, from a cold beer, which there are some craft even local crafts available, candy, wears and trinkets. Walking into Rabbit Hash and the general store really will take you back to a simpler time - a store for the customer and not for the stakeholders. You can't create the amount of charm and character this store has, it is developed over time by the right people in the right place. We went here just for the iconic name and history that the store holds. The store itself is very neat and there are all sorts of things for sale. The town has a lot of antique stores, a small winery, and kick-knack shops, there is one place that sells BBQ. The view of the Ohio River is great and we enjoyed the vibe and scenery. read more

We stayed in the Old Hashienda for one night and really enjoyed it even though there was nothing going on in Rabbit Hash that night. We will definitely have to return when there is an event taking place. We didn't see the mayor but Travis the cat stayed with us in the Hashienda. read more

The Rabbit Hash General Store (and the rest of "the Hash") is my favorite place! Terrie, who is the store proprietor, the locals, and the other visitors make you feel welcome. There are no strangers in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. The store (even the temporary store that has been in place since a fire took down the old store on 2/13/16) breathes history and feels much like a living thing. It's fun to explore the well curated selection of clothes, chotchkies, souvenirs, housewares, snack and drinks (including $3 cans of craft beer!). The "new old" store will reopen on April 1st. Lots of love and hard work have been put into maintaining the charm and life of the old store. I don't doubt one bit that it will feel as special as it did on 2/12/16. My favorite thing to do is get a beer from the cooler and hang on the porch, or inside the store, chatting with whoever is around.
