It was Friday 6pm when I went to this restaurant. There are like 10 tables. Mostly people order take out. Hence not much people sitting to eat. I have not been this restaurant for a while. Since I like torch sushi, I choose this restaurant. A set dinner is pretty full for me. Torch sushi is good. The sushi rice is not very tasty as before. The roll with sweet potatoes has deep fried which is fun to eat. Other sushi mostly stuff with cucumbers strips and a bit disappointed.

The best sushi place in North York! The price is affordable and the sushi is fresh! I mainly take away so if you plan to do so, call them 20mins before you arrive there!

The food here is amazing! Their service was a bit slow and the price is a bit higher than other a la carte spots but the quality of their food made up for it. Would recommend to anyone looking for sushi in the area.

This takeaway party tray is the best sushi party tray I have ever tasted in the GTA area. It even reminds me a little bit of the feeling of eating sushi in Japan. I highly recommend everyone to give it a try. 呢間外賣嘅party tray係我喺GTA地區食過最好食嘅壽司party tray,甚至令我有少少諗起喺日本食嘅感覺,高度推薦大家試一試。

We have been here a few times for take out and dine in. TAKE-OUT: When you order takeout you are in for a treat. The packaging is state of the art and the sushi is delivered in fancy black boxes with cutouts for the sushi to be placed in the box and a special cutout for the soya sauce and ginger. The boxes were super fancy and made us feel like we got a fancy experience. When we ordered takeout the sushi we received was fantastic. I thought the aburi sushi was really good and I was happy with my order. DINE-IN: We recently dined in and the experience was ok. The restaurant is very average and basic. It's kind of a hole in the wall with a few tables. We were offered water but they don't have any tea to serve guests. For me, sushi and tea go hand in hand. This time I ordered the Torch Sushi and Roll Combo B with a few substitutes to make the dish gluten and dairy free. The salmon didn't taste too fresh and the aburi wasn't presented warm so it didn't melt in my mouth. The salmon just didn't taste like butter and melt into my mouth like the one at my go to restaurant. The dine in experience was much worse than our takeout experience. I'm not sure I would go back for dine in again and next time I'm craving aburi I might venture to my go to restaurant or another location to try another companies. My partner ordered the deluxe rolls combo a and he said it was good. He was also disappointed that we couldn't get any tea and we both found the prices to be higher than our go-to locations. Would I go back? It's not likely.

R Sushi is another Japanese restaurant that offered boxes sushi. Not sure when this became a thing but it's a pretty neat gimmick. The food was pretty good and fresh, and the prices are decent. Not a fan of the inedible flowers placed on the food. Overall I would come back and try different items.

This has been a place on my list to try ever since it's opened and I finally got around to trying it today with my cousin. We walked in around 7 pm when there was barely any tables. No one greeted us or said hi or anything so we just proceeded to sit down at a table. The hostess/waitress proceeded to come with menus and told us we can sit in the window seat instead, which we ended up moving to. While looking at the menu, I thought it was strange that she never offered us water or anything like that or even asked if we wanted anything to drink ... well it turns out that you need to BUY water...in a water bottle. Which shocks me in this day and age that water isn't offered? Or she didn't even bother to ask if we wanted anything to drink. We ordered the sushi aburi combo A and deluxe sushi combo B. Both of these were mediocre at the most. Presentation wise, it definitely looks nice. However would I crave this place so much to come back again to eat their sushi? Probably not. It did not stand out at all to me. The rolls were mainly stuffed with cucumber with no other toppings inside which is disappointing to say the least. Not only was this a disappointing experience, but I would've hoped that at least the service was better. But clearly not.

I've been here several times now for dine-in & also for picking up take out food. I'm happy with their food. Though if I were to nitpick I would say their rolls fall apart easily. I don't mind that though since all the food I've tried here is good. I'm slowly trying all the items on their menu that I can eat. LOL. It's very close to my workplace so it's very convenient for me. The 3 piece aburi is the most expensive per piece so I advise you avoid that. It's better to get a combo or the oshi 8 pieces. Someday I will order the party tray to share with some people. Another thing I will nitpick on, is the use of non-edible flowers. These shouldn't be put with food. I haven't had any issues so far eating the food that's presented with the flowers. However someone more sensitive than me might have issues. I read someone's review complaining that the torched sushi wasn't hot. Maybe I'm going to the wrong torched sushi places because I have never had torched sushi that was hot. Even Project Fish who in my opinion has great torched sushi has never given me hot torched sushi. I've actually read on a chef website that true torched sushi (aburi) is only torched on top and raw underneath. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Quite impressed! Passed by here a few times and finally got the chance to try it. We ordered via phone at 6:15 for 7:30 pick up. Everything was ready on time. We got the Party Tray A ($55.95) which has 45 pieces. We picked this one because we wanted the aburi sushi. The sushi was well made and tasted soft and fresh. Don't know which was our favourite because they were all so good! They don't have a site, so we had to see their menu via Google. They give 10% off for paying by cash. Definitely will be back!

This came up on my search for sushi delivery on Ubereats and we decided to give it a try! Wowow! We loved the sashimi and aburi sushi set and black dragon roll. Forget what other rolls we got but they were all so tasty. Fish tasted really fresh. I really like the presentation. The dinner comes nicely put together in a modern paper box and flowers inside. Some reviews say these are not edible flowers. There was a free korroke roll with purchase, nice! Great value for the dinner meal and worth it. We enjoyed our dinner and would order again.

I came to R Sushi on a recommendation from a colleague who lives in the area. I came with my 2 year old daughter so I had to order quickly before Miss Hissy Fit unleashed her wrath. I went with the R chirashi and order a gyoza and avocado and sweet potato roll for her. The chirashi was beautiful with some really fatty and generous sized pieces of salmon, octopus, tuna, and surf clam. The rice was well seasoned. My daughter was happy with her meal as well (albeit had to have cocomelon playing in the background)...the things parents do for some peace and quiet at meal time. I'll for sure come back to try the torched sushi.

Visited for lunch and ohh boy it exceeded my expectations, we were walking across finch and spotted this tiny sushi shop and decided to give it a try without any prior research. Interior was nice and cozy and quiet, the design and plates were so cute too! We got their torched sushi and roll combo B ($21.95) pricing and portion wise it's perfect for two at an affordable price which includes miso soup. They also give complementary water bottles. Their wasabi was tasty and fresh, the fish was fresh and the different varieties of torched fish and sauces were immaculate! Presentation was also so so cute. My now favourite sushi place in North York!

Stuffed with crab salad, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura it's a surprisingly hearty and creates enough flavours that it didn't taste too healthy. Pair the maki with an avocado salad ($9) and miso soup ($3) and you've got yourself a complete meal. I'm glad Issmi doesn't skimp on the avocado, there's plenty of it fanned across the simple green salad tossed with Issmi's sesame and soy house dressing. And while the miso soup wasn't overly exciting, it's also not an expensive add on, arriving nice and hot. There are also several sushi dishes that don't break the bank. The Matsu sushi ($25) contains a well stuffed dynamite roll that rival most in the neighbourhood and 10 pieces of nigiri. The nigiri was where Issmi falters a bit: the rice not seasoned enough and some of the fish felt a touch dry. Still, these are just slight nuances that could easily be overlooked.

This is a review for delivery:…read more Even then, I cautiously ordered the maki set B ($14.95) where the uncooked ingredient was limited to the salmon in the spicy salmon roll. In hindsight, there was so much tempura bits incorporated into the roll - on top and mixed with the salmon - that I had little to worry about with the raw fish. Tempura bits are such an oily condiment that can ruin the maki; after wiping off the bits on top, the roll tasted better. The dynamite roll was delicious incorporating a warm tempura shrimp, julienned cucumbers for crunch, avocado, and surimi. Given the rice wasn't too thick, all the ingredients really shone through creating a flavourful bite and the maki is large (10 pieces instead of the typical eight). Compared to everything else, this was the tastiest bite of the evening. Kibo's maki sets also arrive with soup and salad, fairly standard versions of the sides. Instead of diving into the soup, I should have taken the time to reheat it as lukewarm and grainy miso isn't the tastiest thing. At least the soup was flavourful and bits of fried dough were added in lieu of tofu - you won't get away from fried carbs at Kibo Sushi House! I was expecting the ebi siu mai ($6.95) to be a har gow shrimp filling in a siu mai wonton wrapper. Instead, the wrapper was filled with shrimp paste incorporating a lot of flour, so you're met with a mushy bite. I even pan fried them the next day to give it a crust and only marginally improved the starter.

The sushi set had a variety of super fresh Nigri and sashimi, including bluefish tuna, salmon, bream, bass etc. The curry teishoku was so good and flavorful. This curry was served with a super tender chicken thigh with an assortment of seasonal vegetables ( lotus root, mushroom etc). This made the curry super rich and flavourful. Special shout out the Hay Cheesecake - not too heavy and sweet, yet still rich. A must try at this restaurant. Overall, this a very stylish restaurant, comfortable seating with great service. Parking is found on the streets or nearby parking lots. Despite Winterlicious being over, this place does serve fine japanese cuisine and sushi and would love to come back to check out their regular menu as well!

Hay Sushi you're an All Star you've got your game on, well played,…read moreHay Sushi you're a Rock Star you deserve to get paid. That's right, I had to fuse some famous song lyrics into this review to make it as original and stellar as the food at Hay Sushi was! A simple Google search will tell you that traditional Japanese food, or washoku, is renowned for its nutritional balance; it emphasizes seasonal ingredients, small portions, and the ichiju-sansai (one soup, three sides) structure, which includes rice, miso soup, fish or soy, and vegetables, often eaten until 80% full. - Hay Sushi does just that! Everything they serve is understated yet undeniably hits the spot. I had a 3-course Winterlicious meal that was a delight with every bite and every course. Sometimes with set menus you might worry that the quality, quantity, or variety is less than satisfactory but this was far from it. Granted, they had run out of 2 items from their appetizers by the second day of Winterlicious but every last remaining item on the menu was different from the rest and offered a new dimension for your taste buds. The nori tacos are a testament to the fact that incredible things can come in small packages. They come discreetly served in their own little armchair-style pedestals, and guess what?, they do deserve to be put on pedestals as the blend of flavours and textures achieved with each one is truly remarkable. I had the spicy salmon nori taco and the veggies nori taco, both were unbelievable. So here I am wondering if the nori tacos were a one-hit wonder and the second course comes with it's full array of perfectly arranged 3 sides, main, rice, miso soup. I had the Sapporo Style Soup Curry Teishoku. This was not spicy but had a uniquely charred taste supplemented with vegetables such as squash, mushroom, pepper, onion, and lotus root. The chicken was succulent and even the rice was spot on. If you thought sides would be unremarkable, you would be wrong. The daikon, green vegetables and pickled cucumber, carrots, and raddish all pulled more weight than I ever thought was possible. The freshness and impact of each food item even came down to the ginger that was probably the most memorable ginger I've ever had and I never thought ginger alone could ever be that impressive. At this point of the meal I'm far more than 80% full, but hay, there's still dessert! And yes, dessert did not disappoint. I ordered a seemingly simple sorbet but lo and behold the sorbet was truly made with Asian pear and tasted like an explosion of the said flavour; not too icy, not too sweet, just right. If Japanese food truly prides itself on providing balance in nutrition, ingredients, and flavour, Hay Sushi should be very proud indeed
