Smoked Submarine with ham, turkey and brisket with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion and their special sauce.
Shawn T.

The food was good and the price was fair. Sandwiches come à la cart. They have platters that come with sides. Servers are friendly and try and stay on top of things. The dinning is medium with booths and a sit down bar as well as a few tables.

I don't have anything to add to my original review. I just wanted to post a photo of my delicious breakfast from a recent visit.

Great service! The football game was on multiple TVs so we could see clearly from our booth! The RJ's Original Sauce and Southern Sauce were phenomenal. I got a classic pulled pork sandwich! Photo doesn't do it justice!!

Burnt End Sandwich Mac & Cheese

Have been eating a lot more takeout recently and was browsing Uber Eats to find something that would make the workday more bearable. Well, R.J's caught my eye ( and who isn't in the mood for BBQ at all times??) I got the burnt ends sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. Was sincerely impressed with quality of food! The Mac and cheese was really yummy (the only thing that could've made it better is having a some sort of coating on top---breadcrumbs or Parmesan?). The burnt ends in the sandwich had a really smoky taste and nice crust. It was a little lean for my tastes, but the flavor was good and the bbq sauce with it made the whole entree come together. I highly recommend using their spicy BBQ sauce ( just enough heat without being overbearing). Overall: really enjoyed my meal and will have to try RJs again in the future

Jalapeño sausage appetizer. Awesome.
Eric M.

We started this mean and many others here with the jalapeño sausage appetizer. Must say one of my favorites. We decided to split the Really Big rib and meat meal. For 35$ you get way more food than two people ever should eat or try. We did try. I thoroughly enjoy RJs ribs. Simple and delicious. The sausage is amazing. The smoked chicken was great and flavorful. The only thing I will not repeat is the chopped brisket. Not that it did not have good flavor. But there was something off with a super chopped style of meat. Just not a fan. You try it for your palate and see what you think. I will be back and definitely recommend RJ's.

The best local barbecue. It's a small space but the good and the service are always great. Good selection. Solid local option.

Service was wonderful. BBQ not our favorite. I'm glad it seems popular with the locals as I do enjoy seeing local businesses flourish.

We were on a tight drive from Ft. Scott to MCI and had one mission: find true Kansas City-style BBQ…read more-- smoky, not swimming in sauce. Slap's delivered. I ordered the brisket combo with a quarter chicken leg, cheesy corn, and baked potato casserole. My partner went with the brisket sandwich. We grabbed it to go in a hurry... and forgot plastic utensils. Crisis? Maybe. Regret? None. The brisket was perfection -- tender, beautifully smoked, with bark that had just the right texture. The chicken was outstanding too: lightly sauced, deeply flavored, juicy all the way through. Every bite tasted intentional. Even eating it on the go, slightly improvised utensil situation and all, this was some of the best Kansas City BBQ we've had. Would absolutely come back -- preferably with forks next time.

Got a sampler platter w/ cheesy corn and potato casserole and added burnt ends + ribs to go since I'm traveling with my 2 kitties. Everything was just... bland, especially the brisket and burnt ends. Very surprised the bbq place is so popular when the food is just meh. Was also surprised how cheap the online prices were and turns out, the prices aren't updated. The outdoor seating looks nice, and the staff were friendly, but I would not come back.

You get so much food for the price, we ended up taking most of it home lol. We ordered the Round Up and made some swaps, went with the beef brisket, beef burnt ends, sausage, and the crown prime beef rib. Everything was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The burnt ends were a standout, super tender with that perfect char. The mac and cheese was also solid and hit the spot. The ambience was great, nice balance of upscale and casual with a warm, inviting feel. It's the kind of place you can relax, enjoy good food, and not feel rushed. Service was great too. Our server (I think his name was Thoeun) was super friendly and took good care of us the whole time. Also have to mention the carrot cake... unreal. We're not even carrot cake people, but this one changed that. Highly recommend if you're ever in Kansas City.

The carrot cake was warm and sweet. The broccoli was delicious with the garlic butter. My friend got the 2 meats combo and he thought the sausage was overly salty. I would like to try the ribs next time. Service was excellent. I also loved their spicy bbq sauce. It had acid, sugar and salt and a hint of bitterness which made it taste really interesting and vibrant. The interior had high-ceiling and carried the ambiance of a steakhouse. I highly recommend making a reservation. We had a 8pm reservation and there were still people waiting outside.

We drove around KC and every place we stopped at had massive lines - stretching outside of the restaurants. Our patience was wearing thin, but I was bound and determined to eat BBQ. We decided to try one last place...Jack Stack Barbecue at the Plaza. Our hearts sank as we saw yet another long line at the door - an almost two-hour wait. We stopped in to use the restroom and on our defeated-walk back to the car, we noticed a separate area for take-out ordering. I was reading the sign, trying to decide if we wanted to wait for take-out. As we were deciding what to do, out walks a guy [Tyler Wigger] and asks us what we were up to. I give him the entire rundown and he says that he's seen that look on a man before [defeat is what I assume he meant]. He informs me that he is the General Manager and says to come with him - that he is going to hook us up. He takes us to the bar area and tells us to wait for a minute. A table opens-up...and he says this one is for you guys!!! No wait at all - the VIP treatment!!! We all sit down, still in disbelief of what was happening. As we are looking at the menu, here comes some free appetizers courtesy of Tyler Wigger. He did ask me what other places we stopped at. I gave him the list and he said "I bet none of them would do this for you". I can safely assume he was correct. The food was AMAZING...some of the best BBQ we have ever had!!! The service though, was top of the line - I have never had an experience like that in my entire life!!! We definitely enjoyed the VIP treatment!!! It was the experience of a lifetime and something we will never forget!!! Tyler gave me his business card and said to reach-out anytime we are in KC - that he would be sure to hook us up again!!! If you are ever in KC and hungry for BBQ...I highly recommend Jack Stack Barbecue at the Plaza!!!

Wolfpack BBQ is a diamond in a rough that people need to have on their radar for the best bbq in…read morethe city. When we have friends visit from out of town or fellow locals looking for something new we take them there and it's always a guaranteed hit. Their brisket is always top notch along with their pork belly burnt ends and the sausage is amazing. I think their fries are just about the best in the city and my wife agrees. Honestly though I'll be the first to say there are so many bbq places with not spicy sauces that are labeled spicy so I really appreciate that their spicy bbq sauce actually brings a good amount of heat. Not enough that I'm dying but you know it's there. If they sold it in a bottle I'd be the first to buy it for when I grill wings or chicken at home. This time we went and had the opportunity for the first time in a minute to try their new menu options. The thing that stood out was their Mac and cheese. Their revised recipe for it has been firmly cemented at the top of my list for best in the city. Most other bbq places really don't have the right salt level so it is left feeling bland, and to be honest that was my complaint about wolfpacks Mac in the past. But this new revised recipe has the perfect salt amount that drives the flavor of the béchamel they make for it and its seasoning to a place that other bbq places in KC just don't really come close to touching. I wish I had a spoon to eat the last little bit of the cheese sauce at the bottom of my bowl it was that good. Next time I'm there I think I'm going to try their brisket Philly because that sounds too good to be true. I appreciate their staff and owner for being attentive to the finer points and making sure every platter is served to the best of their ability and not sitting on their laurels and continuing to revise and hone their BBQ. Wolfepack has never missed and I don't think it ever will. I'm glad that I found it and I'll be going there for as long as it is around, don't hesitate and give it a try, I don't think you'll regret it.

I preferred the flavor of the burnt ends to the turkey though again it was well executed. Both the regular and the spicy barbecue sauces are pretty pedestrian... Nothing fancy. I did find that $4.50 for a total of five medium to small onion rings was a bit excessive and not worth the cost. French fries were flavorful and worth the price. It's great to have a good barbecue joint close by. Want to try their hamburgers. Thank you for a good dinner.
