Yesterday, I received my first custom tailored suit from R Douglas. It was a tremendous experience from start to finish. Specifically, Ryan is stellar and goes out of his way to make everything simple, without avoiding giving style advice and feedback on options. This was my first experience with bespoke tailoring, and I was nervous going into it. I have a significant disability, and as a quadriplegic, my body shape is nonstandard. I've previously purchased a suit jacket from Macy's and had it altered (the fit doesn't work at all, as it won't button) and another off the rack suit that was modified by a tailor with alteration skills -- a complete waste of money. Ryan was very patient with me and exuded confidence that with the proper approach, creating a well fitting suit was not only doable but simple. By making the jacket slightly shorter in the back and suggesting a one-button style, I have a memorable wedding suit that can also be repurposed for other formal occasions in the future. Ryan also went out of his way to offer visiting me at home for my initial fitting (no alterations were necessary!). I ordered four pair of made to order jeans. When they arrive, I was a bit disappointed in the construction. I expected something a little bit more high-end feeling, but they were OK overall. I ended up washing a pair and my wife put it in the dryer not knowing they would shrink the pants shrunk so high They became high waters and they were unbearable. I took them back to R Douglas and I was told that I could wet them and stretch them out and air dry them. I'm not going to mess around doing this with a pair of jeans. I should've been warned that they would shrink and had them made much longer to accommodate the shrinkage overall, it was a waste of over $1000 for four pair of jeans and I ended up having to donate them all because they did not work for me. From now on, I guess it's just Nordstrom's for me to buy my jeans for the same amount of money I would rather do this. They offered to give me a discount on another pair of jeans, but I didn't feel like they really wanted to do this and frankly, I didn't like the jeans enough to even spend $50 on another pair. read more

Beyond disappointed. I thought it was time to try some custom shirts for those days you want something a little nicer. I went in with the question of "I've never done this before, help me understand and build a custom shirt." ...we just passed the three month mark waiting on 2 shirts. Not with my wearing them, but with them being sent out for new cuffs. I've never been more disappointed with a shopping experience than getting measured for "custom clothing" that doesn't fit. I've literally given up on these and hope someday they might be wearable. I'd hoped a custom shirt with a local store would be fun... disappointment and frustration has been my reality. If you ever look online forms you'll find Suitsupply is a solid choice for MTM aka made to measure suit, and is raved by many. But what if I tell you there is a place offers Bespoke roughly the same price as Suitsupply's made to measure, with more options to customize but also has customer service who genuinely seems to care that you will look your very best? Lucky you my friend as you found it. Ladies and gents let me introduce to you "R Douglas" and let me tell you this place blows Suitsupply out of the water, and this is a understatement. Jose was my rep, and boy this guy knows his stuff. He was knowledgeable, and offered the right guidance when I needed him but also fully respected my choices, which I appreciate that. And lastly the starting $899 price tag is absolutely a steal. Consider a Off the Rack suit from many places this days will run you around $500. If you are looking for a suit please spend a little more, and get a Bespoke suit from R Dougless with my boy Jose. You will thank me later. If this is your first suit I recommend getting a wool suit with neutral color such as Blue/Grey. They also have some cool material like bamboo which I am eager to try. We had such a wonderful experience here! The suits are expensive - being completely custom-made from the ground up - but it is worth it considering the high level of workmanship put into the suit & attention to detail! We came into our initial appointment not knowing what to expect. This was our first experience coming to a custom clothier. My husband wanted an awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind suit for our wedding, and on a suggestion from one of the consultants at Miosa (the bridal boutique where I purchased my wedding dress) we came to R. Douglas. Our consultant Michael (I believe this was his name. He was actually based in the San Jose location, but was in Sacramento for the weekend.) was wonderful. He was very informative and meticulous. He led us step-by-step through our design process, and offered helpful suggestions whenever we were hesitant or were unsure of our decisions. He was never pushy, instead prodding us for further information to help us decide what direction we wanted to go with the design. You literally design every aspect of the suit, even the stitching around the button-holes! My only gripe was that I was given the estimate that our initial appointment would last about an hour to an hour and a half, but it took us three hours! We ended up getting a parking ticket since we opted for the street parking available around R. Douglas and the meter ran out. We had only paid for the hour and a half that was estimated. It's fine since we got an amazing suit, BUT fair warning for those that opt for street parking! Overall, we had such a wonderful & informative experience! My husband's body type is not an off the rack suit you can buy at the mall. He usually tries to get something larger for his guerilla juice head arms and then tailors them. After paying the price for a nice suit and tailoring it costs JUST AS much as a custom made suit at R Douglas. So why try so hard shopping for something that kinda fits when you can get something that fits your body amazingly? The hubs' career requires wearing a suit on a daily basis and because of that we are willing to invest in something that is well made, comes with amazing customer service, and can customize to his liking. He finally made an appointment and had his first suit made. I've NEVER seen a suit look so good on this man until R Douglas made one for him. It did take a while...I think maybe 8 weeks. But if you put it in perspective anything well made takes longer than expected. I'm so glad that Sacramento has this service! They even make dress shirts as well. I swear their prices are comparable to those off the rack name brand ones. You wont be disappointed!!!! And for those guys feeling like they don't have good taste, don't worry!! The sales guy has some fly taste! I've bought suits, sport coats, many shirts and jeans from R Douglas. The store is very nice and prices are reasonable. With that said, the experience is not good. I've had many issues with nearly every order. For example, one of the dress shirts I ordered came with buttons that we're too big for the holes in the shirt. When I raised the issue with the person at the shop - he said "yeah, I wouldn't have let you pick those buttons"...offering up no solution to the problem. In another instance, I was refitted for jeans numerous times, had them re-altered twice, then ultimately demanded to have them completely remade and in the end, I wear the jeans but of all the jeans I wear, they are my least favorite. I have many similar stories. On the flip side, one of the suits I bought is among my favorites, as is a camel colored cashmere blazer. They have also always made things right when I insist/demand it but they certainly never offer to "right" an obvious "wrong" and I don't like to have to make 4-5 trips to the shop to finally get it right. I am no "baller" or your upper class type of fellow that has $ to blow. i do however appreciate quality and understand that you DO get what you pay for sometimes. Do NOT get intimidated by this place my friends. The fact that you are researching about this place shows you have GOOD taste in your fashion sense. That buying a suit from an expesnive place does not necessarily mean you will look good. But buying a suit that is WELL TAILORED will make you look good. That you LOVE details like me (tie clip, lapel pin, etc) .You appreciate the detail and the wisdom of a tailored suit. I know that i can buy a suit from Macy's (which is still a great place to look for suits) but get it altered to form/fit my body, and it will look PERFECT. Sorry for the rant. If youre looking for big name brand suits..they will cost you around 1k. However going here you get MORE for that amount because it is ALL custom. You ever custom make a car on a dealerships website? picture THAT but for your SUIT. Its about a 1-2month turnaround time. From when you choose the fabric you want and all the bells and whistles, to the pre fitting, and final fitting. You can do what ever you want to your suit: What type of buttons what type of vents inner lining how many pockets u want..2 pockets? 3 pockets? NO pockets?! Color of the stitching! the posibilities are mind blowing. Service: They are ALL knowledgeable and above all give you a pleasant experience. Courteous gentlemen and women there. *what was the icing on the cake..is that when i finally got my suit, on the INNER waist line there were rubber pads stitched. i said to myself "what..." then it clilcked. My wedding was supposed to be today but has been postponed due to COVID-19. I had ordered my suit through R. Douglas and paid a deposit and was told that it would get here 2 to 3 weeks ago. While I understand the current situation we are all in, a curtesy call would have been appreciated. I attempted to contact the store and the representative who fitted me weeks ago but I did not receive a response. I went to the store only to find an empty store with a sign indicating they were closed until further notice. I just wished they would have conducted their business more professionally and to let me know that my suit will not be here on time or at least return my call. read more

I purchased a suit from these folks in early 2015. I wear it every now and again, but have never been terribly happy with it. It's a cool shop with friendly people. In my view, though, the emphasis is all wrong. They focus on all of the customization options... The lining, the buttons, the thread of the buttonholes, and so on. Can't say I blame them... That's probably what sells suits. Unfortunately, the suit was lacking in the only reason I went custom: fit. When the suit arrived, it felt awkward in the waist. Too loose. And it has an issue with collar gap--the lapel of the suit doesn't sit properly on the collar of the shirt, producing a gap. I will say that the upper arm/shoulder is quite nice--I have trouble with shoulder divots with most off-the-rack suits, but the R Douglas suit's shoulders look great. They sent it to the tailor for some tweaks, but it's still not perfect. Admittedly, $1,000 is cheap for made to measure, but MTM should fit right. My advice? If most off the rack suits fit you well, but you want to customize features to make your suit feel personal, R Douglas is a great choice. If you're looking for a place that will get you a perfectly fitting suit on the first try, I can't recommend it. read more

I'm a slim guy who doesn't find many pieces with even an acceptable fit off the rack, so I essentially didn't know before what a well tailored suit would feel like. The suit they made me fits like no other clothing I've worn, and I love it. During the process, each member of the staff helped me at one point or another. Drew was very welcoming and gave good advice during the initial design consultation, even on New Year's Eve when he had a cold. He and Ryan nailed my measurements. Luke helped me with the first fitting and gave good advice for a minor alteration. Natasha was very pleasant, usually answering the phone and setting up my appointments. It's obvious that Ryan (the "R." of R. Douglas) is highly knowledgeable, takes pride in his business, and likes making clients look their best. My wife really likes the suit, and that's the most important thing to me. But when I leave R. Douglas in my suit after the final fitting, walk several blocks to where I parked my car, and on the way have multiple complete strangers in downtown Sacramento stop me to compliment the cut and fit of my suit, it feels a little bizarre. Ya know... good customer service goes a long way. What makes this matter worse, was I was dealing with the business owner. I called last week asking about their hours... I was given the days they were open and times. So I had some time on Friday to stop by. After driving downtown and finally finding a meter spot, I made my way to the this store. There was a sign in the window saying "Back in 15 min"... which is fine, but my meter was running. I saw the keys in the door in the inside, so I knew someone was inside the store. So I called and spoke to Ryan the owner who stated they only open by appointment... WHAT?!?! No where on their website or on their store or on yelp does this say this info. Eventually, he said he would let me in, but they were having a team building lunch.. which again understandable.. but do not give me the BS about appointment only. To add insult to injury, he tells me they can only have so many in the store, due to Covid. I had my mask on... and again says this info nowhere. I replied NO ONE WAS IN THE STORE! so it was not relevant. I paid for my merch and left.. would I come back? Does not sound like Ryan wants business very badly ... so probably no. On the plus side, he did eventually let me in and make my purchase... so you decide. read more

They do really good work but make sure you are getting your suit when you pick it up. The day before I left town for a wedding I came in, gave my name and was given a suit. I thought it odd at the time that they didn't take it out of the garment bag to show me the work they had done. "Whatever," I thought since I was in such a rush at the end of the day. As I drove off to leave town I pulled in to a gas station to fuel up and decided I'd take a look at the suit. Shear panic set in when I unzipped to find a suit that was not mine at all. Not even the same color or remotely the same size. R Douglas was closing in just two minutes so I called them in a panic while I raced across downtown during rush hour to try to get my suit (all the while thinking the owner of the blue suit I had may be doing the same?). No answers, then after my third call it went straight to voicemail. I left a panicked voicemail and soon got a call back from one of the guys in the store who said "he can stay open for me". That irked me even more (I probably said something to the effect of "you better!"). I did finally make it back and switch the suits but all that stress the day before an important wedding left a very bad taste in my mouth. The owner soon called me and apologized, he even offered a free shirt. It was a nice recovery attempt but I don't ever wear tailored clothes or dress up like that often. R Douglas did a good job on my suit but I chose them solely because I thought they were professional enough not to mess anything up for something so important.
