Clockwise: Polish sampler platter for 2, rainbow trout, and pork shank.
    Howard L.

The food is flavorful, delicious, and well prepared here!  Our party of 4 ordered a Polish sampler platter for 2, a rainbow trout entree, and a pork shank entree.  The pork shank was very tender, and the trout was also very fresh.  The platter for 2 struck us as being on the smallish side, but a whatever on that as it was all tasty.  Overall, except maybe on that platter for 2, the prices are reasonable though they are currently at 4% higher than the printed menu prices.  Complimentary warm bread slices were also provided. Their dining space is not that big, so I called in with a reservation for 4.  It probably wasn't needed on a Thursday night, but it doesn't hurt to make one.  Marvin was our informative server and he's also a partner here.  They kept the place on the cool side so I'm glad I had my light jacket with me.  I'll go with 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars for our outing.  We will make an effort to return sometime and try some other dishes.

Looking for a cozy spot on a cold Midwest night...I stumbled upon Qulinarnia. It is a quaint BYOB restaurant with a robust menu. I got their sample platter and loved every single item (pierogi ruski, kielbasa, sauerkraut, cabbage rolls). I got the grilled sausage to go The rainbow trout is listed as boneless but had bones so the host generously offered a dessert for the trouble. Will definitely be back for some comfort food, they have quick to-go options.

I was craving Polish food and was checking out some in the area and this popped up! It was super cozy inside and very homey. Our server was super welcoming and didn't treat us any worse because we weren't polish. I ordered the chicken soup to start and then sampler plate. The chicken soup was warm and had plenty of herbs. The pierogies were delicious. The skin was cooked perfectly and the potatoes inside were flavorful. I loved the potato pancake. It was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and not as greasy as I expected. The wrapped cabbage was also made well, the shape stayed together and it wasn't too bland. I didn't love the sausage and it was a bit tough but everything else was great! I get the vibes that this restaurant is mom-and-pop and it's a local spot, so I want to show lots of support! I would definitely go again and the food is very affordable.

This place is worth your time and hunger. I had the Beef Goulash and it was like a "warm hug" on a windy cold Chicago night. The Goulash was served with potato pancakes and coleslaw. The beef in the goulash was tender and full of flavor. One of the owners was my server and he couldn't have been nicer. I forgot to take a picture of my Goulash until after I had already started on it. So there is one of the potato pancakes missing and several bites of the Goulash gone.

It was time to try. We expected a bit of a hole in the wall and that's not what we found - we found a very nicely decorated and maintained restaurant with a lot of dark wood overtones - we were seated immediately and given an extensive menu. I ordered a Polish beer, and we ordered a Polish plate - kind of a combination sampler plate if you will - and a ground pork cutlet dinner. Now before we could say anything? Some bread showed up with a lovely but lightly flavored hummus type spread- we enjoyed it because it also came with a nice big half sized pickle. When the Polish plate came? OMG we had sauerkraut - we had sausage - we had some pierogies, and when the pork cutlet came out? It literally covered the entire plate and was resting on a bed of freshly mashed potatoes. We shared the Polish plate and we shared the extremely large pork cutlet. Now to be fair? We loved the Polish plate immensely - while the cutlet was nicely breaded, and the mashed potatoes were great? I'm not certain I could say that about the pork cutlet. There was nothing wrong with it. I think the flavor was fine, but it was not something that I would order again. It just wasn't my taste that's all. So would we come again? Yes. Yes we would!

Everything we tried was at least pretty good, and several things were excellent. Service was friendly and good. Dirty dishes were cleared away promptly, beverages brought on request. The decor was a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. My one real complaint is that it's pretty crowded, especially when you have to squeeze between chairs multiple times to get back to the buffet. Prices are reasonable for all you can eat, considering the quality of the food. They're only open on weekends, so skip breakfast and come hungry and you're sure to leave stuffed and well satisfied.

They were perfect and better than other places I've tried. I ordered the white borsch soup and the stuffed cabbage with mushroom sauce and dumplings. This was my first time trying both of these dishes. The white borsch soup was so savory and I really enjoyed the combination of sausage and hard boiled eggs with the broth. The stuffed cabbage was better than I expected, and that mushroom sauce was so good! My friend ordered it with the tomato sauce and that was very good as well. The dumplings were amazing paired with the sauce. The atmosphere is super cozy! I loved it. It feels like you're in a log cabin. Great ambiance. Service was excellent. Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. Overall, I would highly recommend this polish restaurant! It's been located in the same spot in Wood Dale as long as I can remember, and I'm glad I finally gave it a try. It's also conveniently located right next door to Helen's Deli, a polish deli that sells polish sausages, breads, spreads, and other polish foods. Great experience!

The place itself is incredibly inviting, all warm wood, cozy corners, very Bavarian lodge meets Polish soul. It was busy and buzzing, and Polish was the main language at nearly every table... except ours, which was happily bilingual in Spanish. It felt authentic, lively, and full of life. The service was friendly, fun, and patient, guiding us through the menu with enthusiasm. We shared a feast: pelmeni, Highlander-style pork shank, kiszka, Real Man's Meatballs (Męskie Klopsiki), and other delicious goodness that made the table groan (in the best way). Every dish was hearty, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. It was also my birthday, and just when I thought the night couldn't get better, the staff surprised me with dessert and sang Happy Birthday in Polish. I loved it. Big smiles, full heart. The food was so good that I stayed behind afterward to order takeout for my husband, stuffed cabbage (gołąbki) and pierogi, because sharing joy is important... and leftovers are sacred. U Gazdy isn't just a meal, it's an experience. One that fills your belly, warms your spirit, and makes you want to come back hungry.
