L O C A T I O N Boulangerie Ange is located in Mail Champlain but as I mentioned the entrance is outward towards the large parking lot. Plenty of spots, so no worries about finding a spot! I N S I D E It's a nicely sized spot with seating inside with seats blocked off for spacing during COVID. T H E G O O D S Once you enter you're already greeted with tarts! Who doesn't love tarts, cakes, and pastries. They also sell sandwiches, pizza, salads and drinks. We opted to get a large pear almond tart to bring to family. Sometimes almond paste can have that artificial almond extract taste. This does not, so I feel like they make their almond paste in-house. The crust buttery and the pears juicy. It was great! Wish we were able to get more things to try, but definitely get the almond pear tart. I think there's a small version too. I heard that smoked meat was something you should eat while in Canada. My BF and I were exploring…read moreOld Montreal and needed a lunch spot, so a quick Yelp search helped us find Smoking Meat. We ordered the smoked meat trio and the poutine with smoked meat. The smoked meat trio includes a sandwich, cole slaw, and water. I've never had Canadian smoked meat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it would be a lot smokier, but I'm glad it wasn't. It reminded me of NYC corned beef sammies. The poutine with the smoked meat was also great. This was definitely enough food for two people, especially since the poutine is so heavy. We actually thought we ordered the smoked meat plate, which includes all of the items from the trio, plus a pickle and more french fries. When we asked them about it, we realized that we probably just ordered the wrong thing. However, they brought us out some extra fries (which we definitely didn't need), but it was really nice of them to do so. It was a nice textural change from the gravy-soaked fries we had been eating. Overall, it was a great meal - but definitely not something that I could eat that often.

The smoked meat was salty, oily and expensive, the poutine wasn't the best either. Such a small portion that was expensive, probably because it was in a tourist area. Don't think I'd eat here again unless I can't get out of the older montreal area because there's other places much less oily and more reasonable.

I couldn't finish the Egg on Your Face, so I had the rest for lunch (it was almost as good cold!). But it was DELICIOUS. Everything was really tasty and the croissants are so flaky. Service is fast - but you can tell some of the items are freshly made (like the French toast and panini). The atmosphere is adorable & quaint. Seating is a bit crowded, but that makes it charming.

Service was excellent. It was very busy when we arrived, but we were told it would only be a 10 minute wait. We sat outside on a bench, and waited to be called. I admired the ambiance as we were shown to our table. It was full, and noisy, but so much that we couldn't talk to each other. Bonus points for whoever designed the sound system that played 80s music during our visit. Enough speakers to fill the room with sound, and the system didn't need to played loud to be enjoyed. Coffee was superb. Just the right strength, with lovely notes of chocolate. I had the chicken melt, which was incredible. Real chicken pieces, sauce with a touch of heat, and toppings with just the right amount of savoury. Her panini was equally good. The star of the meal was the french roast. Heated all the way through, with the right balance of fruit, cheese, and syrop.
