The quality of the workmanship and pride in doing a superior job is all the more surprising when considering how reasonable the prices are. I have a pair of bluntstone boots that have been so broken in and when the heel had a problem I was heartbroken. I contacted them using the yelp app to get an idea if it was repairable and the owner got back to me right away. I'm pretty disappointed with this place, especially because I had high hopes after reading all the reviews. I brought in a pair of Blundstones to either have new soles or new treads put in the soles as they'd worn down to basically being flat rubber. I was greeted by, who I think was, the owner and his son. They were very nice and assured me that they could fix the soles. I also asked for them to buff out the leather where there are some chips, to which they again assured me they could do. They said it would be ready by Friday. So, late Friday morning I called to make sure they were going to be ready. They said they would be ready for when I got there around 4. I showed up at 4, and seemingly took them by surprise? The son then went into the back and gave my boots to another man back there and they did the work on them. I watched the man spray some kind of brown paint onto my boots and then they gave them to me. Honestly, I was in a rush so I paid $50 and left. I got home and was so disappointed to see that the soles were not put on very well (coming off the leather in parts) and that they didn't buff anything out, but just painted brown paint on the leather which masked the chipping for a few days. I'm very disappointed. I feel like they did terrible work in a few minutes when they had over a week to complete the work. Certainly not worth $50. read more

I have a very handsome pair of winter boots which get me through these crazy Hali winters. So I fell into the depths of despair when the pull tab on one of the zippers broke. The zipper had been acting a bit strangely anyway. I will add that in addition to these boots being handsome, they were also expensive as they came from KAS down on Spring Garden. I was becoming semi-hysterical about what seemed to be the certain demise of my Hali. essential winter footwear. Anticipating a big repair bill or that the zipper was beyond repair, I procrastinated but got it together today to go to Quinpool Shoe Repair. I had never been in, but the illustration of the cat on the window reassured me. What a find! That place is the real deal. Stepping inside the tiny shop, you smell the leather and the shoefixing elixirs. The place is a bit of a throwback to another time with posters of the original brat pack and old Vegas hotels on the walls and funky jazz music playing. To me the nostalgia was a sign that these people are still in business after a long time because they clearly know what they're doing. Three other customers came in while I was waiting and they all left happy. I had to wait all of ten minutes while the very kind cobbler (not sure if that is the correct term and I didn't see any elves, but hey the guy wears an apron and fixes shoes) replaced the pull tab with something just as luxe looking as the original part and cleaned up the zipper so it worked better. The repair was done while I waited and, best of all, for the low, low price of $5. He did tell me that another customer had experienced an issue with the same pull tab, so if I had any issues just bring it back. You don't get that kind of honesty or guarantee every day of the week in the retail world. I would definitely bring any other shoes or boots needing fixing here. Another plus is that they cut keys for a reasonable price. You can never have enough spare keys. read more

This to me is a Halifax Monument. I feel like it has been there forever, lasted through many changes in this city. One reason, I believe, is they are VERY consistent! They have helped me through MANY shoe emergencies and always with impeccable service! They have saved some of my leather goods from absolute death, they have kept me from slipping on my new heels and basically saved my life. Having read some positive reviews I thought that I would take in my black dress shoes to have their soles replaced. These are a great pair of Italian shoes that have served me well for 15 years of wear. This is the first repair I am having to do to the shoes. I took the shoes in on May 31 and was advised I could pickup the shoes anytime on June 3. I arrived at 2:15pm on friday and was told that he hadn't started work on them as he had failed to write down whether or not I wanted rubber or leather soles! Now this was entirely untrue as three days previously we had this discussion and he wrote down the choice on the tag in front of me. He then stated that he had left me a voice message 20 minutes ago. This too was untrue and quite extraordinary of him as I had NOT left a telephone number. I was very wary at this point due to having been lied to twice. He then asked if I could could wait 30 minutes while he did the work. I said yes. While waiting a lady came in to pickup her shoes and was surprised that he hadn't started work on her slingbacks that she dropped off fours days earlier. He gave the her the line of "I just left you a message a few minutes ago because I forgot to write down what you wanted done with them!)) and when she said that she hadn't checked her messages, he then spoke very quickly saying that he had tried at least three times and each time he was unable to get her. This speech came across as very untrue, especially as I had just received the same line from him a few minutes earlier. The requested 30 minutes wait turned out to be a 1.5 hour wait before my shoes were ready. This whole experience demonstrated dishonesty and a lack of basic business principles and ethics. It also caused me quite some inconvenience due to the lost 1.5 hours in the middle of the afternoon. The show repair itself appears adequate, only time will tell how well the work holds up. I was very disappointed with how I was treated. The dishonest way I was treated will ensure I look elsewhere for shoe repairs in the future. read more

Most of the time they are able to tag some life onto the end of my poor shoes life cycle. My daily drivers are a pair of shoes I have had and worn consistently since 2002 and recently the sole (soul) gave out. Seeing as it is could out these days and I don't want frost bite on my toes, I went to Quinpool Shoe Repair looking for a fix. They had a number of short and long term options for me and were also very honest with me (You're going to need a new pair of shoes soon). I went to the shop to have my brand new boots stretched in the calves, they didn't fit with leggings the first time I tried them on so they kept them a week longer and stretched the calves in the boots again. I picked them up and they were perfect. I had speedy, pleasant, caring customer service and would go back in a heartbeat! They charge for the rate, not per day which is really great too because I could not go in the day I had originally planned. So I have to go to a wedding next week, and I'm in the wedding party. I finally found a pair of shoes the right colour, but they were slightly too small. A friend suggested getting them stretched, which I didn't know was possible. Turns out it is: I took my shoes in one day and was told to come back the next. I did. The store was closed and the owner was on vacation. I was about to get stressed out because the vacation time was going to end after the wedding I had to go to, but there was a phone number in the window: "call for pickups". I called, and the next day I was able to go pick up my shoes. How much to get them stretched a size up? Five bucks ($5). Sounds like a deal to me. A big plus: the dear old man who does the repairs is straight out of a bildungsroman movie in which the protagonist needs an unlikely mentor; he was jolly, he wore an old-timey apron, and he walked with a creak in his step and complained that the rainy weather was bad for his back. I've been in twice lately, the first time I got great advice on cleaning a beige suede handbag. Then I went back because they had so many shades of light brown shoe polish when I couldn't find it anywhere else; the owner even opened the jar to test it for me. Don't know how to polish your metallic colored leather shoes? They do! We call him the magic man at my house - seriously. I just had to have my favourite pair of oxfords re-soled, my second-favourite pair of boots' sole fixed, and two of my favourite bags fixed. In two trips, for about 60$ total, everything was beautifully done and I really enjoyed all interactions with the owner, what a sweetheart. I paid $5 to get two pairs of boots stretched in the fall, which came with a complimentary resole on one and an offer to bring them back for additional stretching at no charge. Then I called in about a pair of Birkenstocks and was told they'd add an additional hole for me on the spot. Amazing!!! Remember to bring cash! read more

I brought 2 pairs of boots in to be repaired in December. Both with worn out soles/heels. The owner (I'm assuming he was the owner) was very friendly and seemed to know what he was doing. I asked him to do what he needed to do to get them back to good repair. The boots were ready a week later when he said they would be. He had put new lifts on the heels of one - which seemed to be fine. The only problem is the rest of the soles were falling apart - cracking and one had a hole starting in the bottom. I would have expected him to fix these problems, as new lifts when the rest of the sole is almost worn out, doesn't really help me. The other pair he replaced the soles, and they started pulling away from the boots at the toe immediately. First on one boot after one wear, then on the other a few wears later. After spending $70 (with no receipt given), I'll probably go somewhere else next time. read more

I love this place. I hope they never renovate or change the decor because it always feels like I'm stepping back into Brooklyn in the 50's or something. My feet tend to decimate shoes ( or maybe it's the way I walk, or where I walk? I dunno) and I've taken about a dozen pairs here over the past few years. I took a pair of Blundstones in for new heels last fall, as the original heels of the 15 year old boots were finally decomposing. I was told to come back in 2 wks. I returned in 3 weeks to find they were still not finished. In fact, I had to return a total of 4 times before the boots were finally done (over a period of about 6 weeks). Yes, the heels were replaced, but so was the entire sole, which is not what I had asked for. Now, a couple of months later, (probably having been worn about 10 times, and not in unusually wet or snowy conditions), I find my toes are wet: the sole AND heels on BOTH boots are coming unglued. I went to this shop because of all the glowing reviews, and I was sorely disappointed. I took in a favourite pair of shoes I've had for around 15 years for resoling. I brought the soles myself, which I had purchased from the manufacturer (Fluevog). Returning a week later, I was told that my shoes weren't ready. Pre-xmas rush, I figured - no big deal. I returned about 3 weeks later and was told my shoes were still not ready. He offered me a free shine & waterproofing of the leather boots I was wearing, which I accepted. In total I returned twice more to be told my shoes weren't ready. Then I resolved to get my shoes and take them elsewhere, since this was giving me a bad feeling. But he told me that the work was partly completed and I could wait and take them that evening. When I went to speak to him around the wall I saw he was just starting to remove the old soles! After my shoes had been in the shop for about 6 weeks. So I left, wondering if I should have just taken them as-is and found another repair shop. Returning two days later I did indeed get my shoes, with new soles attached. I was told that the $20 charge was a special rate for me because I had had to wait so long. I don't know what the normal price would be, I think that was a good price but wonder if it was 'special' since I had supplied my own soles. The shoes look fine but I haven't worn them yet since it's winter. I definitely will not come to this shop again. read more
