The restaurant is small--I'd guess it seats no more than 18-20 people--and it's packed with Pepsi memorabilia that gives it a fun, nostalgic feel. It feels like stepping back into a classic American burger joint. Even better, it's been serving Route 66 travelers since the 1950s. Happy Burger has become a true Mother Road institution. (TravelOK⁠) My wife and I both ordered the Jumbo Burger special. I swapped my fries for onion rings while she added cheese to her burger and kept the hand-cut fries. We ended up sharing both sides, and I'm glad we did. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. I'm usually pretty critical of hand-cut fries because they often end up limp or undercooked, but these were excellent--crispy outside and soft inside. The onion rings were equally good. The menu isn't huge, but that's often a sign that a restaurant focuses on doing a few things really well, and Happy Burger proves that point. If you're driving Route 66 through Sapulpa, don't just stop for the Passport stamp. Come hungry, enjoy a classic burger, soak in the nostalgic atmosphere, and experience a piece of Oklahoma history. This is exactly the kind of local spot that makes traveling the Mother Road so much fun.

The building is bright and sunny with fun vintage decor. The service was also excellent--very efficient, friendly and personable staff. This is just the lunch stop that Sapulpa needed for ladies who like to browse all the vintage malls and shops! Dough Momma's is #1 on our list now! She was efficient, encouraging, and looked like she enjoyed working with the other employees. There were A LOT of band students, and it took a long time to serve everyone, but the workers did a good job and didn't seem to break a sweat. They kept the tables clean too. I enjoyed my beef n' cheddar, which was very full of meat and cheese (always a good thing!), and I enjoyed my warm cherry turnover. The cookies my friends got were perfectly soft and a hot, chocolate, yummy mess!

I got to the store about 12:45 and they had a few people in line about half the tables inside were full and just one or two tables outside were taken. I got in line and the line was moving pretty slowly. From what I could see the slowness was due to someone in the kitchen shouting orders to the cashier, through the service window. This happened two or three times while I was in line. Right before it was my turn to be served, which had taken me probably 8 to 10 minutes to get from fourth in line to next up, another order came in for a hot box and other stuff. Not sure exactly what is in a hot box but the order was for over $100. Once the cashier got done with that order, I asked if it would slow down my order as I was in a rush and had to be back on the road. She informed me it wouldn't as they have two lines set up in the kitchen. I placed my order and asked for it To-Go as I had already been there a while. After waiting a good 15 minutes, I asked the lady who was staging the orders if I was anywhere near to getting my order. Her first response after looking at the list was "No, it will be a while." I told her I was in a hurry and had to get going. She then said it will be out soon. Let's just say, I had time to refill my drink twice, and I was not drinking it quickly, so probably another 6 to 8 minutes. I went to ask again how much longer it would be and I know she saw me coming towards her and she turned away and went into the kitchen. At that stage I got back in line for the cashier, to ask for a refund. After standing in that line for another three minutes, she had only served one person., with three or four people ahead of me I had run out of time, so I dropped my pager on the counter and walked out. If you like chaos and poor service then this is the place for you. I will probably try other Dave's Hot Chicken locations as I know they can do much better, but this location will never see me again. They were so slow and disorganized I swear they couldn't organize a party in a pub.
