So so good! Came here today alone for the first time. It's been hard to find decent vegan food out here. I got the Jamaican burger (with the fried plantains) and a Mate tea. I was not let down!!! Holy crap the burger was so full of flavor and didn't "taste vegan" at all. The tea was refreshing and the service was great! Wasn't anything quick about this place today (waited @ least 10 minutes just for a menu) food took more than a hour to get to us, "Seriously More Than A Hour" the waitress made some lame excuse about taking too many phone orders and they weren't going to take anymore now, but the food still took 20 minutes to get to us after this, and when it did my tacos were cold, the food wasn't anything to write home about either! Nine years after my first review, Quickie Too is still my favorite restaurant in Tacoma. I'm sure the sandwiches, burgers, and wraps are great, but I always get the platters from the supper menu. Today it was my usual, Southern Comfort, and my gf got the Friday Night Fish Fry, with fried vegan "fish," potato and green salads, mac and yease, and a hush puppy. Tried this spot for brunch this weekend and it was good. It's a little hole in the wall kind of place serving up some pretty solid homemade comfort food. I tried the pepper steak with polenta and gravy, also came with greens and a hushpuppy which was all very good, although it was a bit salty. The mac and yease however was delicious. Delicious. The staff was also kind and friendly. The dining area is rather tight so you are very close to other patrons dining. I also did note that the restroom is outside around back and it's not in the best of neighborhoods, so that was a little curious. Definitely will try again, maybe takeout or delivery. read more

Disclaimer: this food has made me lose my mind. As I was eating I kept saying over and over again "holy cow" (the irony). I ordered three things for my husband and me: the smoky mushroom melt, the Jamaican burger, and the Southern Comfort plate. And now that I have eaten this food, I know that this is my new favorite restaurant in Tacoma. The mushroom melt did indeed melt and the flavor was delicious (hubby's fave); the sweet potato fries, well mmm mmmmm!!!! Crispy on the outside but tender inside. Damn. The Southern Comfort plate was my fave, with tasty mashed potatoes and gravy and gravy-soaked tofu. The mac n yeez was amazing. So now I'm super full and basically want to eat here every day/night. Great vegan food! When I went in it was around lunch time so they showed me only the lunch menu, which had a limited amount of stuff. My kids ordered breakfast foods which were pretty over priced but it made up for its self with my dish. I had a country fried steak... it was the best one I've ever tasted. I'm so glad I finally checked out Quickie Too. I was looking for a lunch spot to take my friend who has severe dairy and egg allergies, so a vegan place sounded like a good choice. Honestly, everything we ordered was a hit, even with her 3-year-old who only intermittently seems to eat food at all--he liked his mac & yease, lemonade, and fries...and so did his mother and I. We both helped ourselves to a few forkfuls for taste-testing purposes and were not disappointed. My friend and I ordered sandwiches. They were enormous; both of us had enough left over for a second meal. In an act of profound love for my parents, I gave them my leftovers--and now my vegetarian mother is insisting we take her to Quickie Too as soon as possible. Such a cute hole in the wall place. My fiancé and I discovered it on Yelp and decided we wanted to try it especially since we're Vegan. The only thing that concerned me was the fact that when I called the store so I could order take out, a little child who I could not understand a word from answered the phone. I kept saying hello and asked to speak to an adult and then the child hung up. I called back again and my call went straight to voicemail. That was a little upsetting especially since we wanted to call in our order so we didn't have to wait, plus on the website it says they do tAke out. We still wanteD to try this place so we decided to just go there and order. When we got there, we ended up finding a little kid behind the counter, maybe 3-4 years old, eating ice cream and I think he might've answered the phone. We already knew what we wanted and we were helped immediately. Food took about 15 min to cook which honesty is reasonable since we ordered takeout. All their food looked delicious in my opinion. I got the Jalapeño mozzarella burger and man was it spicy and pretty gooD! I likeD it! My fiancé got the southern comfort and he liked everything excePt the Mac n Yease. He wasn't too sure about it. I've always enjoyed the rich, full-bodied food and the charming, low-key atmosphere. You couldn't wish for a better diner, and I'm just grateful that it's vegan. I particularly love the juicy, chewy tofu in the Crazy Jamaican Burger and the abundant decadence of the Signature Plate available during Sunday brunch. We stopped here for lunch after the LeMay car museum. The ratings were really great and I had no idea they were a sister restaurant to Plum Bistro in Seattle. Do not just it by the building or the area...go in and eat!! I wanted the Sweet Jamaican wrap but they were out of sweet potato so I went for The Evil One. It's about an hour north of me and it never worked out to get by when they were open. Today the stats aligned, I had it on my calendar for over a week. I love this place. So much comfort food. It's a diner for vegans. If you want fast food, don't come here! Come here for the quality of the food! This is not fast food. It is excellent, cruelty free home cooking, with friendly service. The chili cheese fries are the best I've ever had. We've tried a few of the burgers, no disappointment there. Ugh, sorry but no. I live for vegan restaurants so I am extremely disappointed to admit I hated this one. The vibe is cool. The sweet potato fries were good. Nearly everything else we had was almost inedible. The Jamaican burger was especially unfortunate. It landed like a dry brick in my stomach and the worst part was the oily aftertaste you don't expect to find in a vegan restaurant. This place had great food. The Mac and Yease was spot on, and the wraps were great but the service was lacking. The fellow at the counter did not even acknowledge us, and made us feel unwelcome. I've been going to this place for over a decade and it is hands down my favorite Vegan restaurant for a few reasons. 1. REAL FOOD. Vegan does not mean that you only eat raw veggies, nut and berries. In the Puget Sound, outside of Seattle, most vegan places offer rabbit food (which is great if thats what you're into) or plain options (potatoes, oatmeal, cooked veggies or tofu). However, I like eating delicious food that is filling but does not make me feel heavy and gross. This place offers a huge variety and tons of protein options that they make themselves (you can buy them by the lb!). 2. TIME. They are actually making the food you order, so it is going to take some time. Just go into it knowing that. My recommendation is to look up what you want ahead of time, grab a table and order right when you get there, then go on a walk (ask the servers what the food's ETA is). OR, call in a to-go order 20-30mins ahead of time. 2. QUALITY. I've seen some complaints about the prices & portions...in reality buying quality local/organic/sustainable ingredients is not exactly cheap. After making some of the recipes at home myself (like the mac & yease) I began to understand and appreciate the time and effort that goes into creating this food. And with the portions, I too have felt a bit skimped on the mac & yease, but thats because I will always want more of it. If you feel like you should have gotten more fries or what not, just say something! I know, crazy idea. They are really accommodating. -Also, you may have been to their daughter/sister's restaurant in Seattle, Plum Bistro. If you have, then you will appreciate the larger portions and lower prices here. 3. CHILL. This is a family business, no frills, no fuss, & lots of heart. Reggae music playing, reggae posters on the wall, and an overall easygoing vibe. Could the interior use a facelift, and some stuff be a bit cleaner? Sure. But it is not unsanitary/dirty, and I've never gotten hair in my food so I don't care. If your fork or glass looks dirty, just ask for another one. Dishwashing machines aren't perfect. 4. Location. Its in Hilltop, a place that is on its way up. People get so sketched out by the neighborhood, but it is really not that bad. Get over yourself. First time? I recommend getting a burger, You can't go wrong. My faves are the New York Deli Tofu, BBQ Burger, and Big Fish. Always get mac & yease, or try the buffalo-mac (same thing but w/ vegan chili, real good). Hush puppies are also great. On Sundays they do an awesome Jazz Breakfast - love the Peppersteak and a beermosa! Sorry this got so long, but this place is so worth checking out. read more
