This was the first place I ever bought gas, on the day I got my license. Actually, to be accurate,…read moreit was diesel. I'd been driving legally for about ten minutes, and ran another car off the road trying to get over in time to make the turn. It was an experience laden with heart pounding thrills. Sixteen years and a full scale renovation later, I worked next door to this place, and I was in three times a day. I could probably have expressed the amount of money I spent in the convenience store as a single digit percentage of my income. Wawa has once again resumed that role in my life, but when I'm in the Freehold area, if I happen to need something this Exxon might sell, I will always make a point of stopping in. The owner is a very nice fellow. The aforementioned convenience store is large and well tended, offers a decent cup of coffee that is never burnt, and features the largest and cleanest single occupant bathrooms you are likely to ever find attached to a gas station. I'd break out the old "eat off the floor" cliche, but I don't usually eat off of floors, and certainly not ones in bathrooms. As for the gas, well, it combusts in my car's engine and seems to be priced competitively, so there isn't much to be said about that. The cash/credit pricing scheme being back in fashion, they are doing that (which I find annoying), but so is almost everybody else these days.

I walked up to the register expecting this to take maybe thirty seconds. The cashier looked at me and said, "I'll be right back." No problem in theory. Except what followed was one of the slowest, most passive aggressive performances I have ever seen in a store. He did not just walk slowly. He dragged himself across the store like every step was an act of protest. He went to deal with another customer somewhere else, moving at a speed that said very clearly, "Your time means nothing to me." No apology, no "Give me one moment," nothing. Just vanishing while I am standing there at the register like an idiot holding two candy bars. Then the return trip. Same slow shuffle back. No urgency, no acknowledgment that I had been waiting this whole time. By the time he finally got back, several minutes had passed for something that should have taken less than a minute. I told him, very calmly given the situation, that he should have checked me out first. His response was, "He was ahead of you." That explanation would carry more weight if he had shown any sign of trying to be efficient or considerate. Instead, he decided to prove a point. He started scanning my two candy bars with exaggerated slow movements, like he wanted to annoy me on purpose. This is not just bad service. It is contempt for the customer. If you work a register, your job is simple. Acknowledge the person standing in front of you. Move with some basic level of urgency. Do not act like ringing up two items is an inconvenience to you. And absolutely do not respond to feedback by intentionally slowing down more. Management needs to take a serious look at who they put at the front of the store, because this kind of attitude drives people away. I will go out of my way to avoid this location from now on.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE MARLBORO WALGREENS SPECIFICALLY…read more Going into the store as a shopper, everything is overpriced. LOVED it when the store was a Rite-Aid, everything was pretty much cheap and there were sales. Pharmacy at this location SUCKS. We switched to a private pharmacy after multiple hassles with Rite-Aid/Walgreens pharmacy and couldn't be happier. I submitted an application for the Customer Service Associate position at my local store. Management called back within a day and I specified that I could only work 7-8 hours weekly. Management took this information and they told me that they need candidates to fill basically all positions which I thought was great. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances I had to cancel our interview. I called Management back, telling them that I would be more than happy to meet with them at a later date. Management said that she already cancelled the application and that I'd need to reapply, which I did. I called Management to let them know that I reapplied, and when I asked about meeting at a later date, Management got extremely rude with me and she told me that she'd call back later to confirm the later date. It is now almost 48 hours since our last call and I've moved on to other job opportunities.

Nice staff here in a store that is generally well stocked with a little bit of everything. Good to have around in a pinch. The pharmacy staff is pretty helpful (although our favorite pharmacist, Joe has left) . Would love it if this one were a 24 hour location, but I guess the business here doesn't call for it. That and there is 24 hour Walgreens in Freehold already.
