Food is okay but lines are always very long and there is a lack of staff there in the mornings. Yuck.

Even so, being in the area, seeking a high protein meal, I stop in to the Millburn Deli. The establishment seems set for efficiency from the door, even with a quick seemingly (random assortment) ready-to-go refrigerator, for a quick passerby perhaps, like I become when the order I seek to buy is already in the fridge area (at the register). The establishment offers a variety of seating options. This is my first time eating a cold Sloppy Joe sandwich though not my first time eating a cold Roast Beef sandwich. The cole slaw is somewhat tasty, though the mayonnaise-y-ness is not preferable, to me, especially considering sweeter bits are present without the mayonnaise-y-ness. The cheese (Provolone-ish) adds a consistent pleasant flavor in the current mix of cold sloppiness. I prefer Roast Beef with lettuce, tomatoes, purplish-skin onions, Swiss Cheese, horse radish, pepper, oil, vinegar, and on firm wheat bread/a good firm exterior though softer chewy interior wheat-like roll. The establishment accepts different forms of payment.

The Big Dudes ‍‍platter consisted of a hot #pastrami sandwich, a stuffed pastrami knish, Rueben eggrolls, potato chips and assorted pickles. Joe and I weren't feeling desserty so we split a pastrami hotdog(ripper style). Everything was delicious and with all of the food choices in New Providence, it would have to be. It's a nice, clean shop with a friendly crew and great location on Springfield Avenue. This is your best Union County pastrami spot!

On Sunday 4/15/2026 I placed an online order via their own site at 3pm for a pickup time at 4:30 (for reference they close at 7pm) my card was charged over $50. I arrived at 4:22 to discover a poorly handwritten and placed sign on the door under the store hours (making it hard to read) saying they are closing at 4pm. I received a phone call that didn't display the business name and when you cross reference it doesn't show any association with the business from Chatham NJ (they are located in New Providence). They left no message so giving zero indication it was even from them, (technically I still didn't know if it was I'm just being charitable) and to make matters worse the call was made after the business was already closed for that day making it useless to me. I don't care for excuses they'll render under this comment if they ever see this to attempt to make themselves look better, I have all the proof and evidence like I said either theft of services maliciously or through incompetence, nevertheless stay away from them. I will never patronize them again and strongly urge anyone coming across this to do the same.

A wide variety of creative slices are available daily. Whole pies also available. Personally I enjoy the shitake slice, good even distribution of mushrooms, evenly baked, excellent. They have other interesting Italian specialties (potato croquette - a must have!). I've not tried their sandwiches yet. The owner is the nicest guy, truly dedicated to making excellent food! However, on a Saturday if you want me to rise from the couch cushions my flesh has become indistinguishable from you're gonna need to give me a good reason. He did not. Instead he just whined lmao so I made us a reason. I wanted to go to Sierra f0r mY biRthDaY tRiP t0 AcaDiA (3 years running) so I chose a spot near there based on Yelp. Very meta. It was our first time so I had limited expectations other than price. I was right lol. $38 dollars later... This place specializes in Roma pizza and my only barometer for that is all the influencers going to Italy and complaining that the pizza looks "different" than here in the US. The gag is it always looked good to me so I was hype to try it as Massa. It kinda gives focaccia pizza and Massa does some really nice flavors. The slices are set up almost like a bakery - complete with the panic/relief that sets in when the person ahead of you takes the last slice of crumb cake. But then you see a fresh pan coming out the oven. We got: -cremini mushroom -pesto -hot honey pepperoni (The Stevearoni I think and the one someone grabbed the last slice of before me) -diavola aka spicy soppressata. We split a beet, walnut, and goat cheese salad and a Diet Coke. It was so good. Crunchy, crispy, flavorful, and yes different. We loved it. The salad was fresh, perfectly dressed and bright. Overall Impressions: -clean aesthetic and actually just clean -great food -good seating This would be a 5 star experience (instead of 4.5) if the staff was more outwardly friendly. They weren't rude or anything but a hello and goodbye is what separates this place from my local spot that is 2 miles away instead of 15 and $20 instead of $40. We look forward to returning - not every week at these prices but at least once a month. Delicious!

Recently I made it a point to visit to pick up a sandwich for lunch and I'm really glad I did! Al's is very clean and welcoming. When you walk in the cashier counter is to the left, set at a right angle to that is the deli counter where sandwiches are assembled. The menu is mounted on the wall towards the back. To the right is a seating area. Across from the cashier is a fridge with various pasta dishes ready to heat up and eat along with some baked goods and lots of different kinds of chips to go with your sammich. I wound up ordering the Red & White Russian which includes Roast Beef, Turkey, Swiss, Horseradish, Deli Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato & Onion. You can have it pressed by request but I did not do so. I also ordered a side order of macaroni salad. The Red & White Russian was really good! The size was perfect and the bread was soft and chewy. There was a good amount of meat and cheese and I really liked the mustard and horseradish flavors. The macaroni salad was great. I would definitely get both of these again! I'm glad I made it a point to stop at Al's and I plan to do so again in the future!

New to the neighborhood and had been meaning to stop by and we finally did!…read more It was after dinner time so I didn't ask about the food in the back - but I hear the sandwiches here are great so I'll probably go for one eventually after I figure out what we can have, if anything. The place has its own ample parking lot and is quite cute. It is small though and has some fresh produce, dairy, and pantry items at the front, but nothing extensive. Having said that, they had bags of allergen-friendly bread crumbs made without eggs (we haven't seen this before anywhere) which I purchased for my kid with multiple food allergies. Towards the middle, there are baked goods.. cookies, cakes, bread, pies. Something to note: everything has a sticker with "Tom The Green Grocer" on them (or other stickers if it's not made there... I'm assuming the items with their sticker means they're made there) but there are no ingredients listed at all. No names either and if there are, it's generic like "assorted cookies" and the pies had the name written on the boxes (peach, forest fruit, mixed berry, blueberry crumble, apple crumble, pumpkin - off the top of my head). I ended up buying a peach pie for just under $25 each. At the back of the store, there are the prepared foods, cake slices, and sandwich counter. My daughter was eyeing the Oreo cake slices but I didn't get one for her on this trip. The slices are not equally sized and wrapped in cellophane; I noticed some are slightly bigger than others. I'm sure I'll get one for her eventually and I'll report back on that once I do. I'm under the impression a lot of people that go there are regulars. The employees there are... there somewhere (they sort of blend in... I didn't really notice a uniform). We weren't greeted when we came in and weren't asked if we needed any help. It might be because they didn't know, since the cash register has the cashier facing away from the door, but as we walked around, it seemed like people became sparse. Service was lackluster and I don't actually recall a smile. Luckily, when I finally grabbed what I was planning on buying, a new employee was manning the cash register. She answered questions with direct answers, no elaboration. I'm still not sure if the answers were adequate, haha. I had asked what was in the Forest Fruit Pie and she mentioned blueberries and strawberries. Then I asked what was in the Wild Berry Pie and she said "berries." I sort of gave up on it after that and just checked out. An intriguing little neighborhood food-centric shop. I wish they listed out the ingredients on all their baked goods and prepared food and they were a little friendlier and helpful. Even so, I'm sure I'll return again to ask my detailed questions to see if we can have any of their sandwiches. Note: the peach pie we got was quite good and yielded 8, decent sized slices. It was glued to the pie pan (I believe the filling bubbled through and got between the pie and the pan) so none of our slices are whole since we need to scrape the bottom out, but they aren't too sweet, the filling doesn't taste artificial, and the crust is nice and flaky/tender. I'm hoping the fact it was stuck to the pan is a one off and they usually aren't like this. The next time I get a craving for pie, I'll go back for round two and I'll be sure to note whether or not that one is stuck to the pan.

Good luck to new owners! Would like to see more cooked…read morevegetables on the menu and less repetition of familiar dishes.
