So I was quite excited when I found a park right across the street. The layout was simple and quickly found the correct department. Some of the items were not on the shelf so I requested some help. That's when everything went down hill. As I waited for the employee to get the items from the stockroom, I encountered the locals. I know the neighborhood had changed but having rude school-aged kids and their parents invade my personal space as if the pandemic and I were non-existent was too much. Having a nasty father attempt to verbally attack me for moving back from their rude intrusions in a narrow space without so much as a word, completely disgusted me. By the reaction of the employees behind the counter, you know these kind of guys treat them the same way. I will go all the way to Manhattan to pick up items before I come back to deal with entitled jerks who have invaded the neighborhood.

I was excited when this art supply store reopened and have visited a few times in the past months…read more This store is pretty expansive and well organized with a plethora of different types of paints, canvas, pens, paper, and much more. My first visit I picked out specific colors I needed in acrylic paint: Iridescent White {not realizing this would be shimmery which was quite a cool effect} and Quinacrione Magenta {a lovely hot pink hue}. I selected the Blick Artists brand because it seemed to be the most economical and still ended up being on the expensive side. The white color was around $4 and the magenta shade was $8! I figured that it was worth it because it's my favorite color and difficult to create. I also bought the Aquarelle 18 color water color set, which was nicely priced around $15. The next time I went specifically to get canvas because I was joining a Yelp Elite Virtual Paint & Sip Night. I was going to buy the canvas separately and picked a few different sizes, but when I got to the register, I saw that canvas being sold in bulk for only $20! At first, I couldn't decide which size I wanted. Finally, I went for the 11x14 which contained 7 pieces of canvas. Another time, I picked out a set of Blick Studio acrylic paints {my favorite medium of paint}, which includes 48 different colors. I also got the regular shade in acrylic paint: Titanium White and a hot pink pen. In total, all these purchases were approximately $43. Each time, the cashiers were friendly and efficient. They asked me if I was a teacher and since I am, I received 10% off. Prices are generally reasonable, with a few exceptions depending on the brand. Overall, a great place to shop for art supplies with a decent variety.

The framing/printing staff at this store, Maria, Xiao, and Tera, have been such a pleasure to work…read morewith this year. They've framed and matted 8 or 9 pictures and made beautiful, archival prints from 7 or 8 special photos. These items have been in my phone and closets for years, and now, finally, there's enough time and cash to get everything up onto the walls. Having tons of questions and being aware of how complicated this can be, I approached the whole thing with trepidation. And now, couldn't be happier with the results. They asked questions, explained the process, and made suggestions that worked. Everyone has a great sense of color and proportion, and all the attention to detail and documentation you could ask for when handing over your artwork. Folks, thank you for the technical (cropping, getting digital images out of my Mac and into Blick's servers) AND artistic education. With Tera's enthusiastic attitude one day and Xiao's patient, calm demeanor the next, I forgot to be anxious and actually had a good time. Prices were reasonable and definitely transparent. Some of my things were complicated and/or special, and worth the $$$ spent. On the other end, there was no attitude and no shame for being unable to spend a fortune on each piece. For instance, Maria was happy to take a low priced stock frame off the shelf so that the complicated 2-opening mat one item needed was affordable. When a pick up was enormous and heavy, Tera actually helped me out the door, down the block, and around the corner. She waited with me for an Uber to come and get it all home! Though turnaround time is not instantaneous, Blick meets promised deadlines. Last but not least, shout out to Phil, another employee who chatted with me during a short wait. Details do matter.

While…read moreon a trip to New York I popped in looking for some New York-based gift ideas for my sister. The woman behind the counter was very helpful in trying to assist me with finding something, and she even suggested some other stationary stores in the area too. I could tell she really cared about my shopping experience, and she was very knowledgeable. Well, despite her recommendations, I returned to Yours Truly days later and purchased some things from there. It just had more of what I was looking for, and I was more than happy to give the woman the business. Overall, it's a great stationary store to check out whilst in Brooklyn!

Their heaviest area of product seems to be greeting cards and wrapping paper along with pens, paper, post-its and other desk-type stationery. Staff is kind and product quality seems fine, although you will pay for that quality--that quirky card or small swatch of bespoke wrapping paper will be in the $7-10 range. Felt like the kind of shop I would normally adore, but I keep stopping in and leaving with nothing. It is incredibly niche for people interested in special or unique or bespoke products--and I do love them for that, it feels like the Brooklyn way, and I love that we have these bespoke shops for some people. This one is just a smidge too fancy and impractical and pricey for me.

I was trying to find a new Sodastream cartridge for my fiancee's VERY ancient Sodastream, and the owner generously encouraged me to bring in to the store. Not only did she help me determine what model cartridge I needed and ordered one, she personally gave me an older cartridge to use in its stead until the new one arrived--truly above and very beyond. In addition to exemplary and personal attention, they have some interesting, diverse, quality products. Most of their products--particularly for the home--are high quality and very eco-friendly. In addition to housewares and such, they have great gift items for adults as well as for kids, cool, unique greeting cards, and some unique surprises, such as a surprisingly good candy/truffle assortment and a random box of vinyl. Fun and friendly shop to stop in, and very grateful it is in our neighborhood!

Now that I'm all settled I decided to try the Intro to Sewing class ($80: supplies included) here & I am SO glad I did!! Diana Rupp, the owner was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly and open! I showed up there with absolutely no knowledge of sewing or how to work a sewing machine. But if you come with interest and an excitement to learn, you'll enjoy it. She gave us hand outs with everything we needed to know, took us through all supplies for basic sewing, taught us the parts of the sewing machine and how to thread a sewing machine. I didn't even know there was a whole process even before beginning to use one?! Lol. She went at our pace, helped us each time we made a mistake, all while having a regular conversation. None of us ever felt left behind or stressed. I was beyond excited when the class was finished. I bought some supplies from her store and even Diana's sewing book (which I highly recommend if you're dedicated). I can't wait to practice on this new hobby and make it my own! They also have tons of other classes available if you want to learn other techniques. Already eyeing the next class I'll be taking: embroidery :)) Love love loved my experience!

I left the class feeling very confident in what I learned (a little too confident, telling people I can take on those mofos on Project Runway!) I can't wait to take another class.
