Some areas of the park, including within the field house, are available for rental. The outdoor areas of the park have sports fields, a playground, and a lagoon. I must confess, Garfield Park is not my favorite park in Chicago. The playground was kind of dirty and we didn't let our kids play there, but we did really enjoy visiting the lagoon and the kids did too. We saw at least one or two heron, and several turtles, which they really had fun in the water. There's some parking, as there's a parking lot here, but most of the parking is street.

He was very friendly and confirmed that during the day, it's safe but to always keep an eye out. He recommended that nighttime is not a good time to come to the park.

When you request to cancel or pause your membership, they'll continue to take your money but won't actually process the request properly. In my case, when I asked them to cancel my membership in advance (so I wouldn't be charged again), they canceled it early out of spite because I had complained about them not pausing my account when I was traveling for 3 months. Instead of showing remorse for canceling my membership, the manager tried to blame me, until I had email as proof. Even then, the manager, Darrell Szymanski was dismissive, rude, and completely lacking in empathy or consideration. A gym is supposed to be a place where members feel valued and respected--not taken advantage of. Unfortunately, this club falls far short. They were so condescending, it's was insulting.

It was the first time on my trip I was able to really take a breath. I only had 3 days in this beautiful city, and much of this was spent filming myself eating. Sometimes I wish I could just write and not do videos as my soul is in the writing, but it's not the 1980s anymore. I have a "what am I doing with my life" at least once a day, but then I always bring it back to that J.Cole lyric from 2009: "Nobody to blame but myself cause I asked for this..." Real. Humboldt Park is lowkey in need of some TLC, but it also gives it character. The grass is overgrown and there's a good amount of litter on the grounds, but almost in an endearing way. It felt gritty. A park for locals as opposed to tourists. I really connected with it. It's been open since 1877, and I can't help but wonder what it could say if it could talk. It's seen so much. Everything feels like it's no older than 5 years (that might be be because the gym is actually that old) and it's extremely clean. They have a beautiful studio dedicated for group fitness, more cardio machines than you could ever want, and sufficient weight machines to keep you from boredom. The staff is also extremely friendly and it feels like a big family here. It's not perfect though -- the gym is closed on Sundays which is a huge bum! There's nothing like feeling productive on a Sunday by getting a sweat in. Also theres only one squat rack so after work hours it can be a bit of a wait. TRG (the rush gym), so close to perfection.

Good things about this park include the many athletic facilities. This gives the neighborhood youth something to do that's fun and safe. As is the case with many city parks, the worst thing about it is the crime in the area. It's located just north of North Lawndale, one of Chicago's most dangerous neighborhoods. The park is usually safe during the day though. It's a pretty bad idea to come here at night. There's lots of things to keep youth entertained and off the streets. Amongst these are the many athletic facilities including the field house, along with basketball courts and soccer fields. There's also a pool. Be safe when visiting here. It's usually okay if it's not at night. This is a park that's mostly safe but it's always good to be weary.

After a building was destroyed by a fire, this replaced it. This is a pretty good replacement it seems. A location close to the eastern starting point of The 606, a popular trail made on a former railroad bed. It's just west of the Kennedy Expressway. The noise kind of ruins it to be honest. Even so, it's pretty nice to just hang a bit. This is a good place for getting on and off the trail. Among the features are a basketball court and soccer field. There's also a dog friendly area and a playground. In 1970 there was a fire that destroyed a building. John P. Walsh, Jr. was a firefighter who died five weeks after getting injured. A few months after his death, the Dana Civic Organization requested this land be developed into a park, and so the transformation began. This was opened in 1973 and is dedicated to his memory. Good thing to replace a building destroyed by a fire. It's got a lot here, especially for children with the pretty big playground. This is also convenient to get to from the bicycle trails, and it's close to the Clybourn Metra station so it's accessible by using public transportation.

Well there is not too much I can write that is much different than some of the other positive…read morereviews so far.. What I can tell you though, is that this location is a no frills, nothing fancy type of gym, with all the equipment and basic amenities a gym should have. It is not your high-end, spa/juice bar/tan salon/supplement store/.. well you get the point! It is however, a great place to get your workout in. It has a great selection of free weights, cardio machines, running and walking tracks, a pool, sauna, racquet ball courts, basketball courts, heavy bag and speed bag, and offers group fitness classes and affordable personal training... Being a university employee has it's perks as the fees are very reasonable and allows us access to the bigger, nicer, east side location on Halsted with our membership. But the rates for non-employee/non-student are still cheaper than big chain gyms nearby and offer more than the small local gyms. So if you are in the Medical District and need a solid gym, this gym is a great option.
