Every time I have visited there were few to no people there, so it is kind of a hidden gem. This park doesn't have a ton of equipment, but the playground they have is pretty nice. The surface is a nice bouncy surface and there are a few slides for the kids. There are 6 different single swings and a big hammock type swing by multiple kids. The park district did a nice job or incorporating some rolling hills into the play area to make it a little more exciting than a flat park. A large rope structure allows kids of all ages to climb and hang from the different lines. The park has a nice open space for kids to run around at. There is also a full size basketball court with lights for nighttime games. This is a pretty chill park to enjoy some time with your young ones at.

I'm not sure if monkey bars are a public health hazard of some sort. I know the lead paint was. The foursquare diamonds are new --- or at least new to me. The first time I saw fourquare was in the 80's in a rival city. We used to have this thing called 'hopscotch'. I never played. This has never been such a nice neighborhood, but I've been here dozens of times when I was younger. Have fun, don't smoke, and don't let your parents put you into one of those baby-style swings when you can almost swing over the bar using the regular ones. It used to be a lot of fun to swing to the inflection point and jump as far as you can from the swing. I'm too old to tell you to do that or not to. Stay safe though.

The park is right in the heart of downtown Northbrook, with an award-winning baseball diamond, seasonal soccer field, picnic areas, playground, paths, an old-fashioned gazebo and lush greenery.  The park is surrounded by a variety of eateries and restaurants, making it very convenient to dine in or get takeout to enjoy at one of the picnic tables. The Village Green Park holds an important place in my heart, as our daughter used to play here every day when we lived within walking distance. My husband used to bring her here to play every evening while I was cooking dinner. When she was a bit older, they would ride their bikes or rollerblade to the park, get ice cream at Baskin-Robbins, and then come home. It is a special park that was part of her growing up. Northbrook Days used to be held in Village Green, until the village decided that it was too damaging to the grassy area.  Fortunately, Art in the Park of Northbrook still happens here annually, making it our favorite activity to come to browse at the art and look at the dogs. Thank you, Northbrook Park District, for taking such good care of all 23 parks. We are happy to see our tax dollars being put to good use and to have such wonderful parks for our community to enjoy.

They have a preschool that operates out of Maine Park which seems to be pretty popular as well and I'll be looking into that next year. The leisure center almost looks like a school itself, with the lockers and classrooms--I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it once was. Our room is a good size with toys and stuff for the kids to play with. There's some parking along the east side of the building, but when I've been here for class it's been full, so you may be looking for street parking. There is a nice sized playground in the back. There may be three, though one is fenced off for use with the preschool I think; there's one with plain old grass and then another with the rubbery ground cover for smaller children. There's even a zip line here which I'm sure my little one will have lots of fun on when she's old enough. This is my first experience with the Park District and at this field house but since it's only a few blocks away I think we'll definitely be making use of this resource.

There is a big soccer field for games, the usual playground and a school-sized field house with classrooms. It is also home of the PR Park District preschool program. The parking is rather small and often full during games or other events, but there's plenty of street parking... Or just take a bike and avoid the hassle altogether. On the other side of the park, there is a huge prairie and walking trail that spans about 2/3-mile around. You see ducks, geese, frogs, turtles along the way. Come on a spring or summer day and it's like an exotic getaway inside of a residential neighborhood. There is a patio-like overlook to see the prairie. Come in late June and you see a yellow sea of daisies in bloom. Truly spectacular, maintained by park volunteers. You also see kids fishing in the swamp sometimes, which is catch & release. Then there is the Wildwood Nature Center which has live animals native to the midwest, as well as lizards, snakes, and other small critters kids love to see. Admission is free, though operating hours are pretty short. It might be the best kept secret in Park Ridge.

And it's got a pirate theme! There's a toddler play structure (or one that's more toddler friendly, anyway) and a bigger kid play section. There's a climbing structure and new fangled monkey bars. There is a covered area with a half dozen so picnic tables. There's also a great splash pad right next to the playground (can't wait to take my kiddo there!). The splash pad has an admission charge, or if you have a Park Ridge pool pass you can gain entrance using that. There's a nice amphitheater here as well. They have summer concerts or movies in the park that take place here. Last week they had a family concert and I'm hoping to take my kiddo to the next one. This is also a historic site; the Park Ridge Historical Society is located here, too. Parking is pretty good though with some of the popular activities they host here I'll bet it pays to be early.

I give it 4 stars because here's why: -easy access of parking: there's a parking lot and easy to enter. -entrance fee: $5 per person for Park Ridge residents and $8 for non-Park Ridge residents -plenty of chairs for the littles and lounge chair for adults, including under umbrellas for shade -relatively small so you don't necessarily have to "follow" your child everywhere, however this also says about the price you're paying -bathroom is not such great quality for a park that charges; same as Chicago beach quality that is free Prior to going to the park, I read there are too many kids on the slide. I didn't quite understand until I got there. There's a very short and small water slide. There are many kids who want to ride it and no one to monitor it. I stood to watch my child and signaled when to come down (which I didn't mind). However, other kids were piling on and on, on top of each other, but it wasn't my job to tell them what to do. The slide is also rather fast but the landing area is short so many kids go to the concrete area and could easily get hurt. I wish the splash pad and playground would connect better instead of a long walk, but I could see the reason because splash pad requires pay whereas playground doesn't. It was worth a visit. It was clean and well maintained.
