I recommend this place because the park is giant and big space to play so I totally recommend this place for kids too

Warren Park is a very large park in West Ridge, on Chicago's far north side. It's the largest on the north side I think. I think I might have been here once when I lived in West Ridge a mile away. They have facilities for baseball, basketball, and soccer, as well as a 9-hole golf course (waaaaay on the northeast side of the park, at the corner of Pratt and Ridge), and tennis courts that double as pickleball courts. There's a path that runs through the park as well so you can walk or job, but I also saw people riding bikes on it when I was here. In wintertime, they have an ice rink. You can play cricket here, racquetball, and there are three playgrounds. The field house is large too. There's a gymnasium and the Northtown Garden Society operates out of here. I was surprised to see the garden club because I had been curious if there was one around here but couldn't find one. I'm sure one of if not their major project is the maintenance of the Warren Park community garden, which is between Western Avenue and the field house. Near the field house, on its south side, is a work of public art that doubles as a place to sit and take a load off. The history of Warren Park is a particularly interesting one and combines the politics of Chicago. The land was once the Edgewater Golf Course, a privately owned course. It was purchased and the community soon learned that the developers wanted to put a high rise and shopping center here. It was indeed re-zoned by the city when community efforts failed, and those groups (called the Allied North Side Community Organizations) appealed to the governor, who signed legislation making it a state park to preserve the open land, calling it the "first major state park in Illinois created in an urban area". The state only purchased about a third of it, though, and the remaining land was still undergoing development, much to the dismay of the surrounding community. Is the end, the Chicago Park District chose to condemn it and turn it into parkland, and the state transferred its property to the city. This park as a very large parking lot, which is good since there are so many activities here. There are bathroom facilities inside the field house as well. The field house and playgrounds are accessible, and depending upon one's accessibility needs other areas of the park may be as well. read more

This is such a beautiful park to walk in. I used to be a regular walker there before I got a dog. But after I decided to be a dog walker (two years, 508 walks, 89 dogs) and then adopted a dog, this park is no longer fun for me. There are entirely too many dog owners who act like leashes cost $1,000 and just won't use them. This past weekend, this guy's Chihuahua comes running up to a dog I regularly walk and that dog is terrified of dogs. Too many times, pet owners think their dogs are harmless because "they don't bite," but they have no clue whether the dog that's being run up on DOES. This didn't happen at all when I had a German Shepherd and a Labrador Retriever. Bigger dogs tend to make random dogs move out of the way. With a medium-sized dog, I think people incorrectly assume my dog is Lassie. She is not. On Juneteenth weekend, another guy was in the park with his two (grand?)kids, and had a loose pit and a loose puppy. The puppy ran up on my dog, who is a 50/50 on being aggressive around dogs (but LARGELY improved after a relative got a dog). That puts me in an awkward position because if my dog bites THAT dog, the owners of the loose dog will try to blame me. This turned into a yelling match between myself and an onlooker while the guy with the dogs was peacefully sleeping on a bench near the swings, not watching his grandkids or his own dogs. Every time I try to give this otherwise beautiful park a chance, I realize it is so much less stressful to walk around in when I'm dogless. By default, I'm walking my dog somewhere several times per day, but even my dog jerks away if I walk in the direction of this park. You know a park is not the most inviting when your dog yanks hard enough to almost pull her own harness off to get away from it. If dog owners would leash their dogs, I could EASILY give this park a 5 out of 5 though. If you're a bicyclist or a walker, it's unlikely you'll have any problems. read more

As other posts say, there's just so much to do here, year-round. The landscape's nicely grown in, and there's some cool fauna (if you know where to look - I've seen owls and coyotes.) Minus one star because it's gotten a little worn out. After every rain, the water pools over the jogging paths, making them useless - this could be easily fixed. Other than that, it's a beautiful and diverse place to enjoy outdoors. read more

I love warren park. Two times around the park is a 5K. Great ice skating rink in the winter, and good golf course in the summer. There is also a sledding hill and on winter days like today there are tons of kids enjoying the winter fun. In the summer people use the hill to exercise and run. Nice pathways for walking the dog, great tennis courts and adequate restrooms. Good parking and lots of garbage bins around. They have a morning dog group that meets by the hill and the owners are responsible and friendly. It's a nice and safe park that is well lit at dusk. read more

This park has everything! I'd have to say it easily has the most diverse amount of things to do there in any City of Chicago (or any other city) that I've been too and I've been to a lot of parks. They (off the top of head) have a sled hill, hockey rink, tennis courts, two separate playgrounds at either side of the Western side of the park, two bike/jogging paths, a club house (I've never been inside that) a couple baseball diamonds, a giant open area, plenty of trees, an adjacent golf course (I'm not sure if that's free), and not to mention the sheer size of the place. They also have a couple of those running/jogging stretching stations. There is only a fence on one side of the park (Pratt) but even that side has opening if you are trying to enter mid park. I love this place. It pretty clean to especially considering it's on two major streets. read more

Park is nice needs some repairs on tracks on Pratt side of the park roots from the trees have damaged the tracks unfortunately. What's bad about folks who come to this park you can see it on pictures they trashed it badly not everybody but some folks don't like parks since they destroy nature's beauty throwing beer cans and everything else unfortunately I hope city add cameras especially on the sliding hill that's the part of the park that's mostly trashed . read more

The park is located on the corner of Western and Pratt / by the 7-eleven/. Warren Park is great for walks, and that's what I enjoy doing. Paved paths make it way easier on my feet. The a parking lot is a big plus. There is a ice skating rink during winter. I haven't tried it out, so cannot say how that is. You will find fields for multiple sports, plus a tennis court.There is a play area with swings for kids. I see kids enjoy it a lot. During summer time I see people playing music, having picnics. Or like me ,just relaxing and walking. I recommend Warren Park to everyone. read more

What is there not to love about a park 3 blocks from your home? Especially a park this humongous (90 flipping acres!!)? There is a little something for almost everyone: Golf, Ice Rink (in winter duh!), Skate park, tennis, softball/baseball, tables for checkers, jogging/walking paths, gym facilities, playground, and programming for the whole family, and so much more. Oh and I must not forget the sledding hill--seriously you can just go for that in the winter, especially if you hadn't noticed how flat Chicago is & you would be hard pressed to find a hill. I love wandering around this park & seeing all the people enjoying themselves--it makes me happy. read more

I'm so happy that I live near this great park; as others have said, there's something for everyone. I go running there, and will be going skating as soon as they open the rink Nov. 28th. Can't wait! And, I should mention that they have classes, too, like yoga/pilates on Tuesday eves during the winter...and piano, guitar, and other art & sports classes for kids, adults, and seniors. I love living near Warren Park. We are condo dwellers, so it's like a giant backyard...that we have to share with like a thousand other people. Which is fine, we're not selfish. One thing though: please for the love of all deities keep your frackin' dog on a leash! I walk mine in this park almost every day, and almost every day I have to fend off an off-leash dog whose owner sings out, "Don't worry, he's friendly!" Terrific, but mine aren't, so LEASH YOUR DOG. Speaking as a former seasonal employee, i can sincerely say that I love this park!! Granted I only have a winter perspective, but i will share. Now I'm not proud of what I'm about to say-but BE FOR WARNED they don't sharpen, or clean their rented ice skates But besides that the place is clean, the staff has it together, the park is huge! they have their very own sledding hill! i really felt the Christmas spirit there! read more

Me + Ice Skates.... Parents, keep your kids close 'cuz this girl is out o' control! For some reason, ice skating sounded like fun to me but trying to elbow my way around Millennium Park did not. So a friend and I headed up to Warren Park for an afternoon of skating. Parking was easy (free) the rink was wide open (free) and skate rental was a breeze ($5). Be warned: they only offer hockey skates, meaning no toe-pick on the front if you're used to that for stopping. Needless to say, this meant I was saying a lot of "look out little kid, I have no BRAKES here!" I am pleased to report I managed to stay in motion for over an hour and did not stop at all, BUT also did not fall OR maim any small children. All in all, a success. AND I realized hockey skates are way more comfortable than figure skates. What's up with THAT?!? The crowd was mainly parents with kids, couples on dates, and us (two wobbling crazy ladies). The rink was pretty sizable and wasn't overly crowded. It's fun to skate around outdoors and a nice touch that music pulses through outdoor speakers. It's almost like ice-dancing at the Olympics. Almost. BOTTOM LINE: A fun & inexpensive way to spend an afternoon. Something different! read more

GREAT place to find an empty tennis court on a Saturday afternoon. There may be a small vegetable garden growing through the cracks in the surface, but in this city of slim tennis pickings, I'm not particular. Also a great place to watch kids fly kites on the neighboring tennis court. And have one of those urchins run over in the middle of your point and steal your balls. Not to mention the old Indian guy who brushes his teeth in the drinking fountain. And lots of Mexican frozen treat pushcart vendors! Solid A- overall. read more

My husband and I came here over the weekend to skate and were not disappointed. It's a little far from us but worth the drive. The rink is pretty big for a park district rink and best of all, it's free to skate; only have to pay to rent skates. There's a nice area inside that's heated and the bathrooms were clean. Great neighborhood park, but I'm checking it off as yet another place a woman can't go for an afternoon stroll without random vagrants commenting on her body. My boyfriend did take me ice skating here over the winter, which was an awesome way to spend the day. I'm happy to have this park near my apartment and I'm sure it's great for families, but unfortunately I've learned the hard way I can't come here by myself. read more

Went here for ice skating last week with the kids, the staff was very nice, prices were affordable for renting skates, which include use of the rink. The rink itself was just ok. It was hard to skate because the ice wasn't snoot even though they just cleared the rink. So it was hard to teach the kids to skate because they kept running into cracks in the ice. But overall, for the price and location (lots of free parking), 4 stars. read more

Pretty great little neighborhood park. The ice skating is way better than trying to deal with all of the tourists downtown. It's only $7 to rent skates and skate for as long as you want. They even have heaters up for the people who aren't skating. Just make sure you bring drinks or snacks if you're going to be there for a while because they didn't have anywhere to buy anything. read more

Went to naboorhood big event 1997. Food rides and tons of fun whole family. Has free parking. Skate board park. And great for bikes too.

I've been to a lot of parks in my day, and I have to say that this is a good one. My only concern is that I do not like watching dogs defecate. People are great about picking up after them, but I just don't like watching it happen. Maybe if there was some sort of "Dog Poop Tent" people could take their dogs into, so that I don't have so see them do it. That would just make this park so much classier. read more

Came here today after a Pho-Phix and hit the ice for some laps with the family. Damn, I just wish this type of activity could be done every day as we had a blast. The ice was a bit choppy, but it was still just a perfect day for cruising around the rink. Just went ice skating. 7$ if you rent skates, 3$ if you have your own. They give you wrist bands to wear at time of purchase. They have a staff member on the ice checking for wrist bands. Kind of took the fun out of the community family friendly ice rink- a bit too intense. He stopped my boyfriend and I while skating asking where ours were. I pulled them out of my pocket and showed him. That was fine til my b friend had to leave the rink and loosen his skates. As he attempted to come back onto the ice, he was asked by the same guy, show me your wrist band. He had to call me over so I could get them out of my pocket again. It's nice to have a park nearby but this guy could take his job a bit less seriously. read more

In April, a state-of-the-art skate park and six station baseball batting cages open to the public. The 80-by-80 foot skate park, situated to the north of the fieldhouse, contains the same equipment used by pros, including quarter pipes, pyramid combinations, street spines, launches, grind rails and fun boxes. Admission fee is $2 and is intended for skateboarders and in-line skaters only. Step up to the plate and test your batting skills at the batting cages. At the nine-station cage, choose from a variety of speeds that range from 40 to 70 mph and select either baseball or softball (12-inch) styles of play.The batting cages cost $1 for 15 pitches (token machine is located inside the fieldhouse, and only accepts $1 and $5 bills.) Weathering permitting, the cages will open April 18 - September 24, 2006. The hours of operation are Monday, Closed; Tuesday - Friday, 4 - 8 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 11 am - 5pm. Bring your own bat. Fitness enthusiasts can hop onto a paved path that winds throughout the park for walking, jogging or biking. Golf-lovers head to the Robert A. They need to keep the park benches, and slides clean. And it would be wonderful if dogs wasn't allowed. I'm tired of hearing "my dog friendly" and walking past dog poop. UGH! If you can't keep your animal on its lease and away from a park that's obviously for people then you shouldn't be allowed into the park. read more

awesome time skating today. Nice sized rink, skaters were pretty good about dodging my 4 year old, and staff is so nice. Note: no lockers, but no one messed with our stuff. I would not leave valuables there. Overall, so much less crowded than other rinks and free, easy parking---can't beat it. read more

This past winter, I visited the Warren Park Ice rink and I must say that it is the best park district ice rink out there. The staff is amazing, there was this cute cashier with glasses and scruffy facial hair, I never found out his name but he was very friendly. The price was amazing and I enjoyed everything about it. I highly recommend this park in the winter! read more
