Beautiful view, off of Touhy ave

I'm a huge fan of this park. Located in the Des Plaines area, not too far from I-90, Lake Park is a terrific park that has a lot of open grass, a large lake in the middle, and plenty of street parking. This park hosts summer festivals like "Fall Fest" and the parking can be tough, but on normal nonevent days, I never had any issues finding street parking along Lee Street. There are several permanent barbecue grills that you can use (bring your own charcoal) and also a sheltered picnic area too. I have seen several small sail boats sailing around, as well as paddle boats. I'm honestly have not tried to sail or rent, but assuming some of the boats look nearly identical, I'm guessing there is a place to rent them. There's a great walking path along most of the parameter of the lake as well as a kid area playground. I highly recommend grabbing some food somewhere and going to Lake Park for a picnic. If you're into the lake, hate going to the crowded Lake Michigan lakefront, definitely consider going to Lake Park! BATHROOM REVIEW: As of the writing of this review, we are still in Phase3 of the Illinois COVID19 plan, and the bathrooms were unfortunately locked

I can't believe I have never heard of lake opeka until just a few weeks ago! This place has it all! Kayaking, paddle boarding, golfing, running trail, volley ball courts, dogs, playground etc. I can't wait to go back and spend the day! Very beautiful spot in Desplaines IL

I seriously LOVE this park and the beautiful view of Lake Opeka on a sunny summer day. This is a gorgeous place to be in Des Plaines. They have so much to do. You can rent kayaks/paddleboats so you can go in the man-made lake. They also have fishing areas (that tell you what type of fish are living in there), they have a path around the lake where you see so many people jogging and walking around (you also see tons of super cute dogs), and there are benches all around the path so you can just relax and enjoy the view. There are tons of ducks that swim around, there is a playground for kids and an ice cream truck is always around, and there is also a picnic area. There is also a golf course. I have come here on a normal day, but they also have a carnival here one weekend in the summer, and it is a lot of fun for kids and families. They have great food and they have rides and live bands during this event. Other seasonal events include movies in the park and a fishing event. They also added a Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall here that tributes those individuals who served in the Vietnam War, as well as their families. You honestly cannot go wrong with coming here, but like any other park that has a lake and grass, there are tons of bugs swarming around, so you may get eaten alive by gnats and mosquitos haha... I warned you.

A beautiful park located in Des Plaines. So happy that 'The Wall That Heals' made a tour stop here September 28-October 1. A moving tribute to those who served in Vietnam and their families. This wall is a scaled down version of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall) that's located in Washington D.C.. I highly recommend checking out this exhibit before it leaves town.

Impressive. Half public park, half public golf course - not walkers, joggers or bicycles! I read that sign. The people were nice and it was a pleasant day out so there were plenty of people. For a local park this deserves 5 stars. Clean, well placed, the lake. It was worth my visit.

Great little park and golf course located near O'Hare Airport. I come here often for lunch to sit and just watch the water and the fisherman. It is a small lake, more of a pond really, but the Community really frequents the area which keeps it lively and quaint. Many people run the track on the outside of the lake or walk it over lunch hours. Definitely an area to check out especially if you're interested in paddle boats, kayaks or fishing boats. Again it's a small lake, but it definitely makes for an entertaining afternoon without having to travel too far.

There are two sections to the park, with the big rocket being the centerpiece. It's huge, multiple levels. There are at least three slides coming out from it. Lots of places for kids to climb and scurry and jump. But that part was too big for my kiddo so we went to the smaller section a few steps away. There was a structure to climb, several slides, some bars, and then even a little further away a bunch of swings. I tried to keep her from seeing the swings, to be honest, since I didn't want to have to deal with an upset kiddo when we had to leave without enough swing time. She played around a bit but didn't seem as interested in the playground. We went down a slide or two, but some of them had standing water since it has been a bit rainy recently. The playground isn't technically fenced in, but it is effectively so because it's behind the practice courts which are all fenced in. It'd be hard for your kid to get away from you. There's a parking lot for the Norridge Park District building but the neighborhood parking could be tricky, especially in the summer because there is restricted parking from Memorial Day to Labor Day (ostensibly because of the large pool structure that would keep the residents from having any parking for three months otherwise). The terrain of the park is wood chips and soil, decidedly not my favorite (maybe especially after a rain) and she got dirty pretty quick. I may bring her back when she's old enough to play on the rocket ship, but this won't be a park that we return to much if ever.

I've been hearing about this park for a while and we were able to take a visit over there today…read more I'm glad I knew what I was looking for because Google Maps was going to take me to a small playground on the other side of the school, rather than Little Bear Park which is on the very corner of Patriot and Chestnut (and is almost entirely fenced in, which makes it attractive with little kids). The Little Bear Park is actually a section within the larger Gallery Park, so you may need to put that in if your GPS is confused about LBP. This park was established as part of the redevelopment of the military airfield in Glenview. Overall, I was disappointed in the park, but there were some things I really loved about it along with those that left a bit to be desired. First, it looked like a gorgeous, romantic garden like you might envision from an Austen novel. Truly a beautiful setting, with a small hedge maze and a several picnic tables. Quite an idyllic little spot within the larger park, and ostensibly where it gets the "garden park" part of its name. There's also a really awesome water feature here. It's really large, and unlike some "splash pads" that are little more than a tall pipe sticking out of the ground, this one had several arms coming out of the ground of different heights. It also had some water coming from spots in the ground, for a lot of different ways to play. My kiddo got soaked and loved it. Sadly, the playground section looked kind of old and worn. It has a cute castle/medieval theme, but all the play equipment was quite faded. Of more concern was that the playground terrain, which was that composite rubbery stuff, was broken off in quite a few places; more than once my babe brought me small or large pieces. Seems potentially fraught in a few different ways, but it was weird since in all the parks I've been to with that kind of ground cover I haven't seen chunks of it missing throughout the playground. There's lots of parking at/around this park, because it shares space with a middle school and park district headquarters. The playground itself isn't the attraction for me--though if we are already in Glenview, I might stop--but I would absolutely return for a beautiful picnic in the garden, and that's what really makes it shine.

Heads up if your kids like swings: there are none at this park. But there's a cool splash pad, a…read morehedge maze, a play structure, and a huge sand pit area.
