I just went to the new location on Froom Ranch Way for the first time since they moved from their very cramped quarters in the Vons on Broad Street. On first glance, the waiting room looks clean and sleek, with an easy check-in. Then, when I had a sudden urgent need for a restroom, I realized that there is no access from the waiting room to the restroom inside the area where the blood draws are done, which is beyond a locked door, and no receptionist, so no way to ask for entrance. I wound up calling out at the door to ask if I could come in and use the restroom. One of the techs (not Kat--she's terrific) yelled back that I couldn't come in. I responded that my need was urgent. She opened the door and angrily said she was with a patient and she'd let me in this time but I could never do this again. I could understand her frustration at being called away from doing a blood draw, but it shouldn't have come to that; there should be access to a restroom from the waiting room (as there was even in the tiny quarters at the previous location). People are waiting 30, 40 minutes or more, and they tell you to drink lots of water before you come to make the blood draw easier, and what if someone had a medical emergency, such as feeling faint from fasting or having chest pain? You can't reach anyone inside. And if you decide to leave and find a restroom in a nearby store in the mall, you can't let them know you're coming back, and you're liable to lose your place in the queue. If it weren't for the fact that my doctor insists on using Quest, and I live in the north county so this location is by far the closest one to me, I'd never go back again--the disregard for the humanity of the patients is remarkable. I'd have given it zero stars, but Kat is an excellent phlebotomist. read more
