I was very worried reading all of these reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. I booked my appointment for a urine drug screen for my nursing program about a week ago. It was for 12:40-12:55pm. I arrived at 12:15, checked in on the tablet with my confirmation # and ID. I was called at 12:30 and it literally took 5 minutes. I was back to my car at 12:36, even before my appointment time. urine test was super fast and simple. Maybe I got lucky, it didn't seem like it was too busy, 3 or 4 other people were there and they also went in and out rather fast. Keep in mind that they only do urine drug screen from 12-4pm despite being open beyond those hours. overall great experience. read more

I have always been treated well and efficiently by Quest and its staff at the Noe office. The new automated check-in is fast and efficient. The technicians whip quickly through their work, verify your identity, and send you and your samples along your ways. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT if you can! Lately I have seen no lines, but if there is a queue, people with appointments get their time and walk-ins get pushed down the stack. What I wish was different: 1. They don't seem to keep staff. I like the technicians, but they're always new. 2. Their billing system is annoying. They email a notice saying you owe so much money after the insurance paid them, and they give you a link to pay online. BUT, they don't give you an invoice number in the email so when you try to pay, the online system won't let you. Maybe there's a way to get an ID or something, but I have been frustrated. I have to wait for the paper bill and then type the invoice number from it into the online payment system. read more

This company is terrible. Don't use QuestDirect. The descriptions of the tests are not accurate and the don't tell you that until you arrive at the location for testing. Also the $9.30 Dr fee is really just an up charge and no service is provided. Now that I need a refund there is no direction on how to get a refund. Oh and the Dr fee for which I received no services, is not refundable. Try any other lab than a Quest facility, the people are rude and not helpful. Don't do it. Updated 3/2/2021 - I tried contacting customer service yesterday at the number the company provided. Consistent with my original experience with QuestDirect, I was passed around from person to person and was given no help on how to resolve my problem. No one at customer service knew what to do. This company continues to not meet expectations. read more

Went for a drug-screen for work purposes. Very quick. No appointment needed. Depending on company and what you request to be tested. Some require pee + blood test. All the stars for ease and speed. I went without an appointment, was seen basically immediately. Costs seemed higher than what I'm used to, but the lady printed out everything for me which was nice. I was in and out of there very quickly. Unfortunately she was not able to get all the blood from my right side so she went for the left. I guess I was a little dehydrated, but the left side went much better. I saw her digging around a bit on the right. I have a large bruise now down literally half my arm that hasn't disappeared for a couple weeks unfortunately, although no pain. read more

Zero stars! Avoid this location!! Besides it being rundown and rather dirty, the bald male nurse wearing glasses was completely awful! He was condescending, rolled his eyes at me and took passive aggressiveness to a whole new level! You expect kindness and understanding from people in this line of work, but this particular health 'care' provider needs to find a new line of work because he has no concept of patient care at all. If you value your mental health definitely go someplace else! read more

I was there for a employer req'ed urine drug test. I walked in without an appointment 3rd in line and was seen in 15 minutes. The sign up process was easy. Yuk Wa Chan was the name of the employee who worked with me. He was extremely professional as well as polite, and he worked with me to navigate the confusion with my employer's account and the requirements I needed to fulfill. He verified the authenticity and sterility each step of the way. I felt I was treated fairly, professionally, and respectfully. read more

Worst customer service. Staff is rude abrupt and unengaged. Signed in as walk in. My name was listed on the monitor. Sat there for a while , no other walk-ins in the lobby and only one person listed as checked in for appointment. After wasting my time someone comes out and yells out from the back. No walk-ins! If you don't have appointment you can't be seen. No explanation no apology no acknowledgment that I was sitting there waiting and wasting my time. I don't expect concierge treatment but at minimum try not to be an asshole to the customers you are serving. read more

Was a bit traumatized by the angry phlebotomist here. I came in 10 minutes before closing as a drop-in client and was sitting in the waiting room. The phlebotomist came in and -- without me saying a single word -- started screaming at me, saying "I can't believe you showed up 10 minutes before closing. That's insanely rude! You're forcing us to stay an entire extra hour to process your blood!! That's not ok -- we won't do it! You have to leave." Then he stormed out without waiting for my reply. It was such an aggressive and unprompted encounter that I was shocked and the receptionist apologized profusely. If the lab only accepts drop-in patients before a specific time, then it should say that on the website. I timed my visit based on its listed closing hours. Aside from that, if the phlebotomist had been in any way polite, explaining the situation calmly, I would've understood. But the fact that he started yelling at me out of the blue really jarred me. I tried to put myself in his shoes -- maybe he had a hard day or needed to leave right at closing time for an important reason. But I'd had a hard day too -- I found out a close childhood friend of mine was in the Vegas shooting (they survived), and my office had been broken into with my laptop stolen. The unprompted aggression from a total stranger at the tail end of an intense day was....honestly so awful. I left there and cried. read more

All the people posting pictures of their bruises are spot on. The guy who took my blood is a phlebotamist from hell. He could not get blood and gave me an attitude which is just incredible. I had aweful bruises that really hurt and I've never had this issue before anywhere. I went to get my nails done a few days later and the women actually commented on why I had all these bruises on my arm. I think they suspected drug use. I get my blood drawn at least 6 times a year at Kaiser with no issues. I actually had to walk out. Fire that guy. Today I went to the Quest in San Rafael after waiting like 8 days for my bruises to go away. The guy said my veins were hard to find however he said that he just needed to draw using a different method. It still took him all of two secs to draw my blood and the whole appointment was like 5 mins tops. He told me this guy sounded inexperienced. read more

Yelp says 4 stars means, "Yay! I'm a fan" - it's hard to be a fan of a clinical lab, but my time spent here was quick and relatively painless, garnering 4 stars from me. I came in without an appointment at 8 am on Monday. Was the first one in and the first one out in 10 minutes flat. The lab was clean, the phlebotomist was friendly and gentle, and the receptionist (although a bit cranky on a Monday morning) was friendly and efficient. read more

I am a nurse, i take care of very sick people in the icu. I know how to draw blood. These people, do not. Spent all morning here- and I am leaving with no blood work done! I am a 29 year old healthy person, do not have issues with blood draws, even when in the ED for emergent issues & i was poked multiple times!!!! They were not using right technique, sometimes not keeping things clean, even tried to have two ppl at once do one draw blood ( never seen that one before) which resulted in the needle coming out when they were finally getting blood return. Labcorp- you better get some better training for your employees!!! Do not go here!!!! *****update****** Someone mentioned that i was talking about labcorp- no. This is the correct company, i just puchesed my lab test thru labcorp- the unprepared and inexperienced phlebotomists were from here! read more

The phlebotomist or lab technician guy had really bad attitude and I wasn't able to hear or understand him at all because he was mumbling. Immediately he told me that they don't take my insurance, even though I was referred by my doctor. He also kept raising his voice everytime he talked. I went a month ago to a different quest diagnostics, and they took my insurance right away. But this guy kept saying no the one I went to were wrong and to ask my doctor. Which I left saying that's disappointing and I felt like I wasted my time. I called my doctor and they were as confused as me, and said that quest diagnostics does take my insurance. So that guy doesn't know his job and really shouldn't be working there. Don't come here, listen to the reviews. read more

Great experience and huge shout out to my technician Martin who was absolutely wonderful! The online scheduling process was quick and convenient. Parking was surprisingly easy. The digital check in process using the QR code was efficient and I was called in exactly at my scheduled appointment time by Martin. I have an aversion to needles and Martin put me at ease immediately and have to say he has a magical touch! I felt no discomfort whatsoever despite the multitude of draws that were required. I was simply AMAZED at how quick Martin was - he new that I was nervous and he worked with lightening speed and was so caring and nurturing, checking in on me the entire time. He gave me helpful tips after the draw and made sure I felt 100%. Martin is FANTASTIC and I'm so grateful! Thank you for making a potentially challenging experience a wonderful one! I hope Quest recognizes you for the invaluable asset you are! read more

The phlebotomist who drew my blood today was AMAZING. I dread getting my blood drawn, but I must say this was the easiest and least uncomfortable blood draw I've ever experienced. Barely felt the needle go in, and he switched the vials with such finesse that I barely felt any stinging or pain at all. I had a ton of blood drawn so I got quite dizzy afterward, but they helped me feel safe and comfortable until I felt better. I am impressed! The facility itself had a bit of an awkward setup/layout (it's an old victorian house that felt haphazardly retrofitted into a lab clinic), but other than that the experience was great. Checked in with a QR code and the technician called me in before I even sat down in the waiting area, and I was outta there in just a few minutes. read more

UPDATED 12/20/2014: It's with a heavy heart that I update my last review on 12/15/2014 from 5 stars to a one star. It was too long to write my explanation in the last review so here is my reasoning why. OR IF YOU'RE IN A HURRY JUST READ THE BOLD TO AVOID ANY PERMANENT HEALTH INJURIES HERE. I have to say Daryl and Gina are very friendly but after doing some phlebotomy research through several phlebotomy CE websites, phlebotomy textbooks, phlebotomy protocols from different medical centers, I've now decided their venipuncture (blood draw) techniques are UNSAFE. When they could not get a successful blood draw on the 1st 3 tries, they PROBED and FISHED for my veins. I have very delicate and hard to find veins. But all phlebotomy training resources and guidelines say you should NEVER PROBE or FISH for veins. Repositioning the needle (rotating it slightly or pulling it out just a little bit or pushing it in just a little bit) if there's no blood coming out (intial veniputure failure) is considered ok. But probing or fishing for a vein after the needle is inserted and there is no blood flow is NOT SAFE. Probing or fishing for a vein is when there is excessive repositioning or needle movement (like withdrawing the needle and re-angling the needle, even if the needle is not completely withdrawn, or tugging and pulling). Or another way of putting it is "fishing for a vein" is moving the needle around after insertion to try to locate a vein. WHY IS PROBING AND FISHING FOR VEINS DANGEROUS? 1. Because you can accidently hit and DAMAGE A NERVE PERMANENTLY. And if it's your ulnar or median nerves or nerves that run off of those - you could get permanent hand damage or chronic pain along your arm. Imagine not being able to type (or do your job) or use your thumb to turn your door knob for the rest of you life... 2. You can get VEIN SCARING. So the next time you try to do a venipuncture (blood draw) at that vein you can't since there's too much scar tissue in the way. And there's only so many veins you can do blood draws from with less risk. 3. FISHING and PROBING can lead to hemolysis and actually change your blood lab results - so not only do you risk getting hurt but your labs possibly aren't even accurate! As of now, my venipuncture bruises are almost gone and I'm able to use both hands. I can extend my left arm but feel some soreness still in both arms and ghost pains. But I'm counting myself as lucky since I can move all my fingers at the moment. But I might have excessive vein scarring at all 4 puncture sites Gina and Daryl tried. (Also FYI, blood draws should never be PAINFUL - even if they forewarn it's going to be painful. That's a HUGE SIGN SOMETHING IS WRONG. And what happened to me was wrong.) I'll update you guys next time I get a blood draw if my veins have scarred to the point I can't get blood draws from them. In short, I've change my mind and won't come back for my safety. Just to clarify, Gina and Daryl have GREAT bedside manner and that's 5 stars. BUT I feel their blood draw methods are UNSAFE. The Mt. Zion Quest Diagnostics staff never smile - but at least they don't use unsafe blood drawing techniques. I might go to Mt. Zion QD next time. read more

OUCH! Get your blood tests from someone else. The first try she wiggled the needle around after she stuck it in. Really? Still unable to get a good flow of blood, she eventually gave up and switched to the other arm. I've had my blood drawn too many times to count and have received many compliments on my "easy" veins and "fast" blood. When someone has trouble, it's not me, it's them. Save yourself the pain... literally. read more

I have a medical condition that requires me to have frequent lab work done, so I am in here to have my blood drawn several times each year. Orland, the phlebotomist who manages this location and is normally the person drawing the blood, is always friendly and cheerful, and is one of the best I've encountered... I usually don't even feel the needle going in. He's been there for many years now, and I recommend him highly. Although I've occasionally had an insurance glitch that I had to call to clear up, and the wait times are sometimes a little long, the problems are rare. These days, you can go to their web site and resubmit your insurance information if there's a mix-up, and I've found that takes care of most problems with no hassle. I've been completely pleased with Quest and especially with the 15th and Noe location. read more

The reviews made me so nervous but when I actually got there it went perfectly! Nice and quick people working there. Think all the bad reviews just come from picky people. read more

This is a small, no-frills lab. The people who work here are quick and to the point with no time for niceties, so I'll do the same for this review: 1) This place is open from 8a-4pm, Mon-Fri but drug tests are only done until 3pm. 2) For convenient service, I highly recommend making an appointment on their website prior to going. 3) Nearby street cleaning on 15th Street is on Monday 9am-11am on the side that the clinic is on and Wednesday 9am-11am on the opposite side of the street. If you want to be able to easily and conveniently park, schedule an 11:15am appointment on Monday or Wednesday. Because of street cleaning, there were plenty of spots available when I arrived at 11:11 but they were all gone when I left at 11:22. 4) Service is impersonal and the people who work there will ignore any attempt at conversation. They're not mean but it is a life-force draining environment. I'm glad I don't work there. 5) If you take a drug test, they will have you empty your pockets and hang your personal items on a coat hanger that is in easy reach of anyone walking up the stairs. Your items are NOT locked up and you have to just trust the lab tech to guard your items. If you have issue with that, don't bring any valuables with you other than what you need (your ID, insurance or billing paperwork, and any required paperwork). Service was super quick and easy. There was only one other patient in the facility at the time that I was there. I was in and out in no time at all (approximately 6 minutes total). I did NOT get any bloodwork done so cannot comment on the phlebotomist's skill level like the other yelper's but I can say that they were very efficient with issuing the urine test. read more

The place is so crappy. Rude people and bad service. Doesn't say online that drug test is only til 3pm. Went there and had someone who checked in seconds before 3 before me. So my check in is already 3 mins pass 3. Waited 25mins or more to let me know i can't do it. Should be more professional so I didn't even need to continue signing in the begin with. So unclear with closing times and slow service. read more

You know, for having to take a drug test, this was a pretty pleasant experience. This was picked by my employer as a prescreen test and was easy-peasy. I tried to schedule an appointment on the website, but it seemed like there was no availability (like...ever) and I only had 72 hours, so I just showed up. I was there around 9:10 (drug screenings are only 9-3) and things were pretty busy and picked up the entire time I was there. I was out the door by 10am, less than an hour. Only downside, the water cooler was out of water - that was a big cup to fill and providing water would have been nice. Luckily, I brought my own bottle and was looking for a refill, just in case. The lab tech (/dr?) was very friendly and made the whole process was painless. read more

Made an appointment online the night before, and no one else was in the waiting room so I was seen to within 2 minutes. I told the phlebotomist that I have fainting tendencies, so he reclined my chair and was sensitive to how I was feeling. Very grateful for that! The fact that the blood-taking station is in a sectioned off part of the waiting room was a little uncomfortable for me, but less so than if another patient was actually waiting there on the other side of the low wall. For the necessity of having blood tests, this experience was quick, easy, and successful! read more

No problem with the phlebotomist. Really good work always, and I respect that. My issue is the management culture. This location used to have knowledgeable and friendly staff at the front desk who could answer the phone and field in-person questions. Now there's nothing there but an automated check-in screen. Well and good, but too impersonal for me. There is no way to communicate with anyone - today after I had left, the phlebotomist phoned me about a problem and asked me to call back, but there was no way to get through on the phone - the recording said to press "6" to speak with someone, but when I did the automaton said "6" was an invalid number. I've wasted huge amounts of time trying to get past the corporate firewall just to ask a question, and I still have no answer. It should not be this difficult. read more

Yep, Orland is amazing. I have to get my blood drawn regularly, and have for years. While the place has changed hands a few times, and my insurance has changed several times, and sometimes the two didn't meet up, I'm glad to come back here. To summarize: THIS LOCATION is wonderful. The staff is friendly and excellent. The labs in the South Bay are awful. If there's ANY issue with your insurance or paperwork, it's a nightmare because the corporate side of Quest Diagnostics is a nightmare. But if you're set up correctly in their computer system, THIS LOCATION is 5-star. Even though I lived in San Jose at the time, I came here because the labs in the South Bay are crowded, unfriendly, and incompetent. I had been told I needed to come back in so they could draw more blood, and when I asked WHY I got evasive answers and the runaround until I finally pressed the truth out of them: The technician hadn't drawn enough blood to perform the necessary tests. I replied that I WOULD get my blood redrawn, but NOT in San Jose. So I came here. In my experience, it's not crowded so there's not a long wait. Orland is wonderful. And I've been fortunate enough to avoid any insurance problems or otherwise having to deal with the Big Evil Corporation that owns them. Clearly, that's where all the complaints are deserved. I work in San Jose and stopped by on my way to work to get blood drawn this morning, the waiting room was packed, the staff was clearly stressed and unfriendly, and one woman had been waiting for over an hour. Again, the South Bay labs are a nightmare. So I made an appointment for tomorrow morning at THIS location. I hope Orland is there. read more

I read the reviews and STILL decided to go because I thought how bad could it be. Turns out HORRIBLE. Please don't waste your time going here. I needed to get a drug test done for school, my first time giving them sample was enough maybe rice grain size away from the line on the cup. When I give it to Michael he said nope not enough and dumped it out. Gave me water to drink so I can try again. Then while I was waiting I drank more water and got yelled at by the phlebotomist saying "you aren't supposed to drink more water" I was never told that! Michael comes down and says since I drank more than 6 ounces I have to wait til 3 to try again. Asked if I can leave and book another test and he said since that would be a refusal of drug test he would need to talk to my school. I spent 20 mins trying to get them on the phone and then Michael says "I never said I needed to speak to them" then once my administrator spoke to him HE CHANGED HIS WHOLE STORY! Said I can try to pee again and don't have to wait til 3 and the drinking water over 6 ounces didn't even come out of his mouth! Highly unprofessional read more

I've come here for several lab draws over the years. The staff are friendly and work efficiently. It's clean and they do a good job.

A good example of a service being driven by the cheapest, no caring ideas of some modern business. Tuesday 12/27, freezing cold, no heat, very dark inside. Piles of old magazines, filled trash cans, dirty stained woodwork. Erratic hours, last time I had to come in twice because they sent a sample to the wrong lab. What must go on behind the scenes? read more

Not much to say about the services. The wait, the needle, the drawing of the blood, the usual. The problem that I have with this lab is their business practice. So let's start from the beginning. I've been going to my doctor for annual checkup since year 2000. And this lab had always been the designated lab for the routine blood tests since they used to be within the 'network'. But last August when I get to my doctor for the physical exam, they told me to go to this one lab to get my lab work done and forgot to mention that it's no longer the same one as before. (Apparently, Quest has dropped outta the network for whatever reason.) The location of the new lab is very close to Quest. So naturally I assumed that it was the same lab and went to get my blood drawn. Now I'm getting a big bill from Quest since my insurance doesnt cover 100%. I'm pissed because the nurse that took my order knew that I came to the wrong lab yet he proceeded to 'steal' the business from this other lab which clearly had its name and address on the referral paperwork. Illegal or not I dont know. But it's definitely not very ethical. I also found out later (from the doctor's office) that this incident wasnt the first case. Apparently, Quest had been taking advantage of many other patients from the same office before. Speaking of blood sucking evil lab.... (Jan 14th) Two days later............ So I called my healthcare provider again. This time I found out that Quest had made an agreement to charge only a certain fees (even though they are no longer within the network) and the insurance should have covered that amount. However, in my case, the lab charged me for over 270% of the quoted price. Outrageous!! At the end, I called Quest and they have decided to take care of the problem and zero out the balance on my account. Hopefully I never have to deal with them again in the future. Except, if I get my 3rd notice in the mail during the next couple of weeks asking me to pay the balance, then you'll hear me yelp again. Until then... (Jan 16th) read more

The lab technician was pleasant, efficient, and the blood draw was painless. I wish I could say the same thing about dealing with this company. I've used Quest for my lab work four times. They've screwed up my insurance in exactly the same way each of the four times. The only way to get them to straighten things out is to talk to them by telephone. Their telephone hold-times are ridiculous: This morning I waited on hold for 22 minutes before finally giving up and hanging up and, just now, another 20 minutes. Again I've given up. Last time, the billing agent said she would make notes about the problem (I quote) "in big letters, outlined with a yellow highligher..." It didn't help. If you have other options for lab work, I suggest you take advantage of them. Customer service clearly matters to individual employees of Quest (the lab technician, the billing agent), but their systems -- being unable to avoid the same error over and over again, and hiring so few billing agents that telephone wait times exceed 20 minutes -- are seriously broken. They act like a monopoly. Maybe they actually think they have a monopoly. The best thing that we as consumers can do is to demonstrate to them that they don't by taking our business elsewhere whenever we can. I will. read more

New Rating: 3.5 Stars Old Rating: 5 Stars UPDATE: About a month after my visit to Quest Diagnostics, I received a bill for $500, claiming that my insurance denied charges because services were performed outside of my coverage time frame. This was clearly not the case. I called my insurance company, and they told me no claim had been filed. They put me on hold while they phoned Quest Diagnostics, who then explained to my insurance company that they didn't file a claim because they didn't have my insurance information. First, Orland photocopied my insurance card, so there must have been some miscommunication between the lab and billing. Second, why not contact me for my insurance information rather sending a bill with a misleading excuse. I am docking 1.5 stars. I think I will continue to go to this location for my tests because they are super efficient, but I'll be sure to triple check that they have my insurance information. === Dropped by Quest to get my blood drawn for a routine blood test. I arrived a little before 8 on a Monday morning (the lab near my doctor's office in Burlingame always has a queue of elderly people in the mornings, so I expected the same of this lab) and was in and out in 5 minutes. I had warned my boss and coworkers that I may be late to work, but because everything went so smoothly and quickly, I made it to the office before pretty much everyone else. Also, Orland was great - he did not need to sacrifice friendliness and professionalism for efficiency. read more
