I had such a wonderful experience at the GGEC for my colonoscopy. The nurses and front office staff made me feel safe and cared for and everything went smoothly and as described. Shout out to Dr. Rombaoa and Dr. Vankova, who were the best doctors anyone could ask for. I'll be back for my next one! read more

Dr. Man and the staff at this office are very friendly, efficient and professional. Went in for a colonoscopy, a little frightened and worried about the procedure. They team was great and explained everything to keep me calm. Next thing you know, you are waking up about 1/2 an hour later. Thanks guys! I'm going to Mels. read more

I had a great experience with the staff and Dr. Farrell. Everyone is super friendly and wants you to be comfortable. The place is clean, I don't know why people mentioned it isn't. I definitely recommend this place to anyone that needs to get a colonoscopy. read more

Where to start? This place is simply dive.. it's so bad that after a day of clearing my system, I showed up they had no clue who I was. They didn't have any of the records that I had filled out three times before and talked to them online and confirmed and barely spoke English. I actually left because I didn't dare take my pants down and guess what they would do next disaster location run don't bother do whatever you can but do not trust these people they are super scary the places dirty I don't know what what else I can say but would never never try this again. Ugh. Has this ever place ever been inspected? Do they have licenses? I think somebody should check. I doubt they actually are even license. It's scary read more

Staff excellent. Explained every step of the way. In and out in an hour. I had an endoscopy. My wife was there last month for the other end, also a great experience. Thank you!! In terms of billing they were happy to take just a 1/3 up front. Kudos Dr Ho and team. read more

Has been an absolute nightmare to deal with billing from start to finish. Unresponsive and constantly making false promises. Would recommend staying away from this place. read more

While my endoscopy was just fine and most of the staff and nurses were terrific, the nurse who put in my IV was terrible. I have big veins and never had a nurse who was so sloppy and painful. She appeared to miss the big vein in my forearm and then went to stick it in further -- very painfully. After my procedure, I noticed that there were TWO puncture wounds showing that somehow during the application of sedation, they had to redo the IV. In addition, I've never had an IV wound have an itchy rash indicating some sort of irritation or infection. read more

We had no issues with their medical services. But their billing processes are extremely vague and misleading. The day of my husband's procedure we paid an $850 copay in April. We got one paper bill in July for our remaining amount due. In September we got a letter from a collection agency that our balance due had been sent to collections. When I called the endoscopy center to try and get some information on a bill breakdown (which they had never sent us) and why they sent us to collections immediately - they simply stated their internal process is to send to collections after sending 3 statements. A quick google search of California law will show you that this is illegal and 180 days from the first bill is the requirement. My guess is they write the unpaid bills off as a loss for taxes. They were also just extremely hard to get ahold of in general. I would recommend going somewhere with fair and legal billing practices and with better communication. read more

Great place to get your colonoscopy. Thay are very caring and make your stay commutable.

I went here for an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. The entire procedure was easy and short (less than an hour). The nurses were kind and patient, and made me immediately comfortable with a warm blanket. The anesthesiologist was friendly and helpful. My doctor was Aristotle Mendiola and he is wonderfully compassionate, articulate, and knowledgeable; I highly recommend him! Communication was excellent. Everyone was happy to explain everything they were doing, while being competent, gentle, and efficient. Once the anesthesiologist started sedation, I was asleep within seconds, and then woke up comfortably in the recovery area. The hardest part of the process by far is the preparation. A day of fasting is not that difficult, but I strongly recommend taking something to prevent nausea (such as Zofran) before you drink the Suprep. It's vile stuff; it gave me pain and terrible nausea for 5+ hours and I had a terrible time. My only complaint is that I wish I had been warned about the Suprep. Aside from that part, the whole experience was great. read more

Awful front office. I setup a colonoscopy (there's a 3 month lead time) and asked for an insurance estimate because there always seems to be surprise charges with anything medical. She said they only do estimates 1 week before the procedure but I shouldn't worry because everything should be 100% covered. I asked a couple more times because it smelled like hidden charges, but she refused to do it. Sure enough, when they finally ran my insurance 1 week before, it turns out I would owe $1000+ for the anesthesia which is done by a separate company. Apparently this is standard for most outpatient facilities. It would only cost $0 if I got the colonoscopy without anesthesia, even with my PPO plan. Awesome. We could have figured this out months ago. I cancelled the appt so I could reschedule for my next insurance cycle and meet the deductible in the beginning. When I called back to set it up, she said I was blacklisted for cancelling 3 times. Ha! The front office is usually a reflection of the quality of the doctors, so I will gladly go elsewhere. read more

Be careful you talk to them about billing and they way they are going to code your procedure before you get anything done. My insurance did not cover the colonoscopy because of how they coded it, and they would not correct it. read more

I had a very good experience here for my first colonoscopy. Front office was polite and efficient. Anesthesiologist texted me over the weekend to check in (my appt was Monday morning) to check in. I waited about 15 minutes, got checked in in back. The Nursing staff was amazing, polite, and efficient. They said they do about 40-50 of these procedures per day. I was out like a light; procedure itself took about 20-40 minutes and I woke up from propofol sedation easily. I had Dr Conlin and he was wonderful. read more

I have a competent, thorough, personable, wonderful physician who booked my colonoscopy at this medical center, and I hope he stops using the facility. I thought the staff were overbusy but organized, friendly, and perfectly fine as they went rapidly from one patient to another. Maybe it's the Great Resignation that has caused a shortage, but every worker seemed caught up in a whirlwind of tasks which they were checking off in a polite but determined manner. The center gets credit also for having clean, airy, comfortable rooms. The waiting room through the examination room were institutional but in good shape. BUT... there is NO PRIVACY. They stack patients in the preparation room close together with only curtains separating the beds. The medical assistants, the anesthesiologist, and the physician come in to talk to you about history, symptoms, outlook... everything with no privacy. I could tell you about the problems the young man in the next bed was having investigated, although I don't know what's up with the woman on the other side of me -- that's because she and the staff all talked in Chinese. I also remember being offered applesauce or a drink or something in the recovery room after my past procedures at a different center. Yesterday there was nothing. My procedure went well and I probably would have moved on without Yelping except today I received my promised day-after-the-procedure check in call. It was a recorded ROBOCALL. Seriously. There was no human asking me if I was okay and no way to talk to a human. I dialed "1" for English but the recording only rattled off phone numbers I was supposed to call if I wanted more information. I cannot imagine how it'd be if I were alone and not feeling well the day after the procedure. I'm supposed to answer the phone with a pen and paper to write down the phone numbers I was being referred to? Having a robocall be the check-in on my well being is just not okay. My advice is to get your doctor to schedule your procedure someplace else. read more

A pleasure meeting Dr Rombaoa (gastroenterologist) and Dr Kumar (anesthesiologist), as well as the nurses and staff members. Both doctors were very personable and upbeat and the procedure went like clockwork. Again, just like clockwork. read more

About five years ago, I got a colonoscopy at this facility. As with nearly all of my medical procedures (thankfully), the procedure itself and medical staff were very good. However, the communication, billing, insurance coordination, and documentation were terrible. At that time, I had just turned 50 and so was getting a standard initial preventive/screening colonoscopy. I was assured by my primary doc, GGEC, and my insurance company that the procedure would be covered at 100% per my plan. A month after, however, I was hit with a ~$2,500 bill and nearly went through the roof. It took me over a year of phone calls, letters, and appeals to finally get it reversed. Fast-forward five years to 2024 and I was again referred to GGEC for my next screening colonoscopy. This time I was more informed - I know despite what Sutter and others tell me, there might be as many as four separate bills: doc, facility, pathology, and anesthesiologist. I start my pre-work over a month before the procedure to try to work with Sutter, GGEC, and my insurance to get a cost estimate, or at least assurance each element will be conducted by an in-network provider. I'll focus this review just on GGEC (not all my dealings with Sutter and insurance). I was directed to GGEC for info on the anesthesiology company and/or pathology company to be used. I could not reach a live person and left a detailed voice mail. No response. I continued to work with Sutter. I called GGEC again ten days later - and explained the urgency because my procedure is coming up - with the same non-response. Sutter directed me to what I think is GGEC's billing office a few days later. I spoke with a very knowledgeable person, who assured me I'd be sent the info, then who became non-responsive after GGEC sent me something completely different. Thanks to GGEC's non-responsiveness and lack of point person for a patient for a procedure such as this, I was forced to cancel my colonoscopy after several weeks of trying to get a simple cost estimate for it, despite it being strongly recommended by my GI doc and in theory covered at 100% by my insurance as a preventive procedure. I sure would have loved to get my preventive colon cancer screening on time, but could not take the financial risk of proceeding without a cost estimate or - absent that - a simple assurance that only in-network providers would have been used. I don't know yet what the better alternative is, but if you have the chance to have your procedure done somewhere besides GGEC, take it - unless you like non-responsiveness, like being told one provider is going to be used then having another do the work, or like to get erroneous medical bills in the thousands of dollars and have to spend months filing appeals while your account is sent to collections. Thank you for reading and good luck. read more

I don't want to spend all day writing my complaints in detail. In brief, billing problems and no itemized explanation of charges. I finally called Medicare and discovered that according to their records I do not owe any amount for services and yet GGEC billed me nearly $300.00. Badly treated at the GG Endo Center by both anesthesiologist and phelbotomist, neither of whom listened to me trying to explain what I needed due to my own particular conditions. Totally unprofessional. One size does not fit all. I have had many procedures elsewhere and this place is far below par. Please note: my doctor is fine, the GGEC is not. read more

Full disclosure, I am a independent contractor physician who has worked here, as well as several other endoscopy only centers. Having just completed my colonoscopy my observations have been validated from the patient viewpoint. read more

My biggest concern was minutes after waking up from sedation, I was asked if I was ready to get my clothes back on -- and get dressed. I was not. I was groggy and needed more time to rest. So in that sense, it did feel like a mill or a restaurant trying to clear you out for the next seated party at your table -- in this case, the operating room. Agree with the "mill" aspect of previous reviewers. Having said that, the staff is efficient. They're just too busy to be super friendly and warm. So if you're looking for a warmer and friendlier environment, this might not be it. Efficiency? Knowledge? This is probably the place -- and they're busy for a reason. So consider that. In terms of knowledge, Dr. Aristotle Mendiola is excellent -- and a sweet guy. He just didn't have too much time to chit chat. He began reading my results when I was half-groggy and just waking up from sedation. That was rough. But they do give you a printout and he promises to call within a few days. They called the next day and left a message (obligatory) to see how I was feeling. Overall, I would go back. Just a few nuances to be aware of and to cope with. Gals at the front desk (upon checking in) should limit their loud chit-chat. Sorry to be a scrooge. Wasn't in the mood to hear their personal musings. read more

Golden Gate Endoscopy Center - Dr. Mendiola is a sweet guy. - Medical Centers Near Me - San Francisco, California

I can't commend highly enough the nurses, doctors, and Dr. A. Mendiola specifically for their professionalism and warmth during my colonoscopy procedure (never thought I would use "warm" and "colonoscopy" in the same sentence. I didn't feel anything throughout and after waking up there was absolutely no pain. Dr. Mendiola followed up a couple of days later to check in. Yes, things were efficient and relatively fast, but there was never a sense of being rushed. I know some reviewers mentioned being rushed through, but this isn't a Four Seasons setting - nor is it striving to be that - so I didn't mind to be in and out with no discomfort whatsoever. read more

My mom was referred here for a scheduled colonoscopy and endoscopy. After completing the check-in process out front, she was called in after a slight wait in the waiting room. She was placed in one of the beds set up as little rooms divided by curtains. After changing to a gown that started the process for her procedure. After the procedure, my mom recuperated in her room and they monitored her blood pressure until it was back at a normal level. The doctor came by to talk about the procedure and the results and gave us a copy of the report. Overall, it was a nice visit to Golden Gate Endoscopy. Nice facilities and friendly staff made it a pleasant experience for my mom. read more

This review is for the reception staff. Upon checking in, I was informed that the doctor is running 1 hour behind. They knew this beforehand but no one bothered to call to let me know so I didn't have to leave the house on time. After being required to be in the facility 1 hour before the procedure, I now have to sit in the waiting area for 2 hours. I have not eaten anything for over 24 hours, and nothing to drink for over 4 hours ( 5 hours before the procedure). A 1 minute courtesy phone call would have made a big difference. The reception staff has become insensitive to the discomfort of patients. They are chatting amongst themselves laughing in front of patients who are waiting. read more

It is the worst experience I ever had. I hope you can watch out for this. (1) My doctor ordered me colonoscopy and location was in Geary street where it was near Kaiser. After I made the call, and they sent me documents, it asked me to go to 3370 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94118 location. Then we followed the instruction. When the bill came, we were told that we went to a wrong location and our bill was not be covered. (2) The bill came after 3 months, we did not how much we need to pay before we got the bill. We were told by the doctor that our insurance should covered all. But now we received a bill $600. Also at that time, we were told that we went to a wrong location. (3) We went online, found the bill. It shows it asked the insurance to claim it. But the insurance was WRONG. It was NOT my insurance. I requested an update of my insurance. It didn't do it. It sent me 2nd bill. Asking me to pay to California Pacific Pathology. I requested to updated my insurance again. They updated but Not the insurance I provided. A totally different insurance again. But this time, the bill statement showed $0. (4) Now 8 months after, Golden Gate Endoscopy Center from Sacramento sent me another bill again. Asking $325. It shows my medicare asking $3010. After deduction, now I need to pay $325. I have insurance, I have medicare. How come I still need to pay for the bill. There is no explanation on the letter. No list of service I have done. Each of the bill I receives, they were talking about the same service BUT billing to different location. I am so so so confuse that. If I pay the bill, will they later ask me another bill, and bill to another location again? read more

Top notch! GGEC is friendly, thorough, and professional. Dr. Mendiola is excellent: a kind listener, thorough intake and personally called me afterwards. I cant believe I'm even giving a rating to this place. Front desk lady person has a major attitude problem. Starting from telling my father to sit because he couldn't hear her clearly with straight attitude- After that she kept acting so annoyed with us and was rude with me and my father acting like I don't understand english. Talking to me like I am a dumb- that doesn't understand what they are doing. I noticed majority of the people here were of Chinese descent and were comfortable speaking Chinese. That does not mean everyone that comes here is Chinese or speaks Chinese. The front desk put a NOTE on my dad's paper saying he is in need of SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS CHINESE????? Because he does not speak English well- Are you serious.. Do you know how racist that is??? Do you just assume every person that looks of asian descent is automatically going to be Chinese? SO DISRESPECTFUL AND RUDE. DIDNT NEED HER NAME CAUSE SHE IS IRRELEVANT AND I WILL NEVER SEE THIS RACIST PERSON AGAIN. read more

I got an Endoscopy here and the procedure was good, everyone was friendly and they did a good job with the IV which is usually a problem for my small veins. Me & my cousin brought my 73 yr old grandmother here for a routine procedure and our appt was at 11:15 we had to wait over 45 mins for them to finally bring her back & we are grandchildren that are helping and take care of our grandmother so we wanted to go in with her to make sure we knew what was goin on etc and so the nurse goes " oh she's just gonna change and then I'll come back for you two" 10 mins pass & we ask another nurse and they go oh she was just admitted because the "doctor had been waiting" and that we will be able to see her in "recovery" like NO SHIT! Of course but we always talk to the doctor before anything at her appts. That was completely UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL. GIVING ONE STAR ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE TOO. ADDING TO PREVIOUS REVIEW: I am now back and in the recovery center with my grandmother and she tells us that she was waiting 20 MINS for the doctor to come in!!! And she asked the nurse well aren't my grand daughters coming? And the nurse says "oh they left already" well we had left because the nurse told us that she was already starting procedure!! That is COMPLETELY irresponsible! I am appalled at how unprofessional those two nurses were! Definitely stand your ground with the nurse if they try and say that they will come back for you - they won't do stand your ground and be like uh no I'm coming now. These are serious procedures being done not a normal check up - we are never coming back here if ever we need a procedure in the future. Nurse Katrina btw. read more

If you like robotic hyper-courtesy (I get more than enough from greeters at my local bank!), and don't mind being treated as an incompetent (eg, who can't be trusted to wait in front of the Center for a pre-arranged ride home) and a deadbeat (from whom proof of insurance is a prerequisite to "welcome"), but mainly as a potential litigant (see Wikipedia "defensive medicine"), then you still may be irritated by a surgical assistant who motor-mouths about her weekend through an entire procedure (as though, because not fully conscious, I'm meat). An obsession with liability is dehumanizing, and comes at the cost of true responsiveness, informative communication (in both directions), and likely medical effectiveness, and at a time when respectful professionalism might be particularly valued. read more
