My husband usually complains about food at any place he is, and he is doing well with the hospital food here. The nurses are excellent and he has been seen by doctors from the care team. It may feel as if there is a lack of communication before being admitted, but we found that the nurses and staff are working together to accommodate all of his needs and requests so that once he was in the room, everything was in order and specialist started showing up to see him almost immediately. The MyChart app is extremely helpful as I can confirm that his care is progressing well. Once he is taken into surgery, I will be updated via text in real time and can ask questions of the care team, if necessary. This is far superior to communication from other hospitals. We don't live close to SF, so the drive is a drawback since he is in for a week. And the larger hassle is parking. Valet parking is available, but the hours are limited and getting your vehicle is a challenge. Plus the cost adds up. This means that instead of having visitors twice a day, he will see someone once a day.

The Mission Bay location is excellent but when we have an emergency we are brought to the Parnassus hospital. The hospital is extremely busy with a variety of cases, it reminds me of an episode of the Pitt. The hospital staff does the best it can but with all the people coming in, it's hard to manage. We got triaged and waiting a long time to seen but I understand because we have a "problem" but it's not life threatening like some of the people walking in the door. So we wait. He was admitted and there wasn't a room available for about a day, it's not the hospitals fault. They are doing their best with what they have. Our health care system is broken and blaming the hospital with one and two stars is easy to do, we have only received the best care available when we have been at the hospital and I am grateful to the staff who do what they can. We live over two hours away and I drive to get care here because they are the best. People might not agree and I know we hate to wait, but I would rather be seen by the best.

Super convenient that everything is practically located in one area so you're not having to run around town to various offices, pharmacies, and labs to get everything done. I love their online app/portal that makes scheduling appointments, ordering medications, and sending messages to your doctors easier. I can also access my medical records with ease through the portal - really helps when it comes to figuring out when my last yearly physical was or when my last immunization was done. The first time I experienced Kaiser here in SF it felt almost like being at the DMV. Big digital screens with patient names and call numbers for when it's your turn - particularly when getting blood draws and picking up prescriptions - but it's super efficient even at the busiest times when you think you'll be waiting an eternity. I've had nothing but good experiences with all the staff as well from the front desk administration to the nurses and doctors. Even the cafeteria workers are super pleasant at this location the few times I've decided to grab a coffee or a quick snack. I'm relatively healthy - knock on wood - and most of my medical appointments have been for just yearly checkups and one breast biopsy which I was totally expecting to be traumatic but it was surprisingly non frightening and went so much smoother than I was preparing for. I haven't yet had to see a specialist outside of that or have any ER visits or surgeries at Kaiser so I can't critique them in any of those categories but for preventative care I give them a hearty thumbs up.

And after they got moved to the upstairs hospital, the team there was great also. Food Elements Cafe was just okay. But if you are following after eating Sage Cafe, Carson City, NV in Carson Tahoe Health, it is very hard to follow... See other Yelp reviews. Not many people eat at this Elements Cafe, mainly employees and visitors do not have the time or energy to leave for better food. The bad news is that Kaiser, insurance carriers, discharge patients before they are ready; in my opinion... Which causes more issues or repeat customers and these are NOT the repeat customers anyone wins from. Ambiance - It's a hospital... Parking garage, but I have been lucky enough to find easy street parking. Service - 5 stars, except for the discharge team. Price - Depends on your insurance policy or deductible. But health care is very expensive, both in CA and NV; well in the USA. $11 for my hamburger. Owner Comment - Congrats to Kaiser success since 1945. Wish our USA had better health care.

There are two elevator banks marked A and C to the right of the lobby area and down the hall. As I left, I noticed the valet parking guy setting up his sign and stand. I was fortunate to find a metered space but didn't have to pay since the meters were not in effect at that time. Given the meter rates in the City these days, you may be better off using this service. Please note that the valet stand is only weekdays as parking is not difficult with meters not enforced weekends. I hope that the staff that cares for my friend are as nice as the physical visage of the hospital.

The gyno told me that because I still have periods and ovaries I'm producing hormones, therefore she can't prescribe me any hormone treatment, but that she can prescribe me birth control. BC *is* hormones. She didn't seem to believe me that I was definitely not pregnant, yet didn't ask for a pregnancy test. I joked that the only way that would happen is if 15 year old zombie sperm might still be present and viable. She looked even more suspicious at this point, then made certain to classify my sexual orientation so she could put it in my file. I also saw an ENT there who didn't listen to my concerns at all. I went in because food goes up the back of my nose when I swallow, sometimes I have trouble swallowing, and my nostril collapses shut when I lie down. He scoped my nose, prescribed me a nasal spray for allergies and told me he wasn't concerned about the other problems. Maybe I should have eaten before I went so he'd find some food. Or just not blown out all the cereal before I went. Awful place. I forgot what it was like to be spoken to as if you're stupid by your health care providers and having to DIY your health care. Nobody should have to do this. Now I remember. I'm counting the days until I can get back to my old job and health insurance so I can go back to being treated like I have an IQ over zero. Also, the portal keeps notifying me of new lab results. I only had one blood draw and they're the same results over and over, but rearranged each time. At least this is just annoying rather than genuinely concerning.

@@My Journey With Knee Pain -- And an Unexpected Alternative to Knee Replacement…read more Good morning, everyone. I wanted to share my personal journey with knee pain and the treatments I've tried, in hopes it might help someone going through the same thing. The Beginning of My Knee Pain About 10 years ago, I began experiencing serious knee pain. I'm now 67, so it wasn't exactly a surprise, but it was still life-changing. My orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me with bone-on-bone arthritis and recommended a knee replacement. Instead, I started with cortisone injections every three months. For years, those shots worked like magic. Along with physical therapy, knee braces, topical creams, and supportive orthopedic shoes, I was able to manage the pain and live my life. When the Injections Stopped Working Unfortunately, this year everything changed. The cortisone injections only gave me mild relief, and the pain returned long before I could get the next one. I tried: * Hyaluronic acid injections - no improvement * PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections - mild relief for about a month By June, my surgeon and I agreed it was time for knee replacement surgery. He also advised me to stop cortisone injections to reduce surgical risks. I scheduled the procedure and began preparing. A Setback I Never Expected Around this time, I joined this online knee replacement group for support -- but reading story after story of months-long pain and slow recoveries honestly scared me. Still, my pain was unbearable, so I was ready to proceed. Then, the unthinkable happened. I fell off a ladder and suffered a severe injury to my right leg -- the same one scheduled for surgery. I had an 8-inch skin tear, all the way to the bone. My surgeon immediately canceled my surgery, saying I'd need to wait at least a year for the skin to fully heal. The worst part? No more cortisone shots, ever. My skin was now too thin, and the risk was too high. My daily pain level was a 7 or 8 out of 10. I couldn't sleep, walking was torture, and my quality of life plummeted. Searching for Another Option Desperate for relief, I kept researching and came across Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) -- a procedure that blocks inflammation by targeting the tiny arteries around the knee. I asked about it on social media, and a few people shared they had tried it years ago but only got short-term relief. However, the procedure recently received FDA approval, so I decided it was worth investigating. I contacted the San Francisco Vein and Vascular Institute, and Dr. Nathanson was incredibly helpful. After discussing my situation, he encouraged me to give it a try. The Procedure On Monday, I went in for my GAE procedure. The facility was beautiful, the staff welcoming, and the equipment state-of-the-art. The entire procedure took less than an hour. I limped in with a cane... and walked out normally just a few hours later. No sharp pain -- only a dull ache. Over the next couple of days, I experienced mild soreness when standing, but it was nothing compared to before. Today, three days after the procedure, I am 99% pain-free -- no pain medication, not even Tylenol. Looking Back What I once saw as a disaster -- my fall -- turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It forced me to seek an alternative to knee replacement, and I am so grateful I did. I know GAE may not be permanent, but it can be repeated if needed, and by then, there may be even more options available. Today, I am deeply thankful to Dr. Nathanson and the San Francisco Vein and Vascular Institute for giving me my mobility and my life back. If you're struggling with knee pain and looking for alternatives, it may be worth exploring GAE. I'll continue to update my journey in the weeks ahead. Good luck everyone.

Dr. Nathanson performed three procedures for me with great skill and an excellent bedside manner. I experienced no pain, and my recovery was almost immediate with no downtime. The facility is easy to find, modern, and welcoming. I highly recommend SF Vein and Vascular.
