Mold Men of Pittsburgh

I hired Mold Men of Pittsburgh in April 2015 to do mold remediation in the basement of a house I…read moreinherited in New Castle, PA. The basement had been partitioned with drywall, wallpaper, and wood paneling, which I nicknamed "The Mold Buffet." The whole basement needed to be gutted to get rid of the mold-ridden materials. It was a big job, since it's a fairly large basement. (A pipe had been leaking inside an old basement closet for years, and no one knew! Glad I got that fixed.) I interviewed people from 7 different companies before choosing Mold Men of Pittsburgh. They had an attention to detail that was above and beyond any of the other companies. And their pricing was fair and very reasonable compared to a few other estimates I received. When they initially sent a guy to my house to do an inspection and give me an estimate, their guy was the ONLY one who actually walked the entire outside perimeter of my house, even going behind thick bushes to make sure he could do a thorough inspection. He discovered some groundhog holes that needed to be filled. None of the other people had found those holes. I was impressed with this attention to detail! (You obviously do NOT want water sitting in holes adjacent to your house! I was grateful that he found this problem, so I could fix it.) After I hired Mold Men of Pittsburgh, their two-man crew completely gutted my basement, threw out the damaged materials into a dumpster, and professionally remediated the mold. They left no trace of it behind! They did an excellent and extremely thorough job. They left my basement in pristine condition! The crew was completely professional and polite the whole time and just very nice people in general with a strong work ethic. I highly recommend this company to take care of any mold remediation needs you may have. Their pricing is fair, and their level of professionalism is unmatched in their industry. They will do the job right the first time. They will do it thoroughly, and it will be as if the mold had never even been in your home! They are THAT GOOD! When they left, my basement smelled clean and fresh for the first time in years! If I ever have a need for this service ever again in my life, there is no one else I would call. MOLD MEN OF PITTSBURGH is the BEST at what they do! I am very happy I found them. You will be happy, too. P.S. I received estimates from 7 different companies, which ranged in price from around $3,000-$14,000! I paid Mold Men of Pittsburgh $3600. They offered one of the most reasonable prices for the highest quality, most thorough professional service. P.S.S. I have been meaning to write this review ever since they finished the job in April 2015, but I kept forgetting or getting sidetracked, so I'm glad I finally took the time. I want people to know how great this company truly is.

Mold Medics were the only ones who would disclose the product they use to treat the air ducts, answer questions and provide its ingredients. I felt safe with their product choice as it's one of the least toxic out there. Every person we interacted with, from initial call to the technician that did the cleaning was professional, respectful, experienced and a pleasure. They were incredibly clean too, which means a lot to me as a clean freak/germaphobe. Since then, we've recommended them to family and friends who were equally impressed and happy with their experience. We just had them come to our new house to service our ducts here too and even in the middle of a pandemic, I'm absolutely blown away by the experience. The gentleman who as incredibly covid conscious and respectful of us and our home. He went above and beyond to make sure to keep us all safe. He also told us about some insulation that was wedged in a cold air return (that shouldn't have been) versus just moving to the next room. He allowed us to remove that insulation ourselves and then went back to reclean anything it impacted. Mold Medics is an example of how to do business right. I couldn't recommend them more. They are awesome.

He was quick and efficient, and did an excellent job installing our radon mitigation system. He worked very cleanly and left everything looking great. We really appreciated how easy he made the whole process and would definitely recommend Airtech Radon to anyone needing radon mitigation services!

In my opinion, they did very little investigation before starting the job. Their first attempt was simply installing a sub-slab suction point without tying into the French drain system at all. They left a monitor for a few days, and the radon levels did not change. About a month later, they came back and added another suction point. This time, they ran piping across the basement to tie into part of the French drain system. The frustrating part is that there were easier access points near the original system, including the sump area or the channel leading into the sump, that could have been evaluated first. Again, they left the monitor for a few days, and the radon levels still did not change. Another month later, they returned and added a 2nd sub-slab suction point in the center of the basement. Still no real improvement. At that point, they told me I needed to seal cracks around the basement, so I did. That also did not fix the problem. Their next suggestion was to stack two fans to increase suction. I did not feel comfortable with that approach. I felt it made more sense to use a properly sized higher-suction fan rather than stacking fans and hoping for the best. Eventually, I decided to stop using this company and troubleshoot the issue myself. During that process, I discovered they had only tied into half of my French drain system. My house actually has two separate French drain sections, which they never identified. Once I added a suction point into the second French drain system and upgraded to a higher-pressure fan with good airflow, the system finally started working the way it should. My setup is now basically a hybrid system: three sub-slab suction points and two French drain suction points. In hindsight, I believe if both French drain systems had been properly investigated and tied in from the beginning, some of the extra sub-slab work may not have been necessary. Overall, my biggest frustration is that there did not seem to be a real diagnostic process. It felt like they were guessing, waiting weeks between visits, and hoping the numbers would eventually drop during warmer weather. But radon is often worse in the winter because of stack effect, so a temporary drop in summer does not necessarily mean the problem is fixed. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company for a difficult radon mitigation situation, especially in an older home with interior French drains and clay soil. If the house was built with gravel under the slab, they would probably do great. However, my experience with them has been terrible . So terrible that I had to figure this out on my own. If I could give them 0 stars, I would.
