I would NOT recommend using Home Radon Pros to handle your radon mitigation needs. I discovered that my radon levels were in excess of 70 in my basement home office after testing multiple times with DEP-approved charcoal test kits. I purchased two Airthings continuous digital monitors which also showed very high levels varying between 40-60. I hired Home Radon Pros based on reviews and asked them to install a radon mitigation system ASAP. They installed the system and to my surprise, after a week or so, the radon levels did not drop at all. Bill (the owner) came back to my house and recommended that I install a second system on the other side of the basement. I asked him if he could perform any testing first to verify that the second location would be more effective. He said that he would test after the second system was installed if needed. Before allowing him to proceed, I consulted with another local radon mitigator as well as the PADEP Radon Division. I was able to determine that the radon mitigation system that Home Radon Pros installed was in a bad location, not enough soil was removed from the collection point (15-20 gallons minimum for tight soils), and they did not seal any cracks in the floor or the foundation as their price quote says they would in the notes. The PADEP informed me that a certified mitigator should always conduct sub-slab depressurization testing before immediately recommending a second system be installed, which they did not. Additionally, they used a hammer drill to bust through the wall of my brick home leaving a terrible looking penetration instead of using a proper core drill bit, they globbed caulking all around the pipe on the outside of the house (see photo), left dirt all over the floor in the laundry area where the system was installed (see photo), and did not use proper masonry fasteners to secure the pipe to the walls. After doing additional research, I decided to install a second mitigation system myself in a proper location recommended by their competitor. After installing the second system, my levels dropped down below 1 across the entire basement in less than 24-hours. I turned the fan off that Home Radon Pros installed and the levels have held below 1 for months now with just the system I installed running. This shows that the system Home Radon Pros installed was doing nothing. I now have to remove the fan and pipe that Home Radon Pros installed and repair my brick. Home Radon Pros installed a system that did not lower my radon levels, the quality of their work was poor at best, and they did not offer so much as a partial refund when I spoke to Bill and explained that their system was not working. I highly recommend that you find someone else to handle your radon mitigation needs. If you have had a system installed by Home Radon Pros in the past, I recommend that you purchase a continuous monitor and check that your levels are truly staying below 4.
UPDATE: The Owner responded to this review blaming me as the customer for selecting a bad location for the mitigation system that they installed. Bill painted a completely false narrative and said that I didn't agree with their origional recommendations, so let me clarify. When Steve (the installer) first visited my home, he gave me two options. One, to install the system in the center of the back wall of the house in the kids play area or two, in the laundry room where it was ultimately installed. I did not request that the system be installed in a location that was not recommended. I simply selected one of the two options that I was given by the certified professional. The home office where the system ultimately needed to be installed was never discussed as a primary location to install the mitigation system. What was discussed was installing a second collection point in the office and running a pipe back to the fan in the laundry area if the radon did not drop to the desired levels in the other corner of the basement. Beware of a company that blames their customers for the shortcoming of their products or services. To be fair, I will end this review on a positive note and say that Bill was very responsive to my phone calls, texts, and email. read more
