We have frequented the Riverside often and always enjoyed out visit. On a Sunday you can choose from the daily menu and there is also a Sunday lunch menu. Today we ordered roast beef from the Sunday lunch menu. Not sure what happened today, but the meal was terrible. To start with the plates were cold and the star of the meal, the roast beef, was overcooked resulting in meat which was hard to cut and difficult to chew. It was extremely tough! The vegetables were nearly cold. Another important point was the presentation. The plate had to much food piled on it and was very poorly presented. We feel the chef must of been having a bad day and most certainly needs to revisit how to cook beef correctly and also think about the presentation of a meal. The meal was uninspiring and neither plate of food was finished. All in all a very unsatisfactory Sunday lunch. We have only given 2 stars, because of the setting and friendly service staff. In summer the tables by the river are relaxing and you can take a stroll around all the garden items on display. In winter inside is warm and comfortable and there is a play area for children. The restaurant has a good and comprehensive 'all day' menu, but on our last visit they had run out of jacket potatoes at lunch time. Free coffee refills. The staff are very helpful and quickly produced a list of ingredients when we did our usual 'allergies check'. Easy disabled access and free car parking.
