What an awesome, special event!! My partner and I were thrilled to find out I won a pair of tickets to QCP's evening of fine food and were so excited to make the trip out to the Terrace on the Park to enjoy some of Queens local restaurants! Some of my food highlights included the mushroom Ravioli, the chicken skewers, the bolognese and, of course, who doesn't love a good donut?? All in all, really generous of Yelp to partner with QCP to provide some of the YES with tickets. Thank you so much to Sam, Yelp, all the participanting restaurants, and QCP for their generosity! We had a great evening.

A really cool event, with more vendors than I was expecting! Discovered so much great food and some restaurants I'm definitely visiting soon! There wasn't a lot of options drinks wise, just some alcohol samples and water but the food more than made up for it. You get some complimentary tickets for poker so that was put to good use, they also had a lot of raffles and every prize was won. Lastly, it was really awesome to dress up, eat some good food, and contribute to the fundraising campaign Totally worth it 10/10 experience Thank you Yelp and Samantha !

I went to this event maybe 10 plus years ago and it's definitely gotten way better over the years. Was super excited to have won tickets through Yelp elite and brought my boyfriend to literally his first food and drink event. I think he was overwhelmed over the enormous amount of options of food and restaurant vendors. The setup was beautiful in the ballroom of the Terrace on the Park venue that was built for the World's Fair in the sixties. Admittedly we initially got to this area of Queens early and then got lost for about 45 minutes because I thought the entrance was in the park and unfortunately the entire venue is gated off on all sides except the entrance from the street for cars. Awkward silence. Neither of us drive. We didn't uber and took the train in the pouring rain. Aside from that, once we were inside it was like finding an oasis of pure gluttony. They also had a gambling area and bidding auctions I didn't participate in. A number of nice drink options. I loved some spots that I've been to in Queens before were there like Max Bratwurst. There was so much to try I couldn't fit in every booth and that's the sign of an amazing event. Such a great event for the community and a fantastic night.

I had the chance to attend this amazing event sponsored by the Queens Center for Progress (QCP) thanks to Yelp. It was a beautiful venue and everything at the event was outstanding. I didn't know what to expect since it was my first time. There were so many food vendors from all over Queens and I definitely recognized quite a few that were even in my neighborhood. There was no way to hit up all of the vendors, but I tried my best at getting a variety. They also had a few casino tables, which was fun, and a silent auction with a variety of things to win from experiences to even a TV. Thank you QCP for hosting a great night and for all the work that you do.

An Evening of Fine Foods, a Gala Charity Event sponsored Queens Centers for Progress (QCP), services for people w.developmental disabilities. First and foremost, what a wonderful organization! Kudos to them all for their efforts and hard work! What a special evening; filled with fine foods from many restaurants and businesses in Queens. We got to sample many different foods, ranging from dinner entrees, desserts, snacks, coffee, beer/alcohol and candies. There were also gaming tables, selfie booths, silent auctions and raffles. (This is a fund raiser, after all). I unsuccessfully bid for a painting and regret not being more aggressive! This Gala Event was certainly a treat!! Big thanks and kudos goes to QCP for a successful, well-run, organized event. Thanks also to Yelp Queens and Jando for allowing me the opportunity to attend this very special event!

Queens Center for Progress rocks; what a wonderful organization. I've said it before and say it again, they help kids with special needs and prove that handicapable is indeed, capable! Their services, centers and the programming work they do for these kids are amazing. Even more amazing, this charity event they host bringing people from all walks of life together for one goal, raising money for the QCP Kids/ the mission. This year with much thanks to Yelp, I was able to attend as a guest instead of a paying patron and I noticed many new Yelp faces. I've attended as a paid patron once before and the money spent is well worth the cause - either on the tickets, the raffles, or silent auction. A Fine Food event it was, situated in the beautiful Terrace in the Park space. I had the opportunity to sample pernil from Havana Central, La Fondita Tamales, Curry chicken from NEST, Rice balls from Bourbon Street, BBQ ribs, souffle bites from the Hilton, sliced beef with pickled radish, freshly made pretzels from The Philly Pretzel factory, pizza from a notable chef, Hilary Topper. Also got my caffeine fix from Java Melts and met the boss lady too! Don't forget the sweets - key lime mousse and brownies from Isa Bakery as well as a generous sampling of chocolates from Schmidt's Candy. And last but not least, my non-alcohol Hoppy fix from the Brooklyn Brewery. Truth be told, plenty of more good eats I know I missed. Just got so full even though I paced myself. Nothing went to waste. All was fantastic. This was a grand showcase of food and fine folks who came to celebrate and sponsor Queens Center for Progress. You should read up on what they do and how you can help as well, post- event. This is one of my favorite events, whether or not I attend thru Yelp. Dig deep, in your heart and your pockets and give to this Wonderful Institution. All guests had a chance to bid on silent auction items ranging from spa days, golf equipment, signed Knicks jerseys, and celebrity autographed memorabilia. But the best items were the art work showcased and created by the kids. I just really enjoy the event. It's a fun night out. Better luck next year if you didn't get in this year. There is also a Yelp discount code for tickets every year. You gotta try it at least once.

When I RSVP'd for this I thought it would be tapas or hors d'oeuvres. But it was SO much more -- I was stunned when I walked through the ballroom door and saw how many people there were, and just how much food there was! If I had known, I would've fasted the day prior so I could sample everything. I have serious serious regrets that I was not able to try more. There was SO much to eat and SO many things to take pictures of (food from different cuisines, sweets, snacks, liquor, beer, wine, silent auction goodies, a mini-casino area, etc) -- I tried to soak it all in rather than take photos. I took some, but I'm almost embarrassed to post them because they don't do the event justice at ALL. You just have to be there. There were at least 36 participating restaurants/vendors and each had designated stations and an ample supply of delicious food, drink, plates, flatware, and napkins. My favorites were Arepalicious with their mini arepas drizzled with condensed milk, Shanghai You Garden's dumplings (I typically hate dumplings), Bourbon Street's boo coo balls, Austin's Ale House's buffalo mac, and of course, Zyr's gin. I'm not a gin drinker but wow, their quince and blood orange gin were DELICIOUS (their vodka and whisky were also smooth as hell). Everything was done very well. I also loved that it was a Queens Center for Progress event, which is an NPO committed to supporting people with developmental disabilities. I work in mental health and it was heartwarming to see so many people participating for such a good cause. It was also my first time at Terrace on the Park despite living in Queens basically my entire life. Parking was SO easy too so everything was extremely convenient. A huge thank you to Jando and the Yelp team for sponsoring this special event and inviting us! It was a genuine blast and an unforgettable night.

A very different experience from any of our usual Yelp Elite events. This was held in Terrace on the Park, a location I've only been in once for my cousins wedding. The building itself is shaped in a crazy "T" shape and has a post modern feel to it. Located in the large and diverse Flushing Corona Park, it's one buildings that was constructed during the World's Fair. Certainly one of Queen's most unique looking buildings. To get there, you can take the 7 train or a bus. The walk is a bit of a distance since the park is so large. Once you get to the entrance, you were greeted by people who were working the event. They led you the table where you signed in. The people at the sign in desk were amazed by Yelp's attention to detail since the Yelp members were highlighted in blue. A server told us to follow her upstairs since she was going that way anyways. The servers and all the vendors were all very nice and helpful! The hall where this event was held was gigantic! I didn't expect it to be so large. There were a lot of vendors, live music and many excited people enjoying their night. The event was held by The Queens Center for Progress. I loved how the money from this event went to helping to support people with developmental disabilities. Any event that goes to a bigger cause is always a win. Almost all of the food there was delicious. I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of vendors. I went to my favorite place, Arepalicious, and they did not disappoint. I find that their event sizes are better than their full sizes. I think the proportions are better in the smaller size. They loaded the arepas with chicken, beef and guac. How could you go wrong? My second favorite thing that I ate was the Hilton's shrimp. Sauteed shrimp on a puff pastry with smoked salmon cream cheese, red caviar, dried seaweed and caper aioli. The bite sized treat was delicious and very flavorful. I wish I had grabbed more later on in the night since they had a lot left over, but I was already too full. Lastly, I really enjoyed Shanghai You sesame balls. I just love sesame balls with red bean in them so I had 3 that night. There were many more vendors that included Bourbon Street, Austin's Ale House, Shahs Halal, Spumoni Gardens, New York Gourmet Coffee and many more. I was able to taste most of them and I was very satisfied from all the food. There was also a casino section. I'm not a big gambler so I gave my casino dollars to Andie, but I do love watching people gamble. The dealer was very charismatic and was very patient with all the questions we were asking. My favorite part of the night was talking to my fellow Yelpers. Whether it was catching up or even meeting a bunch of Yelpers that I never had the opportunity to talk to before. I had a blast staying with everyone else and getting to know everyone a bit better. Thank you to Jando and the Yelp team for letting us join in on a very special event!

Thank you Yelp and Jando!! This event was so much fun! It was fun to dress up as well and support a great cause! The venue is beautiful and was set up with a multitude of samples of food and drinks. I did try to sample everything and failed miserably. There was just too much to eat. There was also a casino section where I played roulette, which was a great idea to have. There was also a poker and a black jack table. From the food, I would say my favorite was the empanadas, the spring rolls from Shanghai You, and the Halal Food from Shah's. It was great to meet other yelp elites and some influential people in the queens community. I would definitely come back next year to support!

Simply an AMAZING event and I'm so honored to that I was able to take part of it. The purpose of the event was so powerful and meaningful to me. I was able to see some friendly faces from the community like Council Member Barry Grodenchik, who is always an honor to speak to. There were many other community advocates and friendly faces. The food: this event had over 30 of Queens best restaurants, the amount of food was outstanding and so delicious and let's not forget the drinks, drinks, drinks!!! A special thanks for all the restaurants who took part of this event. As usual I had a great time hanging out with fellow Elites (Hey, Támesis) and just getting to know some new people. Thank you to the Yelp staff and shout out to Jando, always a pleasure to see you :-)!

It was an evening to remember for sure and glad I could take my mom as a +1 because my lady knows how to gamble haha. The Evening of Fine Food for the Queens Center of Progress is a great cause and it was wonderful to see so many people from this beautiful and diverse borough come together with tons of food and drinks plus silent auctions, photo booths, and a casino. Again the mama bear took over the craps table. Rolling in the deep with that fake money. There was plenty to eat from juicy flavorful pork from Havana Central to bomb Greek staples from Avli to sweet flavor delights from La Cheesecake. It was such a lively atmosphere and everyone was having quite a night. Even got to see the scatterings of my fellow Yelpers who were there and agreed it was quite an event. Major props to everyone involved who made this event happen and for Yelp Queens for the invite. An evening to remember for sure.

What a fantastic event this was! This event was really cool because all the vendors were local queens eateries. We were able to try some amazing dishes from some amazing restaurants. LaGuardia Plaza Hotel Element - served some great lobster croquettes, which were perfectly crisp and well-seasoned. Ole Mexican Grille had some great steak tacos, the meat was tender and beautifully seasoned. The wine room of forest Hills had some great selections of wine Magnolia Room, had some really good jambalaya, literally reminded me of my trip to new Orleans! Schmidt's Candy- which I was super excited about! The New York Times wrote an article about them , and I'm so glad I was able to try their chocolates! So many great vendors and so many great food options for such a tiny person as myself, I tried my best to try a little bit of everything and I'm so glad I did! I have a list of places I need to go visit, and I'm so excited! This event was hosted by Queens Center for Progress, basically an organization that helps those with disabilities at Terrace on The Park. The hall was beautiful, I didn't realize how huge it was until someone told me to go to the other side. Everything was so organized and very well put together! Everyone was friendly and even though we weren't too dressed up, we felt welcomed. I love events like this because we're introduced to restaurants that we never knew about. So thank you Jando for putting this together and giving us the opportunity to try such amazing food.

What an AMAZING event hosted by Queens Centers for Progress also known as QCP. It was truly an honor to be apart of this amazing event cause not only it was a night of fine food, but a great cause! The event literally hit to the heart cause anyone who knows me knows I work with children as well as adults with developmental disabilities! This event was truly well attended, and very well organized, with silent auctions, raffles, a black jack table and much more. The evening was perfectly named as an evening of fine food, with it being filled with amazing food vendors, ranging from savory, spicy, sweet and even mixed in some of my favorite COFFEE!! Many of the food vendors caught my attention making me want to bookmark it as my places to try out!! Some of the great foods that I was able to taste that totally stood out in my eye was: LaGuardia Plaza Hotel, empanadas Shahs Halal food!! The white sauce and green sauce is to die for!! Super flavorful! Spumoni Gardens: there pizza has a beautiful sweet but flavorful sauce, and the dough is so yummy! Made fresh organic: their fresh pressed drinks are amazing especially the lemonade ginger one! ZYR Vodka! Was awesome made a super fan out of their vodka, very smooth going down. Arepalicious!!! My super fave with the cheese goodness and the flavorful chicken oh my! Packed with savory goodness!! New York Gourmet Coffee: very smooth and has a fresh but strong aroma, but coffee was nicely brewed just how I like it! And Javamelt with their smart way of making flavored sweetners! Honestly I can keep going on and on! Everything was truly fabulous! I truly want to give a big thank you to QCP for an amazing charity event I hope your organization made a lot from last night in order to keep doing an amazing job for our children and adults with developmental disabilities. Also I want to give a big thank you to Yelp team, and Jando for allowing me to be apart of this truly special event, it truly was an honor to be chosen!

Which was a rally that they were going to do on April fifteen to raise the wage of commercial fast food chains workers to fifteen dollars. Hey if Chicago can do it why not here? Maybe overall as a whole nation? They had for the rally free food that they were bringing in so that they can box it to give out to the people coming. But that is not even the tip of the ice berg, one of the workforce personal I met even told me they do things such as try to fight to lower the medical bills of their members if it is that bad. They are really doing all they can to help immigrants do better here in the US. Now their building is pretty cool. It is bright and full of stuff. As soon as you enter you see good amounts of South American flags which adds a pop to the sign they have. You see cut out pages of Hispanic papers, that I am assuming shows headlines of something significant they did, on the walls that are framed. There rooms are not that big which is saying a lot because from what it looked like at least three co workers are in a room. The craziest thing is for all the different programs they have all the rooms are the same size. That is saying a lot for what they have accomplished with such minimal space. They had on some rooms adults learning English, or at least I an assuming that; while what looked like to me a little kids education center. They had a presentation room where I was sitting that was big and spacious. The place was chaotic but you expect nothing less from such a big organization.

Two workers came and negotiated a very fair price (so "fair" that I actually upped their compensation by the end of the day) and they committed to the entire list, which they finished despite unforeseen challenges with hardware, equipment, and really difficult installation spaces in my apartment. They had tools and were really creative about finding workarounds where necessary. There's an elevator to the upstairs banquet hall if you can't use the small staircase, and this was where the flea market was. It mainly seemed to be people selling things they no longer wanted, costume jewelry, books, glassware, clothes - one lady did manage to find a stunning fur coat. They apparently hold Saturday night dances, I saw a flyer for one advertising Latin & Italian oldies, classics, and Top 40 from 8pm-12am with food, coffee, tea, dessert, and alcohol. I would love to see the crowd that comes out for that! This is a community center, so you can rent space or give money to various fundraisers they hold, all in all it's a great local resource.

I found Veterans Rebuilding Life (VRL) on Google and its been an amazing experience. They are very respectful and understand the trials of a military veteran in regards to the time consuming process of applying for Veterans Affairs (VA) resources and services. I was able to get some emergency food, clean clothes, socks, hygiene products as well as opportunity to work gigs to make money through Veterans Rebuilding Life (VRL) non-profit's huge list of supporters. I feel blessed to have stumbled on this non-profit that really does what they say to change the narrative of how veterans are being treated in this country. If your a person who's interested in donating to a non-profit that really gets to the root of the problem and provides a solution think of VeteransRebuildingLife.org they can use your donations to help more veterans like myself get on their feet. Thank you so much VRL!

From the very start, Kristie was so kind, caring, and devoted to making sure their dogs find the perfect forever homes. You can tell how much love they pour into every one of these sweet pups. Amanda and Danielle, that both fostered her were so caring and helpful with all my extra questions too! Gracie Mae has already stolen our hearts -- she gives the best kisses, loves belly rubs, and always wants to be right in the middle of the family action. She's shaken, not stirred, and now officially ruling our castle. Thanks to Happily Ever After Rescue, Margaret a.k.a Margarita became Gracie Mae -- and we truly got our happily ever after.

Pre-Script: Search HEAR Long Island on Reddit. I wish had…read more Original Post: I'm a person living with a disability, seeking a non-service companion to join my family with my aging service dog. HEAR was aware of this via my detailed application and references. I reached out to HEAR via PetFinder very interested in a pup, Relish, who appeared to be a good match with my family. I entered the adoption process, got all of my references confirmed, completed a virtual home visit, set a meet time, and was sent additional pics and videos of Relish after the visit--all validating Relish as a potential match. It was a very hopeful and exciting moment. However, in the same text I was informed I was approved for adoption from HEAR, I was also informed Relish was just adopted, within 18 hours of my confirmed meetup. Prior to this, I was not informed I was competing for the match. Had I advance notice, I might've made other arrangements, but I wasn't offered the opportunity or the warning. I've volunteered for and dealt with more than a dozen rescue agencies in my region as an advocate and supporter, as well as several others throughout my childhood. None of the agencies I've worked with have been less transparent than HEAR. No one wants to be in the position of visualizing a potential family member in their lives, and planning for that hopeful first meeting, only to have them cancelled from the equation less than 18 hours before the meet--removed with no notice of other variables.Instead, they sent pics of other dogs. I've requested my adoption application with HEAR be closed, as I would never recommend anyone who wishes to ethically enter a relationship with a rescue rely on HEAR for the availability of the hopeful companion, or transparency in general. Reply to HEAR's response to this post: HEAR says there were delays. HEAR says I'd rather garden?? These are absolute falsehoods. The timeline below is clear. All communications and appointments were honored. May 11, Kristie confirmed my May 10 application and requested documentation of my landlord's permission to have a second dog. May 12, I submitted that documentation. May 14, Kristie apologizes for *her* delay, and informs me she'll be reaching out to my three references. All references responded the same day, after I let them know to check their "unknown numbers" folder. Friday, May 15, at 7:28pm, a virtual home visit is requested by Kristie. I was already on my farmstead for the weekend--I detailed the farmstead in my application. I let Kristie know I was upstate, and offered to FaceTime from there or when I got back home. She said she'd wait. I proposed a meet time, but Kristie said it could happen whenever, to just text her when I'm home, that she'd be "around." I texted Monday, May 18 to make arrangements. We set it for the next day, May 19. The virtual visit happened with her partner, Sam, because Kristie was unavailable when I texted. During that meeting, an appointment was made to specifically meet Relish on May 23 at the HEAR event. Prior to the arranged meet date, I inquired of its flexibility because planting became a factor--planting is absolutely critical and 100% dependent on weather and climate. Sam responded that probably wouldn't work. So, I CONFIRMED the original meet time. I very clearly confirmed my motivation and intent to meet and spend time with this specific sweet boy, Relish. Still, he was adopted out from under me. NOT ONCE was I informed there were other applicants for him. Not once were any other factors or obstacles to adopting Relish mentioned. And not once did I miss any appointments or communications. I've dealt with much more honest and ethical agencies. It's HEAR's opaque practices that might hurt their ability to adopt, not this honest review. Post-Script: Sam even mentioned she didn't want to leave Relish alone at night with her dogs, because "god forbid something happen." Apparently, that was a legitimate risk as per Reddit. It's absolutely shocking that injury to fosters is still a risk they take.

Hi folks welcome to The local Abbe Flushing Boys Club. With a history of serving our neighborhood,…read morethis Boys Club was a great choice for our early poling place. This election year of 2020 carries an importance that I've not seen before in my life. My grandmother would tell us stories of her involvement with the Suffragette movement in the early 1900's. Women did not always have the right to vote. Voting equality was so important to my Grandma. She would tell us stories that would cry of their bravery and courage. So brave, my little grandma.. in the face of oppression and brutality. To honor the sacrifices of many, I have always realized my greater responsibility in voting. Having conducted advance recognizance here a few weeks previously, I knew this was indeed my early voting spot, and how to get here. Walking the few miles to vote this morning, was a personal experience as well. After a little while, I felt my mother and grandmother walking alongside with me. Then, I felt that my whole family was walking with me together. As I walked. I felt like I was seeing through all their eyes.. like looking through a chain of endless mirrors. Stretching back through all my family's dreams for love and equality for everyone. I had to stop a moment and realize their love and what was happening. It was beautiful and emotional ... The experience inspired me to vote today no matter what. I arrived at 9 am today for 12 pm opening. I was #2 on the line. Getting some advance info from security and poling workers, I knew the situation before walking in. Of course I had already peeked inside. I was all ready to vote and help folks with info. Grandpa and Grandma were married on election day. They would both dress up in their finest wedding outfits and go vote each year. As I grew, I understood why it was so important to vote ..and that our American rights can be taken away if we're not watching.

Because I have never worked here, I can not comment on what it is like from that vantage point. What if there were an organization that believed every boy in New York City deserves the opportunity to succeed and made that opportunity available to all who wanted it? Well, actually there is, and it's called the Boys Club of New York, an organization that has been mentoring boys since 1876! The Abbe Club House is the newest and therefore the most modern of the club's three locations (the others being in Harlem and in the Lower East Side). Many people know the names of the graduates who have become professional and division one basketball players but just as important are those who have made their names in the arts, business and politics in large part due to the club providing each with the opportunity to succeed! To achieve their goals, the club provides after school academic support as well as athletic programs and help obtaining scholarships to both elite private schools and colleges. Because they are privately funded, but believe each boy should contribute something, their annual fee is set at $5 per school year. And I thought the dumplings in Flushing were a good buy!!!!
