Had an amazing time here. I was a little confused and did get off the wrong bus here. Thankfully it was only a block or two away. The grounds were so beautiful. I appreciate the shaded areas because it was super hot outside. I came here for a wine festival. It was a cute little event. I was a little shocked that my allergies didn't act up because everhtime I go to a park i am sneezing my head off. I found it cool that some of the trees had some plaques on them for remembrance. I loved the cute little ponds. I should have walked to other areas to check out the other grounds. I'm not sure if I would come back for a day visit. This is the second year I have went to the wine and Spirits festival here and it was great event. It was more that came out early this year than last year. Parking was $15.00 at one point the parking lot was full but then it opened up again. Lucky for me I found street parking. So many vendors great tasting wines different flavors and Spirits and hard seltzers and beer. They also had crazy potatoe, Empanadas and lobster rolls if you wanted an bite to eat. The DJ was awesome spinning some good summer hits. The event was from 1pm-4:30pm. read more

I'm so obsessed with this place! After going to Brooklyn Botanical Garden, I had low expectations for the one in Queens but I was blown out the water. There's a $6 entrance fee which is a lot cheaper than other botanical gardens in the City but also the size of the garden is also a lot smaller. Here are some of my favorite parts of the garden: - I love how many different types of seating they had throughout. I could imagine myself here writing in my diary while experiencing all the different views. - Although the place is very small, I really enjoyed all the little gardens they have to emulate different environments like the small woodland (aka Pacific Northwest) type environment. I thought it was all very cute. - I absolutely adored the promenade near the visitor center as it was lined with tulips. - And most importantly, if you have allergies and forget to bring a mask - go to the storefront and the visitor center because they actually have masks for you! What a life saving moment. Overall great botanical garden! You can probably complete the whole experience within 1 hour but its great if you want a break from eating at Downtown Flushing. read more

This might not be as big as the garden in Brooklyn, but it's definitely worth a visit! In the visitor center, there's a small gift shop area (they sell honey sticks!), bathrooms, and meeting rooms. There is an on-site parking lot. You can probably do the whole garden in one visit/afternoon and then grab a bite to eat a little further down main street. The wedding garden is beautiful! You can reserve it to hold your wedding ceremony and the process to book it is quick and easy (provided you do it in advance). Free parking for wedding guests. Chairs, a table, and sound system are included in the price. The only downside is that it gets really hot during the summer as shade is limited and your guests will be sitting in direct sun. Good spot if you want to have a wedding in NYC. read more

I attended the FP Garden Party at Queens Botanical Garden on Saturday. I had a wonderful time. The DJ played great music and the drinks were flowing. There were cocktails made with Casamigos Tequila, Bulleit Bourbon and Crown Royal. My favorite drink was the Bourbon Whiskey Sour. The garden was beautifully decorated with flowers and nice backdrops for pictures. There was also a car that you could take photos in that had flowers in the trunk. Someone actually brought a double dutch rope. I haven't jumped in years. I was glad to see that I could still jump. There were also vendors selling their merchandise such as handbags. Maya Winston had some beautiful handbags on display and they gave out some goodie bags for the guests. The weather was beautiful. I'll definitely be returning next year to the FP Garden Party. read more

Like I mentioned earlier, don't rush thru this path, or you'll find yourself at the exit really quickly. At their high prices, you'll want to stay a while. Tickets are sold for specific timeslots but we got there early, and they let us in right away. Street Parking in the area can be challenging but you may get lucky like we did, or pay for parking at the Queens Botanical Garden. But I would suggest looking for street parking first. There are a couple of food, beverage and merchandise vendors. Plenty of restrooms; you'll want to use the ones inside the offices at the entrance, unless you're a fan of the porta toilets (no thanks!). This is a review for the Astra Lumina limited exhibit. Remind me to never visit a light show in NYC ever again. Tickets for just my wife and I were over 90 bucks. Two drinks and two small snacks were over $50. For these prices, you get a handful of (admittedly) cool light displays, but mostly a whole lot of "meh" and cheap videos on 20 year-old LCD screens. There was a lot of wasted space, and a path too narrow to allow people to stop and admire the exhibits. Everyone was constantly pushing in front of eachother to take pictures. Good news? Uhh...the bathrooms are clean? And there's benches along the path for people to rest on. Total runtime will be about 45 minutes - 1 hour. Frankly, even if the tickets were half the price, it still wouldn't have been worth it. You can do better, NYC. read more

We had high hopes for the Mother's Day Brunch at Queens Botanical Garden -- it sounded like such a lovely idea: brunch and tea in the wedding garden starting at 11am. Unfortunately, the actual experience was deeply disappointing and frustrating, especially for families with young children. We arrived on time and were met with a long line of guests just standing in the sun, waiting to be let in. It was 40 minutes past the start time before anyone was allowed in, and there was no explanation or communication from staff. Meanwhile, we could literally see one of the employees inside the garden, casually eating one of the sandwiches that was supposed to be for the group. That pretty much set the tone. When we were finally let in, the organization was clearly a mess. Guests were being awkwardly and randomly assigned to tables, most of which were fully exposed in the heat with little or no shade -- not ideal for kids or anyone, really. And then...nothing happened. For almost another 90 minutes. No food. No beverages. No staff offering updates. Kids were melting down, adults were confused and increasingly upset. I asked one of the employees if there was an ETA for food, and she actually said, "Yeah, there is one." When I asked if she could share it, she replied, "I don't know -- I was just sent here 15 minutes ago to put on music." (Spoiler: she couldn't get the music to work either -- just loud static.) At one point, a guest volunteered to start bringing food out, and the employee said, "Yeah, go into that building and start bringing out food." So my husband and that guest actually did -- because otherwise, we still wouldn't have eaten. It was surreal. Nearly two hours after the official start time, they finally started putting out some crackers and drinks. Eventually, the entire event was such a flop that they issued refunds to all guests -- but by then, the damage was done. Many people, including us, left hungry, frustrated, and with no chance of salvaging a Mother's Day meal elsewhere due to holiday crowds. This event was an organizational failure from start to finish. We understand that things can go wrong, but the lack of preparation, communication, and basic hospitality was unacceptable -- especially for a ticketed event on a day meant to be special. read more

The weather was in the high 80s today. Queens Botanical Garden is located in the heart of Flushing and conveniently within walking distance from the Flushing-Main Street subway station. They do accept cash and credit card. The adult admission was six dollars. I started strolling through the Helen and Martin Kaltman Fragrance Walk. I photographed the beautiful flowers along the way. Lastly, I walked over to the Cherry Circle & Four Seasons Border. There were so many beautiful cherry blossom trees. The light pink and white petals were floating down. It was such a beautiful moment! The restrooms were located inside and outside of the Visitor & Administration Building. read more

After a day of eating and walking around in Flushing, we decided to burn off some extra calories at the QBG which was a short walk and an even quicker drive over from Flushing Main Street. Luckily, it was Wednesday after 3pm so there was free admission. I liked that there was ample parking available and the garden was quite peaceful. However, as a regular BBG goer, I had to say I was unimpressed with the size and variety of plants at the QBG. The Rose Garden was currently filled with tulips which were very bright and colorful and rose trellises but I would have liked some more flowers or foliage as most of the space felt inhabited by empty soulless lawn. The Cherry Circle had like two cherry trees in bloom and so many people were waiting in line to snap a selfie. It was definitely a far cry from the Cherry Esplanade at the BBG. I agree with the Yelper who said it felt more like a park than a botanical garden. It's a very underrated and peaceful oasis but honestly I don't think I would be interested in going unless there is free admission (currently Sundays 9-11a and Wednesdays 3-6p). You could walk through the whole thing in an hour easy. read more

If you're a fan of the outdoors or seeing nature, a trip here is an absolute must. Shockingly it's not nearly as inaccessible as I thought it was since the bus to get here from the last 7 stop shows up in a timely manner and doesn't take forever. I went on an unseasonably warm day but not a boiling hot day, which feels like the ideal time to go. Lots of great things here like the Rose Garden, the herb garden, fountains and definitely lots of green and walking space though you'll occasionally hear signs of the city. I was here to get a break from some big life stuff and though I got here later than I originally planned I still feel like I got a good visit that was worth the trip even bringing my lunch with me and eating outside. My mom in particular would love this place and would likely love the gift shop; I came this close to getting something there but decided against it due to having cats and not needing items I saw. I wish there was an online gift shop but there isn't so if you want something you'd better get it while you're there. I'd definitely go back with someone though going alone isn't a bad option. read more

The venue is absolutely gorgeous, the staff are incredibly helpful and they really have the whole process down to a science. They went above and beyond to make our wedding so special. The Astra Lumina is this beautiful light show at the botanical garden. They have this event seasonal every year. For a date with my girlfriend this was such an amazingly beautiful vibe. It gave such a romantic feeling with all of the beautiful lights. From the sounds, lighting, it was so euphoric walking through here. We had an absolutely magical wedding at QBG! We worked with Kamaria, who was a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond to lessen our stress and make sure the day went off without a hitch. She was very friendly and made us feel comfortable in all of our meetings with her. On the day of our wedding she was present with an assistant to make sure everything ran smoothly, and was always easy to find if we had any issues. She even saved our cake topper! When our little ceramic goose cake topper accidentally got knocked off the table and shattered on the ground, she took it back to her office, worked some magic with nail glue, and had it returned to us in one piece before the cake cutting. The garden was the perfect setting, and many of our guests commented that it was one of the most beautiful venues they've ever been to. Thank you Kamaria and thank you QBG! read more

What a nice outing! Definitely worth a visit. Opens at 8, which is great for families with young kids, if I don't say so myself. We arrived around 9 and parked in the neighborhood; we got in without anyone asking for admission. (We weren't sure if it was a timing thing or if we just got lucky.) There's also paid parking within the gates. I see what some other reviewers say about it feeling like a park, but I'd say that's true for just some of the area. Toward the back are tons of nice plants and landscaping. Overall, the style is pretty "wild" and less traditional for a botanical garden, which I really enjoyed. There are plenty of places to sit, and lots of paths were occupied by people dancing and exercising this given Sunday morning. The wedding garden, which was closed off for a wedding, looked like a true oasis from the city. The children's garden, also closed by a gate, might mainly be used for programming but looked a lot of fun and a great place to learn. We can't wait to come back and stroll here. read more

Honestly, this place was underwhelming. As someone who was born and raised in Queens and has lived here her whole life, I'm surprised I never paid a visit to the Queens botanical garden. I came here using the cultural pass from the Queens library, which allowed me to visit for free with up to 4 guests. The place was smaller than expected. Since it was September, I'm assuming that's why I didn't nearly see as many interesting plants that are usually around during the spring/summer months. I did enjoy seeing some of the herbs growing in the vegetable garden. I noticed a lot of the flowers can probably be found in people's front yard or sold at the Home Depot; it was very generic flowers. Again, I'm assuming it's probably the timing that contributed to this. I have looked at some of the other pictures people posted on Yelp during May and it's a more beautiful scenery. Nonetheless, I tried to make the most out of it. Me and my sister visited most of the different garden sections available that day. We also came across the 'wedding garden', which has this beautiful gazebo and pretty florals throughout. I saw other people perusing around here and it didn't look like a wedding was taking place. Unbeknownst to us, there was a wedding reserved for that day (but was long finished before we came) and a worker shouted from the distance in his park vehicle. Ugh, I mean we didn't get in trouble but that definitely ruined my mood. As someone who's always cautious of getting reprimanded, this annoyed me. Not to mention there were a whole bunch of other people there too, but I of all people happened to catch the worker's attention. The visitors' section was closed at the time we went. There are also some cool ponds and fountains here which are very pretty. Since this is very close to Chinatown, Flushing (ok 15 minute walk but still), it's good to peruse the area for different Asian cuisine. I went to Spring Shabu Shabu for hot pot after my visit. Knowing that the orchids from the show would go on sale at the end (4pm), I planned us to get there before closing. It all worked out as planned. It's sad to see that the garden hasn't been fully cleaned. The pools that used to have coy fish are now empty and dirty. Also parts of the main walkway was covered in weeds. I guess this may reflect the city's financial difficulties. I used to consider the garden a hidden gem. Let's hope some improvements will happen soon! read more

This review is for our experience hosting a birthday party event for our son at the Queens Botanical Garden. We inquired about the venue and was setup with our NaNa event coordinator who gave us a tour and a detailed run down of what the day would look like. Several options were presented to us and provided details of the space, schedule, food, guests arrival, setup, favors, rules, etc. Given the location and space, we found the price to be pretty reasonable compared to other similar venues. We had a large private space and even had access to the outdoor balcony. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain on the day of the party, but that staff did a great job moving the lessons and pumpkin patch indoors. The kids had a great time and the staff were very helpful. Payment options could be more convenient, but we managed fine. Parking for guests are a separate charge and non refundable, so be sure to confirm before paying in advance. We liked that there was a fridge and we could bring our choice of commercially prepared food. Our son has dietary restrictions so it was nice to have the option. read more

A little bit of greenery in the middle of Queens. A mini oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of the city who is rushing to go places. This botanical garden has mini versions of a few features. A small shallow waterfall/ flow feature, starts you off at the front door. It's surrounded by a small garden of peonies, which are pretty beautiful when in full bloom, which is around May/ June. Unfortunately they aren't really that taken care of and their big beautiful heady blooms flop over from the weight of the huge flowers. Walk further into the garden and you will hit the rose garden. They have quite a variety of different types and so beautiful when in full bloom. (Check website to find out when). Around the middle of the garden, you will see the beautifully manicured wedding garden. Access is forbidden unless you have an appointment or are there to attend a wedding. It's secured off by huge bushes and white fencing. Peeking through the bushes, you can see a white wedding arch and many white chairs lined up in rows. Another short walk away, if you look carefully, you can see a small arrangement of wooden beehives, hidden behind a metal fence and some bushes. They also have a tiny vegetable garden. Let's see how many you can identify. A few statues here and there, decorate the garden. Final note: Its not much, be its a nice little quick getaway from the steel beams and exhaust fumes of the city. Go in, on Sunday before 11am and admission is free. It's a bit of a walk to Flushing's chinatown so after you're done at the botanical garden, walk over there and fill your tummy with good eats. They have a pumpkin patch event coming up on Saturday October 12 and Monday October 14. read more

Always looking forward beautiful places to walk and what's better than having a beautiful garden in our own borough to enjoy especially for FREE. My friend and I were planning to take a walk in flushing meadow park but she said "I think QBG is free til April 1st". Checked on the website and indeed it was. Not only that but parking was free as well! Score since we tried looking for street parking but couldn't find any. the garden is not too big but there were a good amount of people walking, dancing and kits hanging out on the benches. We walked around a couple times admiring the pretty flowers. Two or three of the cherry blossoms are in bloom. We were hoping for more. We watched a couple women dancing and that was fun. Far from being the Mecca of Gardens, the Queens version may be behind the New York and Brooklyn versions but it's still a nice place to spend an afternoon in Queens. The Queens Botanical Garden is kept well with a few key area of interest including the bee house, herb garden, veggie/fruit garden, the wedding gardens and a composting area. In terms of square footage, Queens may not be very large and this isn't a destination garden but if in the vicinity on a nice day, pack a lunch and visit. read more

I read a lot of reviews prior to coming here and many complained they didn't like it because it's too small. I disagree I think it being smaller makes it better. It didn't feel like a tourist trap. Ton of locals here made it feel comfortable. One thing I liked was how fresh the air was ,unfortunately masks are still being worn everywhere but it's safe to take it off with nobody around in my opinion to smell the flowers and trees. Many people also said it's like a park but I think a lot of people didn't take the time to stop and read the small signs and labels , you would be surprised at how many various different trees and plants there are. One thing I noticed though was how most of the flowers were wilted or dry/looked dead. Maybe it's because it's not spring but I don't know. I definitely enjoyed it and loved seeing the bees and small herbs too. Make sure to explore the whole area because it was my first time here and I was walking around in circles near the entrance at the beginning. read more

Now that I live in Brooklyn, I've been volunteering here for movie nights. It's $15.00 dollars per person, price includes a $5.00 voucher for appetizers and popcorn. Most items are $1.00, including soft drinks. Some other drinks can be $2 or $3.00. Tonight is movie number 4. A nightmare before Christmas and 10/30 will be coco. Which is the last movie. They open the gates, and you pick a spot on the grass area in front of screen. Lay out blanket or chair. Some walk around a little before movie starts. I'll definitely will enjoy tonight's movie, hopefully it won't get cancel again due to weather. read more

A green oasis in the middle of Flushing, the Queens Botanical Garden offers a nice alternative to the Chinatown scene that Flushing has become known for. QBG still enjoys the distinction of "hidden gem" status despite being *the* botanical garden of the borough. There are all sorts of interesting things to see here. It's not just a literal garden with interesting plants (#1) but the eco-community and various programs they've established is fantastic. There are activities for anyone with a green thumb and especially for anyone who is interested in learning more about the environment and plant life. Hence, this spot is kid friendly, group friendly, and a fun place to venture solo as well. The other interesting thing is that the QBG does a great job of changing it up every season. It never looks the same whenever I'm here and I've been impressed with their usage of the space. Everything from private events to photo sessions, they've proven their versatility in so many aspects. They also have volunteer programs, group tours, summer programming, and year round membership. I recently visited the Queens Botanical Garden for the first time. It is located in the Flushing neighborhood and a great stop after lunch. Although I was hoping to see a variety of plants, I was disappointed to find only a small section for sale. However, admission is free until the end of March and the garden offers free events. During my visit, there were scavenger hunts, story times, live music, a cherry blossom plant-making activity, and food and drinks from a separate venue. Parking may be challenging to find if you're looking for a close-by spot. Masks are still required inside and they have a water bottle refill station. I came here one day because I had a free pass from my job. Although it is not grand or unique in comparison to the other NYC botanical gardens, it holds a special place in my heart. This location is small and tucked away in a busy area. There are MANY couples on dates on any given weekday and it is nice to people watch.
