The Astral Lumina light show event was underwhelming. The price was really high for a mediocre activity. The one in Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a much more sophisticated, elegant display with a lot more content. The upswing for the Queens one was the staff was all extremely friendly, parking was easy (not cheap though), and it was pleasant to be outside. Would suggest a more robust program to update this average event. read more

My wife and I got married here in October! The staff were very professional and pleasant to work with. We brought our own catering and our event went off without any major issues. It rained that day, but the venue was still beautiful and memorable. read more

More like 3.75 stars. The Queens Botanical Garden is so small, that any attempt to compare it with the Bronx and/or Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is absurd. This green space doesn't even get close to offer what the other two do, both in terms of size and variety. You can easily stroll it in less than 1 hour... taking your sweet time. Nevertheless, it's still worth a trip, especially on Sunday morning 9-11, when the admission ticket (usually $6) is free (from April to October). My favorite spot is the Wedding Garden, which is only accessible, I guess, when you are invited to a wedding there. Peaceful... except for the planes flying over toward LGA airport. It had been literally 39 or 40 years since I'd last gone there, but we finally got around to visiting today and we really enjoyed it. Indeed it's much smaller than the (huge) Bronx Botanical Garden and even the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, but it's certainly worth visiting (we were there for nearly 1 1/2 hours and that was enough time to see everything). There's still a lot in bloom and everything was pretty & colorful, plus it's all beautifully maintained. Also, the staff were exceptionally friendly. We purposely visited on a Wednesday afternoon, since there's free admission from 3-6 p.m. (as with Sundays from 9-11 a.m.). However, note that there's still a ($6) charge for parking. read more

Unbelievable winter day- high 50's and what a better way to enjoy it but to visit a botanical park. Although flowers and trees branches were no where to be seen, breathing fresh air and the excitement feeling that soon will be spring made me stop by at this park. It's been a while that I haven't visited this place. I could use a walk during this no work day (president's day) anyway. Glad that during this off-peak season visit , they put up an exhibit in their main building of a popular photographer and his photographs concentrated on two of my favorite Queens neighborhood- the LIC and Astoria. It gave me a reason to stay a little longer than planned. The park has free admission until spring kicks in and definitely coming back to enjoy what this palce offers. read more

I love Flushing. No, not that kind of flushing, silly. Am referring to a certain vibrant Queens neighborhood, known primarily for its diverse 'n delicious Chinese food scene. Alas, my main partners in crime, aka hubby and kid, don't quite share my enthusiasm. Thus, if I want them to join me, I sometimes have to employ an evil scheme to entice them. In this case, I lured them with the promise of nature, what with this being located along the more quiet part of Flushing's Main Street: Anyway, hubby, kid and I were here in mid-October sometime, not long before free admission kicks in, apparently from November - March. Clearly, we need to work on our timing. That said, we enjoyed the tranquil hour or so we spent walking the grounds. Yes, tranquil! In Flushing! For that alone, this place was worth the price of admission. We also, miraculously, given that it was autumn and all, happened upon some gorgeous, still-blooming lavender daisies. Even more miraculously, they were inundated with swarms and swarms of butterflies! Aside from this, a lot of the plants we encountered, including those at a cute, little herb garden were either kaput or on the verge. We were able to find street parking, since as I mentioned, this is located in the more low key part of Flushing. The Botanical Garden also provides an on-site lot, fwiw. If you're a greenery fanatic, this won't even remotely compare with the BK Botanical Garden, or from what I hear, the one in the Bronx. If, however, your true goal is good eats, then this isn't very far from a bunch of worthy Flushing food stops, including Yeh's Bakery for Boston Creme Pie, Kung Fu for Soup Dumplings and in the opposite direction, Patel Brothers, for cheap spices, along with numerous options as you continue to walk past Patel. And now back to that aforementioned evil scheme of mine. When we were done soaking up nature, I was all, "Honey (looks innocent), why don't we just grab some dinner nearby?" The Queens Botanical Garden is a nicely maintained garden but was a bit on the small and underwhelming side. We just popped in to check it out since it was near our bus stop. There weren't a lot of flowers in bloom which I wasn't expecting since it was early July. It does look like there's a beautiful wedding garden area but since there was a reception in progress we didn't get to check it out. Overall the garden was nice to stop by but I wouldn't plan a day around going to it. read more

Much smaller than the Botanical Garden in the Bronx. However, it is still a beautiful and relaxing place to walk around with a good variety of flowers to look at. I also noticed that they have a garden that they rent out for events like weddings. This is not really a place one should go out of their way to visit - it's basically just a nice park with greater of plants. Pretty easy to get to - It took me less than 10 minutes to walk here from the Main Street 7 train stop. read more

Inhabiting one block for a botanical garden as it's smaller than its brother garden--Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Many visits to this garden at various times of the year with the seasons change, it is always quit charming but not the same extreme of greens and abundance of flowers. Parking not a problem with Muni Meter on Main Street, but with the sound of traffic exhausting from Main Street and the roar of planes landing and taking off from LaGuardia park patrons would not achieve inner peace at Queens Botanical Garden. read more

Second week in New York and decided to venture out to a place that isn't to far away from my new home. Gardens are well manicured, pathways are clear, and the walk through the various gardens was very serene and peaceful. Parking is $8 and the entry fee is $6. The entry fee is good for all day so I was able to leave out the Main Street entrance to search for lunch, and return to continue my tour of the gardens. I wore bug repellent which worked well on the first leg of the trip. It was hot and sunny for most of the commute, but there was shade and a nice cool breeze. The repellent wasn't as effective on the return (after lunch) so I would suggest using bug repellent and keeping it with you if it's hot to avoid being pestered before completing the self guided tour of the gardens. They have outdoor bathrooms (Porto potties), however they also have indoor restrooms in the gift /information center (preferred). read more

This is a pretty sweet little botanical garden. However, I think that it functions more as a park than as a botanical garden, meaning it is a better place for just enjoying the outdoors than trying to learn about botany. We paid just $4 for admission with our student IDs. Regular adult admission is $6/per. They do have free admission days; I believe it is Wednesday and Sunday for a certain number of hours - call to confirm! On a Saturday morning, we were easily able to procure street parking along one side of the park. There is a parking lot available though, which I believe is free with the price of admission. Again, double check this since I didn't park in the lot. However, finding street parking shouldn't be difficult. There are a few cool fountain/running water installations, but I think the most interesting thing to see in the garden is the administrative and visitor's building which was designed very thoughtfully. More information can be found on a placard outside the building. They use all recycled water in the bathrooms and in addition to recycled building material, it also has a green roof! In addition to this building, I was most impressed with the herb garden, where we found a ton of different types of herbs growing together Everything looked extremely healthy and the wildlife wasn't bad either - we found a camouflaged lizard! I also found some awesome (and cheap) air plants in their gift shop! I wasn't sure if they were on sale, but I asked and when they told me how much they were, I had to take them home!! They are also still having an orchid sale as of 9/2/2017, so if you are in the market for some beautiful pots of flowers, head on over! read more

It may be small compared to the Botanical Gardens in Brooklyn and the Bronx, but it's a nice oasis amidst the crowds and hectic commerce in Flushing. There is a $6 fee in warmer months unless you are a member in which case it's free admission. Annual membership is $50. On certain days it's free for all for a few hours. Also, in the winter and autumn there's free admission. The flowers are beautiful and today I saw two weddings. The grounds are nice with benches scattered about and there's an herb garden near the building towards the back. The lovely smells and sights of Nature in its glory are a welcome respite amidst the hustle and bustle of busy Flushing. I'm glad this Botanical Garden exists for people to enjoy. I love outdoor adventures especially while the weather is nice; however, I was a little disappointed by this one. I went here on a sunday for the Fall Harvest Festival so maybe I went during the wrong season, but I felt like the park is HUGE and there's hardly any flowers or "Garden" to see. The wedding gardens was probably the nicest part, but obviously we weren't going to wander in there with a wedding going on. One other idea... they should have a cafe somewhere within the grounds! Long walks make people hungryyyy (aka HANGRY!!). The actual event itself was a little ridiculous, because there was a 45 minute line to get in, pay $12 for entrance fee [[for what?? I'm not sure]] (plus $10 for parking), and then they had only 1 food vendor (where you had to wait another 1+ hour for limited options). The gardens normally cost $6 to get in ($4 with student ID) so that's not too bad on a normal day I guess. I am not sure if I should judge this place by this one event, so if I were to come back, I am assuming it would be much nicer during the Spring. We parked on the side streets across the street from the park... it's a long walk to get to an entrance though so make sure you remember what street you parked on if you opt for street parking! read more

Definitely not worth the $4 admission fee on a Saturday afternoon in July. (Credit cards accepted for $12 min. spend.) I didn't bother taking pictures because there was hardly anything worth photographing. What few flora were in bloom were mostly wilted from the heat or just plain unremarkable. The only highlights from my 15-minute walk through the entire garden were a wedding taking place in the tiny Wedding Garden and the Colombian flower wheels on display by the visitor center. More disappointing still, all the grounds north of the Bee Garden (which by the way is just two beehives in a hidden enclosure) were poorly manicured, clearly in need of mowing and weeding. To add insult to injury, ugly chain-link fences line area north of the arboretum. I've seen public parks that were better designed and maintained than this. I had high hopes before visiting, but Queens Botanical Garden needs to get its ducks in a row. read more

Beautiful and serene, the Queens Botanical garden is a great spot to check out on a nice summer day. We initially came to check out the Taiwanese Orchid festival and ended up walking around the rest of the park. The orchid festival was nice, they had live entertainment in front of the Administration building where it was being held (a girls expressive dance group) with crowd participation, hilarious! We walked into a room consumed with beautiful orchids. They had floral arrangements setup that could be used in the most extravagant weddings and a large array of colorful, naturally designed orchids. From yellow and purple to red striped and purple spotted, we were in awe at their beauty. We saw a ton of photoshoots going on too; wedding, pregnancy photos it was cool to be nosey and watch them do their thang. I will definitely return. read more

I came her today with my clients and coworkers and I wasn't impressed. Sad to say but we didn't have a good time. I'm not sure if it was because it was Sunday or what but it just wasn't it. Admission was 4 dollars for adults which isn't bad at all. Very reasonable price for what you're getting. We arrived at the Gardens and it wasn't very entertaining. It felt like a regular park around the way. Nothing spectacular was going on whatsoever. My clients were begging to go back home. Such a disaster. The wedding garden looked bad. Think of it as a lovely park with flowers. If you think of it as a botanical garden, it fails since it really can't compete with the bigger botanical gardens in the city. But it's still a beautiful place to spend a few hours. Anything that breaks up city life with a nature walk is great in my book. And it's cheap ($4) with free hours (Wednesday, 3-6pm and Sunday, 4-6pm) and free months (Free admission November 1 through March 31). Also check their site for reduced admission (for instance, AAA gets you two for the price of one). A little bit of a walk (10 min) from the 7 train or you could take a bus. Would definitely return if I was going to be in this area and if I lived closer, I'd go all the time. read more

I went here with two friends of mine when it was free 3-6 PM on Wednesdays. I'm thankful of this, because I certainly would not have paid for the visit. While the garden itself was promising, I was disappointed by the size of the premises. It's very clear that Queens Botanical Garden is set in a city with nature fighting for space against civilization. While some parts of the garden were scenic with fresh flowers blooming, I wasn't particularly impressed or awestruck by natural beauty. This is a great garden. In the fall they have a great pumpkin patch. You buy pumpkins and drink hot cider. In the summer they have wonderful garden parties with live music and drinks. There always great photo opportunities with the gardens varying exhibits. read more

I'm no botanical expert, but the exhibits they had were really beautiful and well maintained. We saw just about every nook and walked the entire length of the garden and back in about 2 hours. I've been to the Queens Botanical Garden a few times now. It's a nice, peaceful oasis away from the chaos that is Main Street. I've never been wowed by this place, though. It pales in comparison to the Botanical Gardens in the other boroughs such as the Bronx, Brooklyn or even Staten Island. They can do so much more with this space. A lot of it is just empty. Shame. I came here yesterday for the Fall Harvest Festival. What a cluster that was! It was very unorganized and just a hot mess. The line to get in was shockingly long and around the corner. Admission was $12. Really not expensive but I felt like it was a total waste of money and time. Everything was jammed together in one space with no order at all. The "petting zoo" was okay. Just two play pens with miniature goats, funky ducks, chickens with dyed mohawks(!!!), one llama, rabbits, etc. With all of the space the Garden has, I have no idea why each table, vendor, attraction, etc. was stacked one upon each other. Ridiculous. Also, for an event this size, you think they'd put multiple trash bins around but nooooo....I found only 4 scattered throughout the event ground. Trash was spilling out of the bins. Garbage and filth everywhere. The best part of the event was the bee keeper demo. Very informative and interesting. The best part of the whole place is a little hidden gem. Upon entrance, if you take the trail to the left and go deeper into the pathways, you'll come across a stream with a waterfall that's a true bird oasis. There's a bench a couple of feet away and you can just sit and watch the many different varieties of birds take baths, forage for insects, etc. While I was there I saw Grackles, Woodpeckers, Goldfinches, etc. Great little area for birdwatching. So, when it comes down to it, I wouldn't come out of my way to come here. It's just not that special or well-kept. If you happen to be close by and want to walk through a glorified park, then it's worth it. read more

I came here on a field trip with 4th graders. I never knew Queens had a Botanical Garden and I was eager to see if it compared to the images I had seen of the Brooklyn one (of course I have never been inside that one but I've seen my fair share!). Maybe this place is nicer in the spring or summer months. In October?? Oh boy. Nothing but scantily leaved trees, earth worms, and bees.. everywhere. There weren't any flowers. Well a few (VERY FEW) and not nearly as many as you would expect when going to a garden. I searched long and hard too while keeping an eye on 28 munchkins. They were extra rowdy because the Garden truly wasn't all that interesting. As a heads up, by the little bridge there is no railing on one side and they steps lead right into the water. The kids leaning over the ground into the little pond drove me nuts. I was so nervous one would jump in or better yet slip. Be careful over there. I doubt the water is that deep but it's nothing something you need to get in to. I'm giving one star for the wonderful guide we had. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She explained things in depth and some terms went over the kids' heads but she really knew her stuff. I'm assuming October is just a bad month for this type of stuff. I'll check back in the spring and we can see about these other stars read more

I came here on the last full day of my July 2016 visit to New York and it was raining a lot in the early part of the day. Queens Botanical Garden is about 8 short blocks (approximately 15 minutes) from the Main Street/Flushing NYC Subway Station, served by the 7 Line. I'm sure if I didn't end up having to go on a cloudy and rainy day, everything about the gardens would have really stood out. I mean, everything from the flowers to the open meadows and tress as well as the wedding garden (which wasn't accessible at the time I went) were really appealing and nice to check out. Admission is only $6.00, which isn't bad at all. Hopefully when I'm in the area again down the road, I'll make another visit on a sunny day! read more

The Queens Botanical Gardens is pretty small compared to the other boroughs, but it's still a beautiful place to check out. They have a number of different themed gardens for you to walk through on a sunny day--they even have a bee garden and sell the harvested honey during the fall. I'm 30 years old. I was born in Brooklyn, but I spent most of the past 25 years of my life in Queens. I feel like Queens is the forgotten borough. Queens is the largest borough in total area and the second largest in population, as well as the most diverse county in the United States, yet most tourists ignore Queens. People may pass by Queens to get to Long Island or to access the airports, but how many people actually visit Queens? Every borough is famous for something. Manhattan has Times Square, Chinatown, the Met Museum, etc. Brooklyn has Coney Island and Junior's Restaurant. The Bronx has the greatest franchise in professional sports. Even Staten Island has the ferry. Queens has...the Mets. I heard that Queens Botanical Garden had a model train exhibit during the Memorial Day weekend. I came to the garden solely to check out the exhibit. I'm not into gardening, though I do like cherry blossoms. The New York Botanical Garden also has a model train exhibit, but it's during the Christmas holiday and it's A LOT more expensive than this one. I took the Q20 bus to the garden (the garden is about a 15 minute walk to the 7 train and LIRR). It was only $4 to enter. I wasn't that impressed with the garden. It seemed more like a large park than a botanical garden. It's smaller than its counterparts in Brooklyn and the Bronx (I guess the price is commensurate to the size of the respective gardens). Like many people said, parts of it were under construction. There was a section of the garden were they have weddings, but given my track record with women, I don't have to worry about that any time soon. The model train exhibit was towards the back of the garden. It wasn't quite as impressive as the one at the New York Botanical Garden, but it was pretty good. It was worth the money I paid. They also had a miniature train ride for kids, as well as a concession stand that sold burgers, chicken tenders, philly cheesesteaks, etc. I give the garden a 1 and the train exhibit a 4. I'll be generous and average it out to a 3. Unless you're planning a wedding or like model trains, there's no point in going all the way to Queens to visit the Queens Botanical Garden. You can basically see the same flowers for free at Riverside Park. read more

I give this garden a solid 3.5 because it's hard to get to and pretty small. But once you're here is very pretty. The main garden is like a french country side. I went last year in July and everything was in full bloom, but went again this year in late May and not much was blooming yet and nothing really to see. There's a pretty fountain at the main entrance, but every time I've been here there was a least 4 kids jumping all over it and couldn't get any good photos. read more

It can be packed at times especially when the weather is much warmer. My wife and I came here to explore the possibility having our wedding ceremony here. The rose garden that they had was very nice and I would accommodate approximately 100 people. I felt that for the price for renting this area was worth it. But my wife and I asked what if it rains? Will there be a big tent? Or would it be held indoors? I'm not sure if people ask this normally, but if you are looking for a outdoor ceremony or outdoor anything, that's a question you should always ask. The backup location in the event that it rained during our big day was a basement with windows close to the ceiling. Decorations for this backup area would our responsibility which I thought was fair, after all, this place is a garden, not a wedding decoration place. At the end, we choice not to use this place for our wedding ceremony because we just didn't like the basement as a backup. And lucky for us for not booking this place, it did rain in the morning of our wedding day and it extra windy. The service, patience of the staff, and the upkeep of the garden makes this place one of the best gardens to visit. read more
