I wish this place existed when I was getting married! The interior is absolutely beautiful. The ladies who work there are so sweet and patient. I am having a dohl (first birthday) in May & I am super excited. They literally do EVERYTHING for you. They set up a nice dohl table, and customize every detail and color according to how you tell them you'd like. I had a dilemma and I had to end up switching the day and the ladies were so nice about it and patient with me all the way. I am recommending this place to everyone. My friend is also having her sons birthday party a month after mine because I told her about my positive experience. Short Summary: These people rack up in fees as your event gets closer. Would not recommend it at all.   The venue was beautiful and it was how I imagined my wedding was going to be. But the manager ruined my wedding experience, I had to cancel my event less than a month away with them because they were trying to add so many fees and were forcing me to hire their staff when I specifically told her that I was going to bring my waitresses... she still wanted me to pay 15% in tips even though I told her I did not want her staff. The owner is very greedy and even though we both agreed on a price for flowers, centerpieces, and decorations she decided to change her mind last minute. The manager told me to bring her a picture of how I wanted my centerpieces to look and they said they were going to make them. Yet when I arrived to show her how I want my centerpieces she said it was going to be more money, so I decided to cancel the flowers with her. I asked her if I could bring my own and decorate the lamps myself and she said: "no those are our lamps" even though I was renting out the entire venue from her if you want to decorate it will extra $1k. She then went on to say that if my bartender wanted to use the table in the venue it was going to be an extra fee. The manager never disclosed any of the extra fees for the flowers, for bringing my own stuff, and trying to decorate the lamps or even the bartender table. She decided to rack up the prices last minute because I didn't want to use the expensive services she wanted to charge me, even though it's not what we agreed on. I had previously read a comment regarding this issue but decided to try it anyway, but it's all true. They raise your hopes up and deceive you about how much it will actually cost. As the days go on they begin to increase prices on the things they originally promised on. I had put down a $2k deposit because I was so I love with the venue but I had to loose it because of the "additional fees" she wanted to charge me. She did mention to me that she was going to give me a credit for it but I told her I was never going back there. I had such a terrible experience and it was all ruined due to her seeing that she can take advance of me and my situation. My wedding being a month away I had to give up my venue because of them deciding to add fees on top of fees without any previous information. If she would have disclosed the EXTRA fees at the beginning when I originally booked the place then it would have been a different case. They completely took advantage of me and my family. I was very disappointed in the way these people did things with the venue i booked. They decided to have a decoration for a wedding which was a day after my event, be hanged during the day i booked the venue. So during this birthday party, there was a wedding themed decor on the wall which threw me off. Then throughout the party, the workers would follow every single person in the room including the children & wipe down the floor as they blew bubbles. The party guests were extremely uncomfortable with the workers & how they would breathe down every ones neck. So my wedding came and went and my experience with The Reception House has been overall very positive. The days leading up the actual event was very chaotic and stressful and to be honest it wasn't very easy to reach a representative (I was out of town). We played phone tag almost every other day and we never received a table layout of the Garden Suite. I think there was some miscommunication of some of the details, and trust me, there were plenty of those for any wedding. However, in the end, the table arrangements worked out, I was able to communicate most of my ideas, and I always got a call back. I asked a LOT of questions and they have been patient and sweet enough to answer all of them. When someone was working with me, I always felt like priority even though there were probably other things and people waiting. Fast forward to the wedding. The day was a blur, but a lot of my friends said they loved how friendly the staff was. I worried people would be hungry between the hor dourves and the actual dinner, but the staff (especially the bartender, hahaha) kept the food and drinks coming. Many people told me how friendly and helpful the staff were that day. I really appreciated the staff keeping me informed of the important things, but left out the unnecessary information out (probably so I wouldn't freak out). I also lost a few items and they returned it to me by the end of the week. The best thing about this place is how flexible they are. My wedding started 30-45 min late (typical of most weddings) and they added that lost time at the end. Basically, the wedding was supposed to end at 11, but they extended it until past 11:30. I doubt most places would do this for you. Constructive criticism: 1. If you have more than 100 guests, have a sit-down instead of a buffet. The buffet line cut through the dance floor and so none of the guests were able to dance until everyone was seated. The Reception House should make this suggestion to clients. 2. I would not hire their baker. There were two bakers and I chose the new guy, who owned a bakery shop called Hot Breads. My review for this bakery is on their yelp page, but basically, I was disappointed the rolling fondant came out wrinkly and slanted. breakdown: menu: 4/5 I didn't really get to eat that day so I can't really comment. I liked the stuffed mushroom. I think some of the items I requested wasn't served that day. For instance, I requested potato skin, but got chicken strips (it's an upgrade in my opinion, so whatever) staff: 5/5 Super friendly. See above. I just had my wedding on December 7, 2019 and I am beyond happy with my experience at Reception House! I was looking for an intimate, cozy venue with a rustic interior in a convenient location for my friends and family who mostly reside in Queens - Reception House checked off all of those boxes. Throughout the process, I communicated with the managers, Kristy & Rebecca, via KakaoTalk and they responded to all my questions in a timely manner. I absolutely loved how they decorated the venue for the night of the wedding. Our photos were tastefully hung/placed all over the venue which gave the wedding the charming, DIY feel that I wanted. Kristy & Rebecca provided exceptional service on the night of the wedding. They helped me change into my paebaek outfit and led the paebaek ceremony at no extra cost. They also helped me change into my hanbok and came to the rescue when we forgot to bring the petticoat for the hanbok. The both of them had a nice, calming presence that helped alleviate my stress from the chaos. Most importantly, my mom was very pleased with the service she received from the staff - they were particularly attentive to my parent's needs and I was appreciative of that. Last but not least, my guests raved about the food that was served. It was buffet style and catered by San Soo Kap San (across the street from the venue). At the end of the night, Kristy & Rebecca allowed us to come in the next day to pick up anything that we left at the venue and even gave us a small gift and gift card! The entire team at the Reception House was fabulous! My sister was the Bride and I was her bridesmaid. The owner and staff, especially the catering manager, Shana were willing to help with anything we needed and they made sure everything went as smooth as possible on their wedding day. It was hard to believe that my sister and her fiance were able to get such a gorgeous, rustic, vintage place for such an affordable price! We all had such a blast. This is the worst place to have a wedding. I want to leave them no stars for their employees communication skills and the lack of care to the event as a whole and not just bits and pieces of the event. The only part i liked was the food period. They shouldnt advertise as a wedding venue. Here are some of the incidents that happened 1. we had about 100 guests and they did the cake for us but they didn't serve to all the guest and when my family member brought this to my attention that when she asked that not all the tables were served cake the employee had a nasty attitude and said" you need to wait" and came to me trying to act innocent so i just held it in until the wedding was over. My guess is the cake was way too small for 100 people i think it wouldve fed maybe 60 max. 2. The employees did not gather all the decoration that i had provides *guest books ,pictures, etc and had to do this myself 3. There wasnt enough alcohol, the employees said they ran out when there was plenty more in the fridge. 4. Brides side & grooms side guest tables was misinformed to me 5. Messed up table numbers 6. Puddle of water was spilled from the flowers near the head table and one of my guest was cleaning the water with napkins only then one of the employee saw that and started to clean..employees arnt attentive to these type of event. I dont usually write reviews and i am not a picky person and i sure didnt have any crazy impossible requests to the staff and at the end of the night when it came to pay the remaining balance i brought up the cake incident and the manager said that i shouldnt listen to 1 side of the story and judge the situation, mind you i had the same complaint from multiple guests after it was over. So my opinion is if all you care about is the food then you can have a wedding here but i would highly not recommend this place for a wedding. read more
