He was very directive about what was important to employ in terms of technique, things to look out for (like when retrieving your arrow or if you happen to drop one, and your quill could accidentally become a hazard), and where to keep focus. I think my target speaks volumes for how well they make sure you understand what you're doing. I only wish that I could have taken more pictures and video, but it wasn't clear whether or not we could, and I didn't want to introduce a potential hazard (to them or myself). Great experience. They were really patient and helped everyone learn the basics and even improve throughout the course of the 2 hours. After the instruction, they turned on the blacklights and we got competitive and played a few games. Overall, such a great experience; 10 out of 10 would recommend; 5 stars; no notes! If it's your first time, you get to do a super-fun introductory class (that's accessible to everyone of all ages and levels of athleticism - including "basically none") that teaches you the basics while also keeping it really entertaining with mini-competitions and such. Definitely a great group activity to try out with friends / family. After doing the intro lesson, you're free to sign up any time afterwards for your own private lane to practice in for 1-2 hours or so (bumping you up from a 5-yard distance from your target to a 10-yard one) - and the staff will keep checking in on you and giving you pointers and suggestions to improve your game. Speaking of which, they're all super friendly and knowledgeable - Nas, Ace, Simon and the rest, all great guys with lots of patience and sunny dispositions. It's roughly $35 for 1 hour of use of the space and to rent out a bow and some arrows (and the extra coaching is free) - a very reasonable deal in NYC. My wife and I have been coming back at least twice a month since the Winter and we've had a blast every visit. Super fun to watch yourself progress and get more and more accurate too. And as an added bonus, it's smack dab in the middle of Chinatown - tons of great spots to eat at around here, after an hour of archery. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting or living here.

I came here on a Saturday afternoon for a 90 minute class, actual shooting time is probably about only 10-15 min total as there are about 12-14 of us so need to share and rotate the targets. Plus there was a regular class right before us that they start only 30 min before us so that means more waiting in between the shooting. The instructors are very skilled however and knew what they were talking about and they take safety very seriously so I felt safe the whole time and didn't have any urges to mess around :-) Location is inside a church in the gymnasium area, if you get lost just ask the people around and they will guide you nicely to the archery area. Hidden Gems Archery...you have not failed this Yelper…read more I know 3 stars looks bad, but it's not. I just wanted to set the record straight because I have had business owners in the past message me all upset and whatnot. If you've never taken archery lessons before, swing through...this place was A-OK. I thought I was going to have to add the listing to Yelp, but someone did 9 hours prior...small world. And they also used a Groupon. I was originally going to go to the Staten Island based Groupon archery offering since it was 1/2 as much, but since I would have had to pay the toll to get to S.I, I figured it evened out. For 30 minutes, me and the one other guy taking the intro course learned about the methods and safety of archery. And then we put arrows into things for a little under an hour. We got about 4 rounds in I believe and were alternating on the 4 target course (narrow room on the second floor of some building) with a family of 4 who were obviously members and obviously practiced...they were on some Katniss and Legolas type ish. I feel confident picking up a bow and arrow now. Learned a lot from Q and Tyler. Q provided the archery lecture and it felt like a James Bond movie...you know when Q explains the gadgets to Bond. Except our Q was a woman. With a 99.9% safety rating. Ask her where that .1% went. I went to the 12 PM lesson on a weekday and I think the preceding lessons were packed or so I overheard. So I'm glad I chose the first lesson. It's why I chose the first lesson. Next up, fencing! And then ninjitsu.

We were…read morea large group (at least 20), and the instructors did a nice job staggering our group with safety instructions and prep while a set of tots were taking aim at the targets. Overall, it was a cool experience. We were buddied up and I paired with my friend, who immediately pigeonholed himself as troublemaker/class clown. He got some special attention from the staff and I received a couple of demerits for not following instructions (I'm oblivious, not insubordinate). Yes, friends, I had two of my arrows removed from my quiver at one point, but I couldn't really blame them as I had ample warning. Once I earned my way back into good standing, the arrows were returned. Shooting was fun and pretty straightforward after a few tries. My only criticism is that they should spend a little less time on the prep and let us loose sooner with the bows (time flies pretty quickly when you're shooting arrows). But I get why they over-prepare with the safety lessons.

I said ok, but will there be a penalty if I show up late cause there's a chance I may be 10-15 mins late. He responded verbatim "well do you want the 5 o'clock or not?" At that point I should have called it off but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. We get there and it's a narrow stairway that leads down to a creepy little basement. As soon as we walked in the guy behind the desk gave off a big sigh. Didn't say a word just poked at his iPad while we waited awkwardly in silence for 2-3 mins. So I decided to leave, I said I'm sorry but I changed my mind, we gonna head out. He raised his voice and screamed "what do you mean you changed your mind?" I told him straight up you're hella rude, you were rude on the phone and you rude now. You didn't even greet us when we walked in. I get a text later saying I'm ban from future events they host. Like I would even go lol As you can see from his reply he has no remorse for the way he treats his customers. I'm sorry I wasted your time you could have been helping all your total of 0 customers in the place.

I came to New York Indoor Sports Club when my boyfriend challenged me to a match of ping pong. Even…read morethough he had competed in the Junior Olympics when he was younger, I decided anyway to come here and try out my ability. We both live in Flushing near Main St., so NYISC was a perfect place for us to travel to. The club inside was spacious and clean. Some of the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave us a thorough and in-depth description of all the membership services and fees for ping pong games/coaching. The actual tables are professional-grade, and there are actually plenty of them spread throughout an enormous indoor facility. I liked the feel of the high ceilings while I played (or at least ATTEMPTED to play haha). Even though this place was popular on a weeknight around 7-8pm, the size of the facility didn't make me feel cramped. Checking out the rest of NYISC, I saw an indoor soccer field - which is a rare sight in a place such as Flushing. I don't play soccer, but I would recommend this space for soccer teams and friends looking to play a match or serious game. My boyfriend and I also wandered to the 'Pro Shop' in the sports club. They sold all different professional ping pong products from brands such as Butterfly (famous ping pong product manufacturer). We didn't purchase anything, but I did sign up for private lessons with one of the renowned & accomplished coaches. The pricing was for a set of 10 lessons and were more than affordable. The coaches were all world ranked, and have competed in Olympics, etc. Maybe one day I'll be able to at least keep up in a game with my boyfriend, lol. LAST THING: People here are very open and friendly. If you come on a weeknight like us or a weekend, there will always be staff to help you and fellow players/students to meet/interact with :) One person saw my extreme lack of ping-pong skills and kindly helped me out a bit the first time I came to NYISC -___- lols I will definitely be returning
