One of the coolest experiences we've had in sports and just general fun in Manhattan, been coming here for months now and hope to continue for a good long while. Awesome staff, fun activity, great spot. If it's your first time, you get to do a super-fun introductory class (that's accessible to everyone of all ages and levels of athleticism - including "basically none") that teaches you the basics while also keeping it really entertaining with mini-competitions and such. Definitely a great group activity to try out with friends / family. After doing the intro lesson, you're free to sign up any time afterwards for your own private lane to practice in for 1-2 hours or so (bumping you up from a 5-yard distance from your target to a 10-yard one) - and the staff will keep checking in on you and giving you pointers and suggestions to improve your game. Speaking of which, they're all super friendly and knowledgeable - Nas, Ace, Simon and the rest, all great guys with lots of patience and sunny dispositions. It's roughly $35 for 1 hour of use of the space and to rent out a bow and some arrows (and the extra coaching is free) - a very reasonable deal in NYC. My wife and I have been coming back at least twice a month since the Winter and we've had a blast every visit. Super fun to watch yourself progress and get more and more accurate too. And as an added bonus, it's smack dab in the middle of Chinatown - tons of great spots to eat at around here, after an hour of archery. My partner and I did the introductory archery class and we had suchhh an amazing experience! The class is an hour long and you can choose from two different bows to practice with. After you complete the introductory course, you're able to rent lanes and equipment for a year after without having to retake the intro class. Had a wonderful experience here with Ace as our instructor. I've taken a handful of beginner archery lessons in the past and a semester in college years ago, but it doesn't hold a candle to how these folks teach beginners. Their gear is well maintained and Ace took the time to adjust the sights on the recurve I was using for the class. They give you shooting tips and demonstrate and correct common beginner mistakes. Plenty of time dedicated to shooting too! I usually can't maintain a good grouping, but with his guidance, I hit the best grouping I've had pretty consistently. Great place to get some basic archery practice. I took a mini course on vacation last yr and I felt the urge to try it again. This space is smaller than their Brooklyn location. Sign up was easy and the studio isn't hard to find. We had about 10 people in my group. Our instructor was engaging and got us shooting without injuries. Because it's a group class, it's not the place to get detailed 1-1 guidance but it's fun to get a feel of the sport itself. I had a great time at Gotham Archery! My partner and I signed up for their introductory class. Neither of us had done much archery (if any) before. The instructor gave us a brief introduction to the types of bows and the uses for them. They also gave really good one on one feedback for a class. The instructor checked everyone's form individually and then would make edits throughout the practice. She even looked to see that my wrist was slightly moving while I shot which was causing my arrows to angle. The class also had some games which was fun! As a first time archer, our instructor reviewed the basics and safety measures with us before allowing us to shoot on our own. Our targets were only 5 meters away but even then it was hard for me to get my arrows to hit the target (I'm no Katniss). Since the class was relatively small, the instructor was able to help me correct my form often and by the end of the class, I almost got the hang of it. I like that the class wasn't just shooting arrows at our targets for the entire time. We were given different challenges such as targeting certain circles in order to fight the "zombies" and aiming for the corners of the target paper. To finish off the class, there was a little friendly competition where we had to shoot colored balloons in a certain order. May the odds forever be in your favor. The winner even got a prize! There's definitely nothing like the thrill (and feeling of accomplishment?) of your arrows hitting the target. Since we've completed the introductory course, we were told that lane rentals are $16/hour and equipment rental is $15 for the whole day. If I was closer, this would definitely be a fun hobby to pick up. read more

I live in the neighborhood and have passed by dozens of times. Told myself to check it out every single time but never did. A year later and thanks to the day off from work, decided to finally check it out with my wife. As a first timer, you need to sign up for the introductory class. For $40, you get the class for an hour plus rental equipment. Our instructor, Etienne, was hilarious and informative. He taught us in a way that it was fun and useful. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him. If fact, I enjoyed it so much that I booked a 2 hour lane the next day. In hindsight, don't book 2 hours on your second go at archery. It's a bit aggressive and I'm pretty exhausted. The rest of the staff is super friendly as well. I received some great pointers from Tyler that really improved my form. I love that we have something like this in downtown Manhattan. I'm even considering making a trip to the pro shop in Brooklyn after a few more practice rounds. read more

I've been here in two separate occasions for the introductory class and I have had an amazing and fun time each instance. The instructors are very thorough and give great tips to help you shoot. Despite me missing the bullseye many time, I still had a good time and the sport is very relaxing. Went here for some fun team building and offsite activity for our team. Most of us have never done archery before but all our instructors here were super fun and engaging! We had a big group (about 20-25 I think) and everyone enjoyed it. The instructors did a good job explaining the rules and how to use the 2 types of bows. We did a couple of practice sessions where we got 4 arrows/person that we can use in each round. After that, more than half way thru our 2-hr session we went onto game mode. They had us split into 2 groups and that really made everything competitive which I love! I think I was even better with the pressure of the game than when I was just practicing. After our sesh, they even gave us free tote bags. Will definitely come back to this place again. Their rates seem reasonable too! read more

I attended the Manhattan location yesterday and brought 11 people with me. We all agreed, after the event, that Simon (the instructor) spoke entirely to fast and it was a challenge to catch everything he was saying especially since we attended the first time training class. In the middle of his training session, I asked about a term he already covered and he called me out in front of everyone. I was already a bit nervous because it was a bit challenging trying to catch everything he was saying. So much for asking questions! There were two gentlemen assisting us with form. One was extremely patient with positive energy. The other... not so much. This experience could have been a lot more pleasant if some different people were working there. If I do this again, it wont be at this location/organization. P.S. The gentleman at the front desk was super nice and patient. Situated a short walk away from the train station is Gotham Archery. Though their Manhattan location isn't as big as their Brooklyn location, it's still a great place to relieve some stress. First timers will have to take an intro course where they teach you the proper way to handle and hold a bow as well as the proper form and stance you should be in. The intro class is so much fun you'll definitely want to come back for more! Their staff members are all very helpful and make the experience that much better. I'm really glad I found this gem in Manhattan! My first archery class was in Queens about 4 years ago, but Gotham Archery is much more closer to where I live. You do an intro class, and after the class you're eligible to come back and rent lanes. The staff was highly professional and knowledgeable about archery, not to mention fun! Our instructor was really awesome, and she helped me a lot with my form even down to my body posture. I came in the class shooting pretty well, but by the end of the class I was VERY comfortable and able to shoot some bullseyes! Gotham Archery is so much fun! I went to the Manhattan location today for the first time and Cliffton was a really patient, knowledgeable instructor. The beginner group wasn't too big where you might lost and he was able to get around to everyone during the class so it really felt like money worth spent. The other instructor, Kelson, would also help with adjustments and was extremely helpful. The location was also cool because it sells equipment so if you catch the archery bug, they have everything there and can make sure you're getting the right items for your specific level. I would definitely recommend coming here at least once with a group of friends, family or a date (I saw a mix of all of that just in this one small class alone!) Chinatown needs an archery place and here is Gotham Archery! Thanks for choosing this neighborhood, Gotham! Since it was my first time here, even though I had archery lessons before, we must take the Intro Class; $40 if you purchase online, and $45 if you purchase in person. The class was informative and very entertaining. There were 7 of us in one class and we all chose to use the hunter's bow. To be honest, I did a lot better at Queens Archery when it was my first time shooting ever and I had a one-on-one instructor using a compound. But I know our instructor did his best going around correcting each one of us. I couldn't get a bullseye in the class; my arrows were shooting everywhere on the target, my aim was not consistent at all. However, my favorite part of the intro class was at the end where we split into teams and compete against the people we came with. That was so much FUN! There were colored balloons on the wall and the instructor picks a color and we have to aim and shoot that color. There was one guy that was really good; he kicked everyone's ass on my team, then I went against him and I won! Someone (I believe he works there) recorded the whole thing, they don't have to upload it onto the internet but I'd like to watch it. Since we rented the equipments already, after the class we're allowed to rent a lane for $10 per person for 30 mins and shoot. We did that and practice some more. I got a couple of bullseye shooting from 10 yards (I think). Overall, I had a good time and good practice. I'm really interested in their knife throwing class, must check it out next time! read more
